From whatever I have seen so far I feel that it is Samrat who is with the problem not Maithili. If it was her she would sit and curse herself for not being able to bear children after every confrontation with Mohini. But instead she tries to reassure Samrat and find another feasible solution to their problem like adoption. Women like her would be grief stricken if their husband doesn't get their heir because of them but she feels none of these. She is just generally sad that she doesn't have a child to call her own.
