Ritu feels terrible for her friend

Khanak wipes her tears fiercely "I am not!" " I am coming to terms with things in my life" "One thing's for sure, I should have stayed a widow!" Her nose is congested, and her throat's choked up with emotion. "I should have resisted his temptation" "He was so darned irresistible, my brain warned me, but like a fool I followed him"

Ritu touches her shoulder in an attempt to calm her down, her friend brushes off that hand and steps away " Here I am a year and 8 months after the first meeting, married and separated, a feat that's impossible to match!!" (bitter)

Ritu: Tum dono baat to karo.

Khanak: Kis baare mein? Koi baat nahi hai karne ko

Ritu: Are you still attracted to him?

Khanak shuts her eyes savoring the 20 minutes by the door in Dadi's room, her face floods with warm color, how eagerly she had responded everytime he had kissed her, how she had allowed him to almost completely undress her……..while he stood there fully clothed!!! Tells her how desperate he must think she must be

Ritu is unable to see the color but notices the way her friend grips the rail to steady herself

Khanak: Its just a ploy (his attempts to seduce me)

Ritu: What? (confused)

Khanak: Nevermind…..

Ritu: Bai and Ada always complain you don't talk much, ab dekh kya hua

Khanak: I talk enough. I am don't talking for now, chal andar chalte hain (turns around)

Ritu stares at her friend, she is totally lost for solutions, wonders if she should talk with Shaan, or let it go, or let the two sort it out by themselves……..

Khanak: Are you taking me home or not?

Ritu: I will but ek shart hai

Khanak: Kya? (suspicious)

Ritu: kal subah hum dono Mom Dad ke ghar Def Col ja rahe hain from there we are going to go "see" a girl for Rajju at Meerut, you will have to go

Khanak is shocked at the new development

Khanak: meerut?

Ritu: Ya she works in Bangalore, is here on vacation, so we are doing a formal ladki dekho thingie, brunch and all (giggly)

Khanak is crushed

Ritu: Chal na maza aayega, dono poore raaste Rajat ko tang karenge

Khanak smiles

Ritu: Please?

Khanak: Sounds exciting but nahi…. (softly) I will go home

Ritu is shocked her friend will go home at midnite.

VK is not the safest during the day, is afraid how it will be after midnite, she knows her friend is a mouse, afraid of most things, the dark, imaginary intruders, being home alone at nite.

Her living by herself in VK is a mystery to her, wonders if she ever truly sleeps at nite

Ritu: Meri baat sun, go home with me, well drop you off in the morning?

Khanak: Nahi, I will just go home now, don't worry (brave)

Ritu feels like having let her down

They go inside, the men and Dadi are all in the living room, her husband does not look at her, busy chewing gum and texting………but everyone else does

Pradyun: What do you girls talk about? (awe)

Khanak: Khoofiya baaten

Prad tries to repeat verbatim

Khanak laughs "Not kufiya, Khoo-fiya"

Prad: TEACH ME! (shouts)

Dadi: Get in line! Sunil's her student, shes not done yet, husband's family first (playful)

Sends a shot of color to Khanak's face

Her husband looks up at her now

Holds her gaze, challenges her to declare in front of everyone that she is "Mistry" now

She sits near Dadi, Dadi takes her hand and holds it.

Prad: Why cant she teach me now? Shes in Delhi? (separated?)

Dadi: Shes here for work (don't get any ideas you fool)

Ritu: Dadi aap bhi chaliye Meerut

Dadi: I would if Mrs Suneja's daughter werent getting engaged (happy)

Prad: S----! I have a study group at 7! I hate early morning school work (pissed)

Shaan: You always have the option of quitting and returning to London (bland, texting on his phone)

Prad getting up" I cant do that I love Delhi too much! The food is to die for man!"

Dadi is up, gives him a hug, he pauses by Ritu "Your turn!" (winks)

Ritu: My husband says I cant hug other men (punches Prad)

Pradyun walks over to Khanak "How about you?" "I am not leaving until a woman hugs me"

Kritik and Ritu talk about the logistics of the meerut trip……

Dadi: Here is another one! (winksand goes to hug him)

Prad: Not YOU Dadi! (whines)

Shaan looks up at Pradyun " You should go down there might be a few that might be willing (on the street), you don't even have to beg" (mocking)

Prad: Khanak (plea) so when are you visiting Kamla Nagar Market?

Khanak: Main call karoon?

Prad:Please get back on FB, please please! (folds his hands and begs)

Her husband, looks at the duo

Khanak: I am really busy at work, at home I am too tired…….

Prad:I am going to keep calling you

Khanak smiles gets up " I will try and answer, if I have my phone with me" waves her hands to show, her phone is never with her unlike some people…….

Prad: you break my heart! (places a hand on his heart)

Khanak shakes her head and walks towards Dadi's room just as Ritu and Kritik get up to leave

Khanak politely hugs Prad to say good bye

He is thrilled " NOW I am ready to go"

Dadi: Take the food you dummy" (hands him the huge bags with his fave leftovers"

Prad: Ooops!

Prad: Bye Shaan!!

Shaan grunts

Ritu: Dadi, hamey chalna chahiye!

Shaan wonders if his wife is leaving with them, he tears up the gum in a fit of anger, his jaw hurts, as he bends down to texts he notices the pink gloss on the circular white UMASS lettering…… it angers him further.

Khanak seems to be in the rest room

Ritu and Kritik get to the door, Shaan and dadi are standing there as well

Ritu: Dadi how about Monday nite at my place?

Dadi hugs her "I will call you", the help brings out clothes/gift bags and a tray with some gift on it

Ritu is jumping up and down with joy, Khanak appears and smiles, her husband involuntarily makes room for her on his side so she can see her friend, Khanak involuntairily stands near him as if they are together and are seeing off guests for the nite………. Shaan's hands are gripping the table at the back, the one he is leaning on, her pallu teases the back of his hand……… their arms are grazing each other, until she feels his fine hair on her bare arm, and puts a few inches in between….. flushing a little, but her chiffon continues to flirt with his fingers……..

Ritu: mere liye? Dadi?

Dadi: Dono ke liye! (rolls her eyes)

Kritik touches dadi's feet, Ritu is busy looking into the bags she doesn't

Kritik reaches to shake Shaan's hand, Shaan takes her pallu with him, until they both realize, and Khanak yanks it back…….. they hug and shake hands and the pallu begins to flirt again.

Ritu looks at the box on the tray, it's a gold sindoor container, she loves it but not as much as the clothes "Dadi main to aapki laadli grand daughter in law ki tarah nahi hoon I don't wear sindoor much" (giggles) "You should give this to her"

Dadi: I have one for her also😳😳

Just as the couple leaning on the table decide to find each other's eyes in shock
