I understand what you're saying Arti, but those people should also understand that in India, Valmiki Ramayana and Ramcharitmanas are the most prominent sources where Shri Ram is most definitely revered as God, right? I can respect others' opinions if they're respectful in what they say, and understand that their sources are not the ultimate sources. In fact, Ramayana stems from Valmiki Ramayana because he was the first saint to have written down the epic, so they can at least respect the fact that others revere Lord Ram as God and don't take him to be just a human.😳 Otherwise I have no problem accepting others' opinions because I've have good discussions before with people who were genuinely curious about Shri Ram's leelas.
Anyway, this topic was about one's favorite character. Choosing a favorite doesn't entitle one to criticize another so even on the basis of this topic, I request people to please choose your favorites without pointing fingers at other characters and calling them weak.

i m sorry janaki i still dont agree as i dont see ramayan or ramcharit manas as be all and end of all... for me my journey starts with ramayan and ramcharitmanas and still i m reading other literature to accept the principal of ramyana whole heartedly ...wen i first time read it and like other ppl even i considered lord rama as weak husband infact i personally thought valmiki to be little unfair to their female character if i go by ramyaana or ramcharitmanas i would never agree with the views of valmiki wht was the fault of devi ahilya y did she suffered just coz indra had decieved her did she deserved the treatment she underwent what was the fault of poor lady and then the banishment of sitaji wasnt justified in the ramayana too it was that after reading it i researched in different version of ramayan and came to my own conclusion and now my respect for this ramayana is increased ...AS RAM HAS EXPALINED IN SHREE RAM GEETA the purpose of the knowledge isnt to limit or narrow ur views but open to all the views and thoughts present around u... only then the purpose of ramyan is served
lakshmana was great warrior and was knowledgeful in all respect still rama send lakshman to attain knowledge from ravana... as he considered his knowledge supreme too... knowledge cant be narrowed Rama cant be restricted...i respect other opinion too

I respect others' opinions if they're put in a dignified manner, Arti. That's all I'm saying. Whether one considers Ram weak or not is beside the point. Everyone should understand that there is more than one source out there and while one may portray Ram as weak, another will portray him as the ultimate Godhead.
As for me, I don't think of Ramayan as just a story. To me, it is the path to spiritual enlightenment. I consider the characters as God and do not let my emotions run wild when I read the stories of Ahalya or Agnipariksha. Instead of analyzing these scenes as stories, I analyze them as having a purpose in God's plan for humankind. Even in Ahalya's story...you are right that she did no wrong, but if she was never cursed by Gautam rishi, would she have had the good fortune to be liberated and blessed by Shri Ram? Because of that she merged with the paramatma, so every event in Ramayan, good or bad, has a purpose to me and I do not bash God for it.
Reading the story through human lenses will not help me attain spiritual enlightenment.

is that the correct way to get liberated by bearing such blemish in thy name...how deeply would it hurt the self respect of the woman...nope i disagree completely...😕

and all i will say i still want other ppl to present their view and other version are holy and ascetic in itself...and believe me ppl get enlightened even though they havent read ramcharitmanas or valmiki in their entire life the spiritual enlightment comes by self awareness knowledge and positivity and respect . Life is a mixed blessing, so is ramayana😳

I'm not saying VR and RCM give one enlightenment, but the story of Ramayana in general. If one views the characters as God and completely gives up all negative feelings that are a part of life, then they will get spiritual enlightenment. It doesn't matter what scripture they follow or what they believe, but the end result should be complete surrender to God, and that cannot happen if we believe that God did something wrong in his avatar. This is said in the Bhagawad Gita too. Lord Krishna tells people to completely surrender to him (whether it be as Krishna or Rama or Vishnu) and get rid of all doubts in their heart, and they will merge with him.
Anyway, that Ahalya example is just how I personally analyze the Ramayana. I analyze it spiritually, not humanly, but if I had to suffer like Devi Ahalya and bear allegations against my name to have Shri Ram's holy feet touch me, I would totally accept it without complaint.😳 My pride and ego would never come in the way of my devotion to God. That's just me.

Ms Raghunath, I will like to object strongly on your opinion about my views on the favourite character of this epic, As pointed out by various members, this is a public forum and I am merely expressing my opinion, In any free country this is granted as your birth right, No self-respecting person will keep quiet, if their opinion or expression are being condemned as "Sinful act" Please refrain from using such strong statements and learn to co-exist with varied opinions...

Living in a free country does not necessitate speaking what you want without any consideration for others' sentiments. If you want your opinion to be respected you should also respect the fact that others here revere your "weak" character as God. Do not use freedom of speech as an excuse to criticize a religious scripture, because that is against the rules of this forum and can be reported.
Anyway, I'm done with this topic. Despite being a Ramayan forum I am disappointed with it for such high tolerance in criticism for scriptures.

ok so i guess urs fav is sita too

k and little piece of clarification for lord rama many of us consider him as unfair husband pricesly a weak husband well lord rama wasnt a weak husband he wasnt the one who send Sitaji to exile but it was his ppl who wanted to banish sitaji'''... acutally ramayan and uttar kand is not about the banishment of sitaji but about the sufferrings and hardship that ram and sita ji went to attain that perfect ramrajya"...Lord rama was a king and as a king he was bound to fullfill...the wishes of the ppl... ramrajya was truly the democractic kingdom that is of the ppl for the ppl and by the ppl and the king was not the god but the servant of his ppl his work was to establish peace and harmony and resepect everywhere...look at the irony of the ppl of tretra yug... god descended down in the earth in form of ram and sita ppl instead of worshipping and following their principles ppl started blemishing sitaji as she was abducted...instead of considering her as goddess they badmouthed her... ppl always get what they deserve. ...they wished to send sita to exile and rama being a king being a father of nation was bound with karma he had to respect their wishes he sent sitaji to exile... it was his way of telling how the wrong deed can lead to the drastic consequences...ppl failed to recognize the glory of sitaji and the consequences were dreadful...their king suffered in pain and agony and their mother like queen had to leave the earth...and it finally lead to the end of ram rajya which is considered as heaven in earth...the god and the goddess asecended back to the heaven...still ppl carve for that ram rajya... for ram... for sita but is it possible to attain ????no coz ppl always get what they deserve ??? in turth ppl still dont deserve lord rama and goddess sita ...lord rama had said utnil the glory of the woman will not be recognized until there will be agni pareeksha and disrespect for the woman there can be no ram rajya...

there is interesting research about Lord rama's agni pareeksha..wen ram ji took sita ma's agni pareeksha hanuman and lakshman particularly showed their discontent...wen ramji inquired about it lakshmanji said "y did u do so u r exemplary man ur deeds are followed if u will take the agni pareeksha of the woman wont every one follow the same principle wont it lead to chaos and distrust?...Lord rama said "i took agni pareeksha not to support this cruel ritual but to abolish this ritual forever...how u will get to know later"

later on wen ppl demanded sita to send to exile there was the council of minister vs the council of ppl to discuss on this issue

council of ppl strongly supported that queen sita went with ravana on her own consent while council of minister said no she was abducted

council of ppl demanded the testimony had anyone seen ravana abducting sitaji

lakshmana came forward and said only jatayu had seen it but he is dead

council of ppl rejected it and said he is dead we want a living proof they asked lakshmana "y did u leave sitaji alone don't u know it was forest and the demons reside there y didn't u do anything before leaving sitaji alone"

lakshmana said" I drew the line which is impossible for any god demigod animal demon any living nonliving creature to trespass"

council of ppl said that means sitaji crossed that line on her own will

council of minister pleaded that she did it becoz she don't want to offend the holy ascetic''

to which the council of ppl replied "what kind of ascetic was he'who came in the absence of men and knowing that a line was drawn to protect her y did he insisted to cross the line no noble sage does that that's adharma y did sita not once doubted the authencity of that sage'.we don't consider such person as astetic...

The only other credible evidence that needed to be looked at was Agni Pariksha. While Sita had testified that to prove her loyalty and chastity she had successfully undertaken Agni Pariksha test, peoples representative argued that this age old ritual did not in any way certify the loyalty or chastity of any woman. It was true that it required some special skills but those skills in no way certified the loyalty or chastity of a female. They requested that this test for such purpose be abandoned and hence forth decision on such matters may be taken on the bases of physical evidence.

The Royal representative informed that Agni Pariksha was the noblest of the Maryada (best tradition) prevailing at that time and only very chaste, pious and pure person could have passed this test. What more, they argued, it had religious sanctity and while other evidence might lack corroborative witnesses, Agni Pariksha was performed by Sita in front of entire army. Agni Pariksha, they felt can neither be ignored or rejected by the King.

After listening to arguments of both sides, King Ram REJECTED the results of Agni Pariksha He further said that it is true that, as a King, it is difficult to reject the result of Agni Pariksha, because it has religious sanctity, but he would like to go with People's representative in as much that although Agni Pariksha required special skills, but those skills in no way certify the loyalty or chastity of the lady. He DISOWNED SITA AND TOLD HER TO GO WHERE EVER SHE DESIRED TO GO.

He also declared that hence forth Agni Pariksha will not be used for certifying or testifying the loyalty or chastity of a female.Use of Agni Pariksha will be deemed to be an act of ADHARM and NOT an act of dharm, he declared''.he further added the lakshmana rekha (which is known maryaada of a woman ) shouldn't be ignored and wen the woman transgress that she herself becomes responsible of her own destiny so she should avoid crossing certain rules and regulations of the society thirdly any person who compels a woman to go against the wishes of her parents and in laws (one who persuade to transgress the lakshman rekha) will not be consider ascetic however noble he is hence woman are under no compulsion to serve tht person

We the mortals know that Shri Ram was an incarnation of Vishnu and Sita that of Goddess Lakshmi. They performed this Leela so that humanity may never have to suffer such dastardly acts in future.

IT IS ALSO ABSOLUTELY CLEAR THAT SHRI RAM COULD NOT HAVE DISOWNED SITA WITHOUT REJECTING AGNI PARIKSHA.

After becoming Chakravarti Samraat, Shri Ram ordained that humanity, present and future, would never ask any female to undergo this test. Perhaps this was the first Dharm of the much cherished RAMRAJYA. What were the other Dharm, we would like to know.

Goddess Sita also set the example by returning to the earth that the self respect of the woman is greater than the worthy husband like Lord rama'.

I hope it helped😳

thanks a lot for sharing ...before reading it even i was confused y lord rama send sita to exile it wasnt fair but after reading it ...i can understand the plight of lord rama..it wasnt easy for him to abondon sita but as u said he was bound by karma...thats y he is called maryada purshottam ram...
