The Science of Selecting the Leads - A Forum 32 Experiment!
Karan Singh Grover and Surbhi Jyoti in Qubool Hai
We at Forum 32 have a lab. We experiment. So, we mix chemicals, infuse gases and yes create concoctions that confuses most and brings laughter to some. As usual, we were experimenting with what goes on to make a serial. Like a jigsaw puzzle, we listed out the science behind the series (Ha Ha! Now you all will definitely think we have lost it) . But then we do the strangest things.
So, we brought in the three main ingredients of a series. No, no, we are not talking about the hero, heroine and villain. We have talked about that already. Now, it is the Science of it remember. Anyway, so where were we? Science - Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
Now, every series needs this but the efficacy given to each aspect differs. Some series give importance to Physics - read looks, some give Biology - read the body type and some give to Chemistry. Now depending on the weightage, we find that the Chemistry usually gets the maximum mileage. The lead pair do not gain popularity due to the Physics or Biology but because of the Chemistry between them. Or so, our experiment shows.
We studied Series like Saathiya - Saath Nibhana, where the science of the leads did not yield the result where the screen was in danger of combusting by their mere presence but there existed chemistry between the audience and Kokilabe, that worked wonders or so we think. May be we can do experiment on that too? But some other day. Now, we shall concentrate on the leads.
Then we took up series like Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behena Hai, Bade Achche Lagte Hain, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata hai, Sasural Genda Phool, Kis Desh Mein Hai Mera Dil, Dil Mil Gaye, Diya Aur Baati Hum, Uttaran, Balika Vadhu, Mann Ki Awaaz Pratigya, Maryada, Rang Badalti Odhani, Geet - Hui Sabse Parayi, Miley Jab Hum Tum, Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon, Qubool Hai, Dil Dosti Dance, Suvreen Guggal - Topper of the Year, Punar Vivah, Madhubala - Ek Ishq, Ek Junoon and yes plenty to have a wide range. The top twenty most popular jodi was something that we looked up.
And we found that it is always the Chemistry between the leads that adds to the popularity of a show. From Viren-Jeevika (Karan Tacker and Krystle D'souza), Viraat-Maanvi (Kushal Tandon and Nia Sharma) to RK - Madhu (Vivian D'sena and Drashti Dhami) all the leads have something that makes the screen sizzle, the pulse of the audience beat harder and yes, believe in fairy tales where love lives happily after.
And coming to 4 Lions Films, we have Gul Khan and Nissar Parvez who have ability to find the cast that is bang on and perhaps the characteristics that they look for in people when they cast, is the foundation for the jodi to become a hit. The shows that have the most popular jodis have either Nissar Parvez or Gul Khan behind the scene, be it Love Ne Mila Di Jodi, Dil Mil Gaye, Miley Jab Hum Tum, Geet- Hui Sabse Parayi, Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon or Qubool Hai. In one of the interviews, Gul Khan did say, the couple need to have sensational chemistry and then characteristics like expressive eyes. We recently saw a Video Mix of Arnav Singh Raizada (Barun Sobti) and Asad Ahmed Khan (Karan Singh Grover) and their rolling eyes. That said it all. Here it is for you.

What makes you all fall in love with the jodi? Is it the Physics (Karan's dimples for example or Surbhi's big eyes), Biology ( Gurmeet Choudhary's physique or Drashti Dhami's curves in a white sari) or the Chemistry (the sizzle of the screen when you see Arnav Singh Raizada almost kiss Khushi Kumari Gupta?)
What works for you? Or is the science of it all that is important?
Then next we shall talk of the History, Geography and English of it all!
Forum 32 Lab is open to experiments. Stay glued.
