This was a topic on my mind for a very long time, ever since we first heard of this Ajmer Dargah sequence. I felt this was a nice time to have this discussion because honestly discussing the real itself is impossible considering how unbearable it has become.
There has always been much debate about the representation of Muslims and Islam on this show. Many people had certain expectations when this was promoted as the first show about Muslim families in a very long time, saying that it will change the perception of Muslims etc…Then there are people like me who didn't have any expectations that that sort from the show. In many occasions like during the Quran reading episode, and Zoya's mini skirt, the accuracy of what the writers were trying to preach was questioned.
Personally I have always maintained that this show is about Muslim characters not Islam and so is not responsible to show the characters being practicing Muslims or anything of that sort and that this show is not a representation of Islam or any religion.
However, I did have a huge question this past week with the importance the dargah was given. I understand it is very much a part of eastern culture to go to Dargahs even though it is not a part of Islam. I just want to know why this was given so much importance? Till today not once have any of these characters been shown to go to a mosque, and then this practice of going to Dargahs promoted in this show so much. I don't live in the east, and as far as I know, believing that praying in a dargah will help one's prayers get answered or anything of that sort is committing shirk.
What are your views on the importance the Dargah is given in this show?
