1. It seems that you agree that both writers and readers have their prerogatives to write/ read, and no expectations/ demands on either side

2. It also seems you agree that writers write because of their love for writing and nothing else

Maintaining the above, your additional expectations that if readers are reading such fictions , they should also provide "meaningful" comments - the expectation seems a little counter-intuitive in light of the above two statements. (Keep me honest if I am off the mark here)

So net net I am a little confused about what's the concern, what's the ask and why the ask?

That is an interesting point.
I do agree that writers write for the love of it... but if no one gave me a feedback on my writing, I would stop writing. If I had not been encouraged with comments, I would have stopped writing long back and would have stayed just a reader. It is not about receiving praise, it is just the writer's right to know if the writing is up to the mark of his/ her own expectations and that of the readers. And this is not a right that we demand, but request. That is my personal opinion.😳 Sometimes the frustration would come out in harsh words, I guess- and I totally understand as a writer.😊

Hi Mary
I really don't mean to offend yourself or any writers on this or any other forums, But i don't think you can demand for people to always comment or what type of comments people should be writing, this should be a natural relationship between author and reader which cannot be forced, not every author gets feedback from all their readers even if they pay for the book/stories.
not everyone is comfortable giving their opinons or critiques of the story, some people might not want to offend, some people might just be inarticulate or shy and for some English might be a struggle.
I try to comment as much as posible but sometimes i will just press like and leave commentless...I personally feel this is OK and don't want to feel pressurised that I should leave a comment.
I really hope you don't mind me carrying on reading you stories 😊

HIGH FIVE!

I absolutely LOVE you for writing this! As a reader I enjoy all the stories on soaps and I think it's only fair to comment on the writers efforts. It always pains me to see shitty one worded comments (usually "continue"), so I can imagine how frustrating it is for the authors themselves.

I'm actually a new writer on the block, I've started A SaHil SS - Kismat (shameless self promotion I know, do forgive me) so I truly sympathise with your arguments.

Hopefully this will be a turning point for silent readers everywhere. Of course we'll only know that if they comment - you have to love the irony of that. You should consider changing this to 'A Vindication on the Rights of Writers' by Mary Barton 🤣

You might just be the leader for change dude.

I can only wish that I could high five your awesomeness.

~ Tannu

P.S. I ADORE YOUR SS: The Nawab's Son. My god I miss IPKKND.

Yes, they both have points, but the thing is that writers write as a courtesy to share something fun and readers should comment as a courtesy to thank. You haven't seen it from the writer's end I am assuming, we get innundated with demands to take personal time to write to people, they buddy us while silent and that takes time out of our schedule. Why do we get so many demands to personally beg people to read our piece? If they liked it so much, they should either comment or use the my post section to follow without demands that we personally inform them AFTER writing the whole piece because they are somehow doing us a favor by reading our work and never saying a word about it.

We just want to write our stuff and get a little feedback, if that's too much, that's fine. We will still write as we like it for the people who write to us. Let the silent stay silent and not pester us to inform them privately. So, you see, it is not counter intuitive. I am just throwing them the arguments I have been given as excuses.

I feel differently. People write here for the love of writing and it shouldn't be too much if they ask for feedback. I am guessing you have not been writing FFs, otherwise you would see how many demands we get in a day demanding personal PMs for our updates. Funny when someone I had never heard from or know suddenly IM me and accuse me of not informing them about my updates or buddying them. We get a lot of demands, so we can't we just ask for comments. If one post on feedback is too much pressure, you should see how writers are getting pestered. But you are a commenter, so you haven't seen that silent reading behavior.
