Thanks for the PM. It's such a beautiful story and every little nuance of the characters and situations so well written😊
Brilliant update Ankita👍🏼
The way you portrayed the scenes was superb...Zoya's bonding with Aahana and Asad's frantic return home was captured clearly.👍🏼The relevation that Aahana had been kidnapped was a shocker. Waiting to read Zoya's reaction.I'm glad that Zoya has begun to make Asad think about his behaviour and overprotectivness...

update soon 😊
Zoya sat in the living room all by herself, shocked on hearing another dreadful truth about this family. When she had walked into the house 2 days back she could have never guessed that staying here would be like unearthing mysteries that had been suppressed over years. She felt guilty that she had scratched that bit of Asad's past he was probably trying to wipe out from his memory. She had to talk to him. She had preached him earlier in the day and he hadn't responded angrily like he normally would but had said his heart out, even though merely for a few seconds
Zoya stood outside Asad's room and thought over what she wanted to talk to Asad and knocked at his door. When even after a few knocks he didn't respond or open his door, she moved back to leave for her room, understanding he needed his space.
"Miss Farooqui?" She heard him exclaim just as she had turned her back to the door. She turned back to see Asad standing with a sleeping Aahana in his arms.
"Uh I am sorry, maine aapko disturb toh nahi kiya ?"
"Nahi its okay, come in.. woh mai Aahana ko sula raha tha. She woke up annoyed with a wet nappy." Asad whispered sheepishly, and Zoya giggled softly at his expression.
She stood besides the couch as he gently placed Aahana in her cradle tucking her in comfortably and patting her to make sure she was sound asleep.
They both sat down on the couch, but suddenly she felt extremely awkward, unable to string two words together. She felt like she had intruded his privacy, when she should have waited till the morning to talk to him.
"Miss Farooqui kya aap sirf yaha mere room mai baithne aayi hai?" Asad implored curiously. Zoya let out a small nervous laugh at his words, making him smile slightly too.
"Actually Mr Khan this seems like a repeat of the last night par mai aapse maafi maange aayi hun."
"Maafi? Kis baat ke liye? Miss Farooqui look, I know we've argued a lot and had our share of differences so far, but I am really short tempered and when I get angry I seldom say things that I most definitely regret later. I think hume kam baat karni chahiye. Because I've realised we'll never reach a common conclusion in anything we talk about and I'll end up saying things I shouldn't be.."
"Mr Khan mujhe toh baat toh karne dijiye. Aur kehne ko mai zyaada bolti hun?"
Asad nodded allowing her to talk what she had come there for." Mr Khan aapki Ammi ne mujhe bataya ki jo maine aapko din mai kaha tha woh kitna galat tha, uh.. aur kyun galat tha?"
Asad looked up at her curiously unable to understand the implication of her words and wondered what his Ammi had let out to her now.
"Unhone mujhe bataya ki Aahana.. I mean woh.. she got kidnapped when she..."
"Ms Farooqui PLEASE, mujhe iss baare mai koi baat nahi karni hai.." Asad halted her before she could even utter the words that rekindled his memory.
But Zoya didn't relent, she knew talking helped more than escaping the truth did "Mr Khan I am really sorry, maine mazak mai jo baat keh di, it must have hurt you deeply I never realised what I was saying could be so offensive.."
Zoya stared at him, his back hunched, his eyes shut as if he was trying to block out the memories of his past and her heart went out to him. She hadn't realised she had gotten closer to Asad to the extent of wanting to know him better and affected by what he felt.
Asad felt a soft hand on his shoulder and turned to look at Zoya who was staring back at him with concern and understanding in her eyes, no sympathy and no curiousity to know anything more than she knew.
"I know you don't want to talk about it, and anyway mai kuch jaane nahi aayi thi, I just wanted to tell you I understand how it feels, and that I am sorry I was so insensitive. Mai chalti hun ab ..aap bahut thake hue lag rahe hai you should go to bed..Good night"
Zoya waited for him to respond to her, nod at her or even reciprocate to her Goodnight, but when he stayed silent and motionless she sighed and stood up to leave his room..
"It was a hectic day at office, I hadn't gotten to spend time with Aahana that morning and was reeling under the guilt of leaving her with Ammi and the lady we had hired to help us with her. ..."
Zoya stopped in her tracks immediately gathering herself when she realised Asad was talking to her about that incident. She walked back to the couch and sat next to him, a bit closer than earlier. She placed her hand on his shoulder, wordlessly giving some support.
"Ammi aur mai bahut kosish karte the ki hum Aahana ko akele sambhal le, par woh bahut choti thi, and there were so many times when even the both of us couldn't manage her. I had work to take care of, Najma had her studies and I didn't want Ammi to be burdened so much. So we hired a help, Chitra naam tha unka aur woh umar mai kaafi badi thi, shayad Ammi se kuch saal choti hi hongi. Hume bharose layak lagi."
" She seemed like a loving lady, she cared for Aahana and all of us so much, that we begun trusting her, with the house with our secrets, and with Aahana. And she was able to manage her so well ki mai aur Ammi unke aate hi beparwah ho jaate the, hume yakeen hota tha ki woh Aahana ka poora khayal rakhengi, shayad humse bhi zyaada." Zoya sat listening to him while his voice became heavier as he spoke further.
"Uss din mai Aahana ke uthne se pehle hi office chala gaya, I had the biggest deal to crack that day. But even while I was at work the fact that I hadn't tended to Aahana kept biting me. Ammi aur Chitra dono hi ghar mai the. Phir achanak Ammi ke kisi rishtedaar ko hospital mai admit kiya gaya, aur unhe waha jaana pada. Najma college mai thi aur isliye Aahana ke saath Chitra ghar mai hi thi akeli.." Asad's voice cracked and Zoya realised what he was going to say next and tighened her hold on his shoulder.
"Ammi had called me informing of her sudden departure and Najma was going to come home late after her classes. Maine apna kaam jaldi khatam kar diya and I rushed home.. but when I reached home it was already late in the evening.. andhera ho chukka tha.. ghar ki lights off thi and I felt my heart dip. I was welcomed with eerie silence and an empty house. My chest was constricting and heart pounding against me. I didn't know what happened to me, like I had a premonition that something was really wrong, I ran across the house searching one room to the other, par waha koi nahi tha, ghar khali tha aur Aahana gayab.. I was so lost, so clueless. I sat there in the dark in the living room waiting for hours, hoping for the door to open and Chitra to walk in with Aahana, only telling myself she must have taken her for a stroll in the pram. Ghanton guzar gaye par na woh aayi aur na meri Aahana..." Asad's restraint on himself broke and his eyes scrunched tighter as tears seeped down his cheeks. He couldn't speak any further and just covered his face with his hands lest he broke down further in front of Zoya.
Zoya who had been hearing him letting his heart out cried silently with him. She felt the agony of a father and realised where his insecurities stemmed from. She glanced at Ayesha's portrait on the wall opposite her, then looked at a peaceful Aahana in her cradle and then finally at a broken Asad sitting next to her. And her hands automatically wrapped around Asad, not caring that he might not like it, that he might not accept the comfort she was providing and push her away.
But to her surprise Asad moved in her hold and hugged her back. She felt him sob slightly and understood his efforts of restraining himself. But she knew he was vulnerable, and needed someone today. She hugged him back tightly and rubbed her hand gently on his shoulder to sooth him.
Asad didn't realise when he had suddenly found so much solace in Zoya's arms, that he had turned to her and hidden himself in her embrace. He stayed there, feeling peaceful not wanting to move away. Whether it was because he was vulnerable that moment, or that his heart suddenly felt something for the guest at his house he didn't know, but he felt at peace after a very long time.
The serene moment was disturbed by Aahana's cry. Both Asad and Zoya pulled apart immediately. Just like that the moment between them had vanished and replaced by a weird sense of awkwardness. Asad couldn't believe he had hugged Zoya like that, and couldn't even manage to look into her eyes. Asad was so oblivious of his surrounding that he didn't even realise that Aahana had woken up and was calling out for him from the cradle. When he didn't respond, Zoya walked over to Aahana's cradle and took her in her arms.
"Sssh baby it's okay, Abu's here, Zoya's here too. Come on go to sleep." Zoya patted her back trying to put her to sleep. But Aahana needed her Abu, she wasn't used to seeing an unresponsive Abu when she was crying. She wailed loudly,"BU!" a voice that made Asad reach to her in a jiffy. He cuddled her in his arms and patted her back making her sleep, but she wouldn't stop.
Zoya looked at Asad in worry wondering why the baby was restless at this hour.
"Usee bhook lagi hai shayad , I'll get her milk, aap isse thodi der sambhalengi?"
Zoya nodded and took Aahana from his arms while Asad rushed out of his room wanting to escape from that room, and from Zoya, totally embarrassed by his actions.
Zoya sat on his bed with Aahana in her arms, trying to put her back to sleep. She had managed to stop her cries and put her on the bed where she lay silently when she heard a noise from outside the window. Zoya looked up to see a shadow on the window that was connected to the area outside Asad's room. She stood up and walked silently towards it and gasped when she saw a figure approaching from outside trying to enter the room.
Just few minutes ago Asad had spoken about a scary incident to her when Aahana had been harmed. Seeing some bizarre figure appear out of nowhere trying to break in Asad's room terrified her to no extent. She swiftly picked up the covers that lay on Asad's bed and the vase that decorated his shelf. She ducked besides the couch hiding herself, waiting for the intruder to make a move. She heard the window creak open and saw the image jump onto the couch. She leapt forward and trapped the stranger with the covers and began hitting him.
"Kaun ho tum, kyun aaye ho yaha haan, chori karne aaye ho kidnap karne aaye ho? "Tumhe pata nahi hai tumhara kisse paala pada. Zoya Farooqui naam hai mera, ache acho ko maar giraya hai maine. Abhi agar mera pepper spray hota na toh chidak chidak ke behosh kar diya hota maine.."
She heard muffled voices from beneath the cover as the person tried to struggle out of her hold. But she bravely fought and kept hitting him and didn't let him move away lest he entered the house and harmed anyone.
Asad was walking back with Aahana's milk bottle towards his room praying that Zoya had put Aahana to sleep and left the room. He had no guts to face her after the moment they had gotten so close. Even if it was just a hug and she was trying to comfort him, he felt he had crossed a line, not only for her but the one he'd made for himself.
As he approached the door to his room, he heard Zoya's voice shouting at someone. He immediately broke in to see Zoya thrashing someone who was trapped with the quilt. He shot a quick glance on the bed and saw Aahana asleep and rushed to Zoya..
"Miss Farooqui! Ye kaun hai kisse mar rahi hai aap?"
"Oh thank God Mr Khan aap aa gaye, dekhiye na koi chup kar aapke kamre mai aa raha tha."
"Par ye hai kaun Miss Farooqui," Asad asked baffled at how Zoya was holding onto the intruder and hitting him constantly.
"Allah Miyaan what's wrong with you Mr Khan, aapko kya lagta hai ki meri criminals se koi khaas pechhan hai ye phir maine usse giraft mai lene se pehle uska introduction liya tha."
While Zoya got distracted responding to Asad, the person pushed her away. Zoya stumbled back and was going to land on the floor but Asad caught her immediately, saving the fall and held her protectively in his strong arms.
"Bhaijaan?" Asad and Zoya stood apart hearing the intruder speak up. Asad looked back at the intruder dazed, while Zoya was astounded hearing the man acknowledging Asad as his brother.
Asad was shocked seeing him there, and more so because he had been beaten black and blue by Zoya.."Ayaan?" he exclaimed.
NOTE : - I know the kidnapping bit ended abruptly, but the details regarding it will only come out in time, because its related to another twist in the story altogether. I need Asad's past or just about everything about him revealed to Zoya for the story right now. Zoya's past is the bigger picture shall come out later 😊 so hopefully no one has complains with that LOL. And its a short update this time, I'll update next week now. And PMS for this part come later.
P.S -- Thanks so much for all the comments and support 🤗
