chapter 5:When Tables Turn
Part 1
Zoya was sitting on her bed with crossed legs and slumped shoulders, "Allah miyan! Why does have to be the weekend?! I can't stick Mr. Khan for two whole days!" Asad was standing near her door and he smirked, "I know, I'm quite a boring person, so i thought of lightening things up." She realized that Asad had been listening and she glared at him. She grumbled, "Look who's talking." He sighed, "Be ready at 7. I'll be waiting for you.", he placed a gift wrapped box beside her, that he'd been hiding behind his back and walked off. Zoya called after him, a million question buzzing like bees in her brain, "Wait! What do you mean by, be ready at seven? I totally won't be ready at 7, you heard me, right?" He sighed again and walked off, he knew she was just trying to make him lose his cool. Zoya was exasperated, "What does he mean? Is he asking me out or something? What?! Wait, no way! Zoya, you are the definition of paagal. Why would such a boring insaan like him, bother to ask someone out?", she answered to herself. Zoya looked at the box, "Its not my birthday again, is it?" She picked up the box and tore away the gift wrap. She opened it and gasped. There was a beautiful saree lying in the box, untouched. She held the saree against her cheeks and blushed. Asad had got the saree, specially for her. It was a pink saree, similar to the one she's worn that night, at the farmhouse. She remembered the dance with Asad, in the rain and blushed even more. Unaware that she had an audience, she kept on adoring the saree. He jahanpana six pack was standing outside, peeking through a gap between the door and the frame, with a triumphant smile on his face. He was tempted to run in and kiss her bright red cheeks, but he managed to control himself. He sighed satisfactorily and walked off to his room, already pining for 7 o clock to come.
Asad was in his room, typing away on his laptop. He heard his room door open, he looked up to see who it was. There was a beautiful woman standing there, in a beautiful saree. He fell in a trance. His Zoya was standing there, giving him her million dollar dimpled smile. He was mesmerized, he opened his mouth to say something, but instead he ende up looking like a goldfish, opening and shutting its mouth. Zoya advanced towards him slowly, still wearing that blinding smile. She came up to him and caressed his cheeks. He took hold of her hand and kissed it and Zoya blushed a little. Unable to take it any longer, he grabbed her by the bare side of her waist and pulled her into his lap, in such a way that their faces were a hair's breadth away from meeting. She blushed crimson red now. Sensing her awkwardness, he took advantage of that and leaned in closer, so that their lips touched. Zoya was now breathing heavily, but she did not withdraw herself. Just when he was about to lean in closer, she sprang up with a mischievous twinkle in her eyes and started to run away. Asad tried to grab her, but she escaped. He called after her, to come back, "Zoya!"
He woke up with a start. He looked at his watch, it was 4.30. He remembered his dream and muttered to himself, "A little late." He got up and walked over to Zoya's room. He saw her sleeping peacefully on her bed, cuddling the saree he'd given her. He smiled and walked over and sat beside her. He touched her cheeks and she mumbled something and smiled in her sleep. He bent over and kissed her forehead. Then Zoya started to say something, "Mr. Khan, please let me go. I swear, I'll never barge into your room again. Please!!!" Zoya woke up and saw Asad smiling into her face. Still not aware that she'd been dreaming, she pleaded to him, "Please don't kiss me! I'll never run into your room again and..." Her voice trailed off when she realized that she was on her bed, in her room and she'd been dreaming. Asad was smirking at her with his eyebrow raised. She blushed, "Woh...actually..." "That's my line.", Asad interrupted. He was amused that both of them had dreamed about kissing each other. Zoya, desperate to change the topic, started shouting, "Anyway, what are you doing in my room? You always ramble on about knocking on the door before entering and now I've heard it so many times that you're even invading my sleep! How dare you try to ki..." She shut herself up when she realized what she was about to say. Asad was again looking at her with that smirk on his face. Much to her shock and surprise, he suddenly leaned and kissed her. He had wrapped one of his hands around her waist, so that she doesn't escape. he felt her not responding, so he started to withdraw himself, but then he felt her hand grab his neck and kiss him back, equally passionate. After what seemed like a million years, they withdrew themselves. Zoya blushed really bright, when she realized the intimacy of the situation. Asad lifted her chin up, who was now looking at everything except him. He looked into her eyes and saw her eyes rebelling to meet his. He leaned in again and kissed her on her cheek and whispered into her ear, "Thank you, Zoya." He got up and walked away. Zoya watched him walk away. She touched her cheek, where Asad had kissed her and smiled to herself.
After 2 hours:
Asad knocked on Zoya's door impatiently. He'd been waiting for the past 20 minutes. Irritated, he went to living room and waited for her over there. After a few minutes, she came into the living room. Asad had his face buried in the newspaper. She cleared her throat to grab his attention. Without turning to look at her, he grumbled, "So Queen Victoria is finally ready?" Zoya got irritated that he hadn't even looked at her, although he'd wanted her to wear that saree and she snapped back at him, "Actually, she isn't! She's gonna go right back to her room now and change what she's wearing, because nobody's paying her attention!" This caught Asad's attention, Zoya started to march back to her room, but Asad immediately got up and pulled her back, to face him. He was taken aback. He checked her out, from head to toe. He was totally mesmerized, she looked like an angel, "You look gorgeous." Zoya blushed at his comment. He tried to lean in and kiss her again, but she buried her face into his chest, as he'd already caught hold of her. He felt her warm breath against his chest, it sent a chill up his spine. He ran his fingers over her waist and he felt her breathing get heavier against his chest. He pulled her back forcefully and pinned her against the wall. He ran his fingers over her cheeks and down her neck. He leaned in again and tried to kiss her, Zoya struggled, but in no avail. Asad smirked at her, looking at her desperate expression. Then he withdrew himself, much to Zoya's pleasure and said, "I think I should save it for tonight." He picked her up in his arms and walked over to his car and put her in. He climbed into his seat and drove off.
"Mr. Khan, where are we going?", asked Zoya. "You'll see.", said Asad. Zoya was not satisfied with his answer, "Mr. Khan, you have to tell me
now! Abhi!" He smiled at her childish behaviour, "You'll have to learn some patience first." Zoya looked irritated, "How do I know you're not trying to kidnap me?" Asad smiled at her and replied, "Why would I even dare? You can kill somebody just with that mouth of yours, once you open it, it doesn't close until the person listening has passed out." Zoya glared at him, her face red with anger, Asad noticed this and smirked, irritating her all the more. Then the red light of a signal flashed. In the time they were waiting, Asad leaned over and kissed her cheek, which was still red. He stroked it and whispered into her ear softly, "You are so red, you look like a tomato." Zoya looked a little startled at his comment and pulled up a little to see her reflection in the rear mirror. He was right, she did look like a tomato. Asad smiled at her and pulled himself back as the green signal flashed. The rest of the journey was unnaturally quiet, as Zoya did not speak much.
When they finally pulled up at their destination, Zoya was surprised. She was expecting, they would go to some restaurant or something, but she found a fenced garden, decorated with lighting and heart shaped balloons. She got out of the car and walked up to it. Asad came and stood behind her. She turned and looked at him, with grateful eyes. Asad smiled at her and took her by the hand and led her in. He walked her over to a table and made her sit down on a chair. He went and sat down on the chair on the opposite side of the table. "So?", Asad asked. Zoya decided to play with him a little, "What so?" "Do you like it?", Asad asked curiously. "Umm...I don't know.", said Zoya irritating him all the more. "What do you mean, you son't know?!", he asked irritated. Zoya replied, "You drive me to a place decorated with lighting and balloons and make me sit down on a chair and you ask me how it is. What am I supposed to say?" Asad sighed as he knew she was again pulling his leg. He opened the dish lid sitting in the middle of the table, to reveal Zoya's favorite mushroom pizza. Zoya squealed and immediately started tucking in. Asad smiled at her typical behavior. If this was a couple of months ago, he would have looked irritated. He also joined her, surprising Zoya, "Mr. Khan, I thought you didn't eat pizza." Asad smiled at her, "Maybe, just for tonight." After they finished, with the dessert, Asad went and switched on the stereo. The music started playing. He walked over to her and extended his hand, asking her for a dance. He held her waist with one hand, while the other held her hand. They started swaying to the rythm of the song.
Hum tere bin ab reh nahi sakte
Tere bina kya wajood mera (x2)
Tujhse juda gar ho jaayenge
Toh khud se hi ho jaayenge judaa
Kyunki tum hi ho
Ab tum hi ho
Zindagi ab tum hi ho
Chain bhi, mera dard bhi
Meri aashiqui ab tum hi ho
He twirled her around. Their eyes locked. He swiftly turned her around and held her waist. Just then drops of water started to touch their faces. It was raining. They remembered their night at the farmhouse. Zoya tried to cower away, but he held her firmly and spun her around.
Tera mera rishta hai kaisa
Ik pal door gawara nahi
Tere liye har roz hai jeete
Tujh ko diya mera waqt sabhi
Koi lamha mera na ho tere bina
Har saans pe naam tera
Kyunki tum hi ho
Ab tum hi ho
Zindagi ab tum hi ho
Chain bhi, mera dard bhi
Meri aashiqui ab tum hi ho
He caught her by he pallu, just as she about to run off and pulled her back into his arms. They stood their soaking wet, for a few seconds, taking in the pleasure of the moment.
Tumhi ho... Tumhi ho...
Tere liye hi jiya main
Khud ko jo yun de diya hai
Teri wafa ne mujhko sambhala
Saare ghamon ko dil se nikala
Tere saath mera hai naseeb juda
Tujhe paake adhoora naa raha hmm..
Kyunki tum hi ho
Ab tum hi ho
Zindagi ab tum hi ho..
Chain bhi, mera dard bhi
Meri aashiqui ab tum hi ho (x2)
They were both very quiet during their journey back home. Once they reached, unusually Asad was the first one to break the silence, "Go and get changed, we're already soaking wet." She nodded and walked back to her room.
After a while, Zoya barged into his room once again. She saw him pacing back and forth. He looked angry. "What happened, Mr. Khan?" Asad turned his towards her direction and shot a deadly glare at her, "Ms. Farooqui! How many times have I told you to knock before coming into my room. Did nobody ever teach you some tameez and tezheeb?" Zoya looked a little shocked at his suddern turn of behavior, "Allah miyan! What is wrong with you Mr. Khan?! Why are you shouting at me for such a small thing? Its not like you bother to knock, every time you come into my room." Asad got even more infuriated, "I don't care! All you know is to ruin people's lives and run over people's privacy. Your parents were lucky enough to die when you were just a kid, because you are someone to be ashamed of." Zoya was in tears, she looked at Asad totally shocked. Maybe a fuse hit Asad somewhere and he saw he'd brought up a topic, he shouldn't have. Before he could say anything else, she ran off to her room and locked it and burst into tears. Asad was standing in his room, looking guilty over what had just happened. He walked over to her room and found it locked. He knew there was no point trying to knock, or call for her. He just stood there for a minute, when he suddenly heard something smash on the floor. He banged the door and and my screamed, "ZOYA!!!"
