The sound of his name from her luscious lips and her melodic voice was enough for him to lose the last shred of self-control holding him back. He gently pulled her in for an embrace, and place a tentative kiss on the right side of her milky neck. Zoya sighed and closed her eyes as she felt his soft lips on her skin.
He slowly trailed her neck with kisses, making his way to her mouth. He stopped and looked into her eyes again, making sure she wanted this as much as he did. She slid her hand from his hair and brought it back to where his dimple was before. She looked at the spot she was touching and then into his eyes.
That was all the permission Asad needed. He gently kissed the corner of her mouth and then started to nibble on her lower lip. Zoya moaned, and smiled into his lips. She didn't know why, but it felt so right. She felt like he had the right to kiss her, to hold her, to touch her like that. A right no other man held. She ran her hands through his ebony hair and caressed his dimples, on both sides this time.
He smiled back into her lips and kept nibbling, now on her upper lip. He'd dreamt of ravishing her for longer than he cared to admit. Most recently, when she had fallen into his arms, the night of the jashan-e-saugat. When her hair had gotten stuck in his buttons: she was so close to him, her scent intoxicating him. The same scent that was making him lose his mind at that very moment. He could get used to this.
Zoya snapped back to reality as she felt his tongue on her lips and slowly pulled out. She didn't want to startle him, but she was utterly confused. He kept saying this was a nakli nikaah, but looked at her with caring eyes. And now this... that kiss... She looked into his confused eyes, with her questioning ones and hoped he'd understand.
Asad was surprised at her pulling back, but as soon as he looked into her eyes he understood. It was time to end this. He'd played with her feelings for too long. He could tell that all these rasaams and the engagement were far from nakli for her. And if he was being honest with himself, they weren't fake to him either. His fear of hurting her was nonetheless still there. But looking into her eyes he realized, he had no right to make that decision for her. They needed to talk. No lies, no evasiveness and no excuses.
Zoya saw the lust in his eyes turn into resolve. She was afraid he'd turn back to his Akdu mode, and felt disheartened. She started to let go of him, as she looked at down at her feet, but he wouldn't relent. She looked back up at him.
"Let me go, Mr. Khan," she said sternly, her voice cracking at the last syllable, averting her gaze from his.
Hearing her voice crack like that broke his heart. And now more than ever, he knew, he had to clear the air. It could mean a new life for them, or it could mean a life of misery and regret. But if he didn't get it all out in the open, he would never know for sure.
"Zoya..." he paused, as he saw her eyes shoot up at him at the sound of her name. "We need to talk."
"About what?" she asked, her voice just above a whisper.
Asad loosed his grip on her waist, and took her hands in his. He grabbed the saree with one hand and flung in onto her bed. He took her hands again and guided her gently to sit on the bed.
"Zoya..." he repeated, "Kya tumhe yeh sagaai, yeh rasmein, yeh... nikaah... nakli lagte hain?"
Zoya was taken aback by the seriousness in his voice. He'd been denying this being a real wedding and engagement for days, and now he's asking her if it's real to her? He's never been up front... maybe... I should...
"I know I've been insisting it's all fake...," he looked down as he continued, "but... that's because I'm afraid. I'm afraid to hurt you. Like-"
"Like your abbu," Zoya cut him off, as understanding finally dawned on her. All those moments when he would look at her with such intensity, such concern, such... love. He loved her... Asad Ahmed Khan was in love!? With her!?
Asad's eyes shot up to look at her. How did she know...
Zoya cupped his face with one of her hands, and looked into his eyes.
"You are not your father. You would never do that. You couldn't." In that moment Zoya realized that he was not the only one in love. She loved him. She wanted to be with him. To be there for him. To show how beautiful life could be. How beautiful a man he was, inside and out, she thought, smiling inwardly.
"But... I've already hurt you so many times... and now I realized, that even if that's the case, it should be your choice. I have no right to make the decision for you. I mean it's not necessary for you to feel the same way and-" but he didn't finish.
Zoya put her hand on his lips. "Asad... I love you."
His eyes widened. He moved her hand from his mouth with his own hand, and smiled a little. She said his name. She loves you, you fool!, screamed his heart. She loves him... She loves him!?
She saw the shock in his eyes and felt a little uncomfortable. Did I read him wrong? Is he going to deny his feelings again? Allah miya why did I say that! A whole slew of thoughts ran wild in her head and she started to look down, to the sides and everywhere but his eyes.
"Zoya... I... woh, actually..."
"Allah miya, Mr. Khan! Phir se 'woh' aur 'actually'?" she exclaimed. Asad couldn't help but smile at her antics. He pulled her closer and put his forehead on hers, both his hands holding hers. Zoya's heart started to beat erratically, and her breathing became heavy. He stroked her hands with his thumbs, and looked up at her, with a smirk, well aware of his effect on her.
"I love you, too." he whispered, as he squeezed her hands tightly.
She couldn't help but smile at this. "So, Ms. Zoya Farooqui, kya aapko apne Akdu Ahmed Khan se nikaah qubool hai? I can't promise a blissful life, but I can promise that I will do my best to keep you happy, to trust you. Because I was wrong, Zoya. You are not a misfit. I was the misfit for you. I kept hurting you." She winced, but he continued, knowing he had to get it all out. "Every time you were leaving I felt like I couldn't breathe. But I promise from this day forth, this Jahapana will try to be more like his kaneez," he finished, flashing her his dimpled smile.
Zoya's eyes brimmed with tears. "Iss kaneez ko, Jahapana Six Packs Qubool Hai, Qubool Hai, Qubool Hai..."
So how was it guys? I know it's impossible haha and very cheesy, but I really wanted him to catch her or tease her about dreaming with the saree in her hand.. and this what came out haha :)
