Some might call it Rudra's luck, Bapu-sa calls it divine intervention but Paro calls it a miracle - Nanidini Jiji showed up the next day just before Rudra was to meet with his senior officers.
From what she heard, Nandini Jiji was picked up by a border patrol officer who found her aimlessly running through the dessert in ragged, dirty clothes and almost hysterical from thirst and hunger. She was crying, "Paro, Paro..save my Paro." The officer immediately called into HQ and was ordered to bring her in as soon as possible.
During interrogation Nandini Jiji explained that she had escaped from her captors a few days ago but had to lay low for some days before running for almost 2 days, non-stop, to reach the border. She explained, to the best of her ability, the story of her misfortune.
Nandini was taken across the border and then sold off to a madame who regularly prostituted her for money. She recently heard one of her frequent 'visitors' telling the madame that a new 'baraat' was to go across the border soon and bring back a beautiful bride named Paro from Birpur. Nandini realized it was her cousin and didn't want Paro to fall in the same trap as she did so risking her own life she escaped the first chance she got. She had not known if the wedding had already taken place but ran with the hope that she could still save her cousin.
Once Nandini's confession was recorded and the official written confession signed, she was quickly loaded in an armored BSD van. Armed with an arrest warrant, the BSD officers then marched to Birpur.
Unfortunately, the news of the raid reached the haveli before they did and Tejawat, along with his wife and few close men, managed to flee. BSD was able to apprehend some of the other men involved in the smuggling ring and got the necessary details to make an official case against the Thakur and his cohorts. A warrant for Tejawat's arrest was issued leaving the whole village of Birpur in a turmoil. Birpur believed for years that BSD was an evil entity and was enraged after they arrived to the village to arrest their beloved Thakur. A riot almost broke loose until, upon Rudra's instruction, Nandini was brought forward. The silence that unfolded after Nandini's confession was a direct contrast to the anger that prevailed before her arrival. Every single villager left with their heads bowed in disbelief and awe. Only Nandini's mother was left behind.
BSD decided to bring Nandini and her mother back with them. Nandini was now their star witness and with her identity known to the masses it was possible that any of Tejawat's mole could try to kill her. So, for the very same reason that Rudra brought Paro to his haveli, he brought Nandini Jiji and Mami-sa to the haveli as well.
Paro remembers sulking in their room when she heard commotion outside. When she opened the door and saw Mami-sa and Jiji, she was ecstatic. Kaki-sa was obviously upset and started her barrage or profanities. Rudra shut her up as usual and walked angrily to their bedroom. Maithili Jiji opened a guest room for Mami-sa and Nandini Jiji and over the next few hours the three women caught up with their lives. Tears were shed and hugs were exchanged as each shared their own sad stories.
That night Paro came back to the room with a new found respect for Rudra and that small sense of guilt, for not believing in Rudra all this time, that ate her up before now took a larger persona. She realized how brainwashed she was and how blindly she believed Thakur's lies and how based on those beliefs, almost destroyed Rudra's life. But how could she not believe what she saw with her own eyes - Rudra shooting her husba...- no Varun wasn't her husband because the pandit who did the marriage was a fake too. She was never married, or widowed. Paro felt overwhelmed with all the mixed emotions and collapsed on the floor crying. She knew she woke up Rudra but instead of walking up to her, he grabbed a pillow and blanket and left the room.
For the next 7 days Rudra never spoke a word to Paro. After the fisrt three days of futile tries Paro gave up too. She brought him his morning and evening tea and quietly served him food at the dinner table. The obvious tension between them was so evident and Kaki-sa taunted her all the time. Unfortunately, those taunts started after Rudra left for work. Mami-sa was worried seeing this sort of behavior so Paro was forced to explain to Mami and Jiji the real reasons behind this marriage. All there woman were equally lost in the situation.
Suddenly one day Rudra returned from work and told Nandini Jiji that he would take her to the city since the case against the smuggling ring was officially being started and her presence was required. Mami-sa accompanied Jiji. Paro offered to pack the bag for Rudra who gave her a cold shoulder.
Paro was left alone in the haveli as she bid farewell to the only three people in the world that she was related to - her aunt, her cousin and her husband.
