Hey Laila!

So i have literally been looking all day for this post and I finally found it...YAY!

What draws me to a story?-

  1. My absolute must for any SS, OS and FF I read is that the plot needs to be original...and it should have a plot! I detest writers who lift their story lines from movies or books they may have read. It shows no originality or creativity and that's a big red mark for me.
  2. The second is language. I am in complete agreement with havok shere. Grammar, good sentence structuring and spelling is absolutely essential. The minute the language is out of whack the joy of reading it disappears.
  3. Content- I don't mind any tone of the storytelling as long as it's told well. It can be angsty, romantic, funny, sad...anything as long as it's written well. The big draw in these stories would be if they are written realistically and well...adult. I appreciate writers who don't try and portray love as a sweet emotion...because romantic love is not...and it's refreshing to read people write these characters as flawed people. Also when writing the stories, I prefer the writer allows me to feel the "mitwa moment" whatever they maybe in the story rather than inserting the words mitwa moment. To me that is lazy writing. It's a cop out from actually describing the feelings between the two characters which as a reader I do not appreciate.
  4. Portrayal of characters- For me this is key. I like all my characters to be strong. Whether they are evil, good or bad they need to be able to hold their own. They have to be characterized well so that you understand their motivations to do things rather than just being told that so and so is good and so and so is bad. Zoya being portrayed as a woman who can stand up to any man and stand up for her rights and principles is an absolute pre-requisite for me.
  5. Love Scenes- They are not a must for me in a story but if they are being written I would rather not have Zoya be the docile little wall-flower. Women aren't fishes during sex. While sometimes romantic love scenes make sense within a story sometimes they don't and the writing needs to reflect that.

To answer the question of who i like to read-

Anything written by Dee (adeeti10), havokhotline, Fizzi and Smileystar,

I also enjoy CutieloveChocs and Starstruck's parodies and OS work. There are a few more but I can't remember them right now. I'll update it when i do :)

Aww someone remembers meee!! Hahaha! Thanks hun 🤗

Point 1, Wit and comedy is very important to me cos I believe thats what makes the readers stick to your work. A laugh or two while reading really makes my mood sometimes.

A confident Asad and a likable Zoya are reallyyy important! If I start reading an FF where the main lead's characters aren't good, it really puts me off! I absolutely adore those FFs where the main leads show shades of gray cos thats human nature! But it HAS TO BE written nicely to be pulled off with conviction!

For me the story doesn't need to have steamy and hot scenes! I can do without them. I'm more inclined towards stories that have cute, sweet romantic scenes.

Dialogue in Urdu... Hmmm... I'm a Pakistani so obviously my Urdu is really good but the only thing that stops me from writing dialoges in it is that not everyone's Urdu is good! And I can't be bothered translating every sentence in english as well 😛

Lovely Post!

I know what you mean... My Urdu isn't good, but Hindi is pretty decent. But subtitles just add to the workload

Exactly! I write the dialogues in English and many people have mentioned it on my FF thread that it really helps them cos most OSs are written in Urdu and they don't get them very well as their urdu/hindi isn't all that great! I'd love to write in Urdu though cos it makes your story all the more realistic 😳

Hi everyone, so far I've been a silent member of QH forum. I broke my silence to compliment on fanfics!! So when I saw this topic I couldn't resist.

What Laila captured was great! What I'd like to add was that the QH forum has the best fanfics ever! In my 6 yrs as a forum member I have never read as many FF/OS/SS as I have in QH forum. I just can't get enough of them!! The writers here are just amazing and should seriously consider a side career if not main as writer.

Among all the things that were listed so far in this discussion, two things really draw me in. The first is the depth of narrative of what is going on in the character's mind. I'll use an example, devotion by pari. Before there is a dialogue by a character he explains what exactly the character was thinking before they said what they said and why. So you get a complete picture of the thought process which really rounds out the entire character bringing certain 'richness' to them.

The second is witty dialogue; sometimes when you don't necessarily have to give a complete description of thought process, sometimes, the dialogue is enough. Fizzi's OS for example, 'Chronicles of a blue tie,' her dialogue is so rich, witty and full of humor that you get where the character is coming from. Her dialogues also portray sexual tension between the characters, which really draws you into the story, just like a real tv serial.

Some of the things that I have a hard time getting drawn into: only hindi dialogue written in English. For me it's really hard to read, now if it were in the script that would be easier. I don't mind a sentence here and there but for me it really takes away from the story when you're just trying to figure out what the word is.

Also, when things aren't organized like a book, for example, if you're writing a dialogue you need to break into a new paragraph from the narrative and then another one if you're writing a response in dialogue form or just a new narrative paragraph, when this isn't done it takes away from what is actually going on and you're stuck trying to find the flow.

Writers please don't take this criticism harshly; I don't have half the talent, imagination or guts to even attempt writing something. So I commend you on that greatly! It's just my general views on what makes reading a story easier, please do keep putting up fanfics, like I said at first, this forum has the best writers I've seen so far. Keep up the good work!

I'm so so ecstatic that you have mentioned my work here and also made it a point to bring out important turn-ons and turn-offs about a story.
You're descriptive writing in this post makes me wanna improve in a lot of things for example the last point - Using Hindi/Urdu in the story. I'll try to use that point in my next creation! :)
Iabsolutelyadore Adeeti, delena90, Rushitaa, Konpal, Asma Di, Raina, Ankie, and the list goes on!!! :D
Thank you for making this post!

Fizza bacha you are the only here who remembers that I can write as well.. 😭

The reason is we have INTERESTING characters that so much can be done with them. These are the best characters I have seen thus far on Indian television. They are funny and interesting...Zoya is someone who has something to say and Asad simply cracks us up with his serious oneliners. These two have REAL chemistry. I like them. I want to see more of them. This is one of the few shows I watch SIMPLY because of the jodi - even though this show has an super supporting cast and fabulous acting from Vidya Sinha and Alka Kaushal - and that tells you how well Gul and Mrinal have been in writing these characters. I think we need to create a post in future thanking them - I will do that later in the week.
