SIXY TWO
In spite of everything Zoya managed to have a peaceful night, she still felt weak but was able to draw the strength she needed from Asad. Doctor Yash had come to see them; he had flown in especially to see to Zoya, Asad had the power and money to bring in the best people and when it concerned Zoya he was going to make sure that she received the best treatment no matter what the cost.
Doctor Yash was very direct in his approach he went through every process and fully explained what Zoya should expect. Asad had really underestimated Zoya, she presented herself a lot more composed and a lot stronger than he had expected. 'Like with any course of treatment you need to understand that there are no guarantees there are days you will feel really ill you will need all the support you can get and there may be times where we will need you to stay in overnight depending on how your body responds to the chemotherapy...Mr Khan we will need to transfer Mrs Khan to our cancer specialist hospital in Mumbai, we can carry out the initial test here but you will need move there. The sessions are intensive she will require six in total at three week intervals'. Asad's heart sank he tightened his grip on Zoya's hand she looked at him and smiled trying to reassure him that she was ok. 'Thank you doctor I understand' 'Mr Khan the quicker you can arrange for Mrs Khan to move the sooner we can start her treatment' 'No worries doctor I will have arranged everything by this evening and we can fly Zoy out by tomorrow morning' The doctor shook Asad's hand and left them as soon as he did he hugged Zoya 'stupid question but are you ok?' 'Yes as long as I have you with me Asad I will always be ok'.
Asad called home to let them know what was going on. He asked Humera to come to the hospital with Razia so he could go sort out and finalise arrangements for their move to Mumbai. He had a conversation with Zoya and decided to ask Razia and Ghaffur to accompany them to Mumbai and the rest of the family could visit in rotation. 'What about your work Asad?' Zoya you don't need to worry about that Aman and Ayaan will handle it and I will ask Imran to work on any legal frameworks, my work is not as important as you Zoya...all I want is for you to concentrate on getting better nothing else'. 'How long will you be?' Zoya asked holding onto his arm Asad kissed her cheek I'll be back before you know it, nowyou get some rest Humera and your mum will be reaching soon'.
Najma helped Asad pack their bags for Mumbai, she arranged for two house maids to travel with them 'Baji, I would prefer if the maids would leave now so they can have everything sorted out...I mean clean the place and...' Asad felt his knees go weak and sat down, Najma came rushing to his side 'hey you ok...Asad don't worry everything will be ok. I will get Ram to put them on the next train, and I have already asked Ayaan to have you taken by private plane' Asad looked up to his sister 'thanks Baji...it's just sometimes I feel at a total lost I don't know if I can deal with this' Najma cupped Asad's face 'and when has there ever been a time when my brother can't deal with anything...Asad with what Doctor Yash said things are only going to get harder and you are only human...just remember you are not alone we are all her for you' 'thanks Baji...I should get going...if you guys want to come and meet her later on in the evening we probably will leave early tomorrow'.
Later that evening everyone came to meet Zoya. They were all happy to see her in high spirit even though Asad was pleased to see her positive attitude and self-confidence he couldn't help worrying that Zoya was masking a lot of her emotions, he wanted her to express whatever she felt and deal with it rather than hide it and let everyone think that she was ok.
Feeling rather anxious Asad didn't sleep he spent the night watching over Zoya trying to fathom how such an innocent soul such a beautiful human being could be tested so much in life she had suffered every kind of blow he could think of but she never gave up and that is what he prayed for today that she continues to stand up and fight to show the world that she isn't going to give up and will overcome any obstacle head on.
Ayaan arrived at the hospital where Zoya and Asad were waiting for him. The doctor had arranged for a nurse to accompany them on their flight to Mumbai as an added precaution. 'I thought I knew everything about you' Zoya said teasingly 'you do Zoya' 'no, I never knew my husband had a private jet and all this time I had been flying around the world in noise filled crowded plane's when I had the luxury of this beauty at my finger tips' Asad laughed 'I am sorry Mrs Khan, from now on this beauty is at your disposal you take it where ever you want to go'.
The flight to Mumbai was not long once they had settled into their apartment Asad drove Zoya do the hospital to meet with Doctor Yash and his team. Zoya had been asked to stay in overnight so they could keep a close eye on her before initiating the first chemotherapy session in the morning 'Asad I want you to go back to the apartment Ammi can stay with me, you haven't slept properly for days' the last thing Asad wanted to do was leave Zoya but she was right he needed to sleep 'ok but I will be back first thing tomorrow, here is your phone keep texting me to let me know you are ok' 'Asad I will have mum with me so no need to worry and if I keep texting you how will you sleep...now go...and that's an order Mr Khan'.
The next morning Zoya woke up to severe stomach cramps she tried to muffle her screams but wasn't very successful. Razia ran to get the doctor 'Mrs Siddiqui if you could wait outside while we examine your daughter' Razia went outside she couldn't bare to see her daughter like this Zoya was kneeling over crying in pain the doctors were injecting her with medication making her cry out in even more pain. She quickly thought of Asad and called him luckily he was already on his way to the hospital, he ran through the corridors at rocket speed only to stop outside her room 'Aunty what happened' he asked in a panic, Razia tried to control her crying 'I don't know what happened she woke up complaining of stomach pains and then she started to scream saying that she couldn't bare the pain' Asad face started to mirror Zoya's pain if she was hurting then so was he.
Once the doctors had finished seeing her Asad went to sit with her 'from now on I am not going anywhere...I leave you for the shortest time and you get half the hospitals male population running around you' Zoya laughed as tears ran down her cheeks 'I'm sorry Mr Khan...looks like you have a little competition' Asad wiped her cheek with his thumb 'nope no competition at all...Zoya is mine only...now stop trying to talk and close your eyes'. Once Zoya had fallen asleep Asad went to speak to the doctor about what had happened 'although very painful and discomforting these cramps are quite normal...there is nothing to worry about Mr Khan we are fully prepared for any future occurances...as soon as Doctor Yash comes in we can prep Mrs Khan for her first session and if all goes well you can take her home tomorrow morning'.
As time passed Zoya started to become more and more anxious on the face of it she seemed to be holding it together but deep inside she was falling apart. She feared the unknown having just started her life with Asad she questioned how life could be so unfair to her who had she ever caused any harm to have been punished in such a way. Lost in her thoughts Zoya didn't notice that Doctor Yash and Asad had come to take her. Asad had called out to her a couple of times, when she didn't respond he went to her and stroked her back 'Zoya..it's time to go' Zoya looked up confused 'huh' came her reply 'Doctor Yash is here it's time to go...come' Asad helped Zoya stand up they had brought a wheel chair for her but she refused to sit in it 'I am ok to walk...I don't need the chair' Asad held her hand keeping her close to him as they walked behind the doctor.
Zoya walked into a big room filled with bright lights there was a bed in the middle of the room with various equipment and machinery around as she breathed in her hold on Asad tightened. Both of them were fighting their emotions they were going through their own turmoil but trying to be strong for one another too. Zoya lay down she asked the doctor if Asad could stay with her throughout the process, which he had agreed to, Doctor Yash explained in detail what he was going to do, as Zoya listened to him intently Asad kept his eyes on her face she looked so pale and her eyes looked void of any emotion which worried him, he had spoken to her about holding back emotionally he didn't want her to feel that she couldn't scream, shout or cry if that is what she felt like doing. Doctor Yahs instructed the nurse to bring him Zoya's file as he got ready to start the procedure, Zoya lay back looking at Asad giving him a small smile, Asad lifted her hand and kissed the back of it 'everything is going to be ok Zoya'.
Whilst Zoya underwent her first session of chemotherapy Razia and Ghaffur waited outside, Ghaffur took charge of calling and keeping everyone informed of any developments. As they sat and waited patiently back at KM, Najma and Naani sat on their prayer mats praying to Allah to no end, Shireen took over the day to day running of KM with Ayaan and Imran looking after business in Asad's absence, Humera worked to ensure that they always had what they needed when they did, it was amazing how the family naturally fell in and adapted to their changing environment every one of them looking out for one another in their most difficult times.
Humera had taken it upon herself to let Zoya's friends know about her condition she called Farhan's mum to break the news of her cancer. She called Sara and Sahil to KM to tell them in person, Sara broke down completely she wanted to see her but was told that at this moment in time no one was to see her. Humera asked them to refrain from bombarding her with messages and calls only to give her some time, which they appreciated and agreed to do.
Back in Mumbai Zoya was brought back to her room the session had gone well 'Mrs Khan you may feel a little nauseous but that is quite normal other than that you won't experience anything out of the ordinary the full side effects normally kick in by the third session, what I need you to do in the meantime is make sure you eat properly and keep yourself rested the last thing we want is you feeling weak and passing out' Zoya nodded in acknowledgment of what the doctor was saying. Once the doctor had left Razia and Ghaffur came to sit with Zoya giving Asad some time to catch up with himself.
