zoya is an NRI orphan, she was living with her sister, but has now come to india to find out about the father who left her when she was 3 (i think). all she has as clues are some burnt fotos.
she is staying in asad's home because asad's mom is her relative.. and zo's sister felt it was better for zo to live at a relative's house rather than in a hotel.
rashid had an affair with shireen and had ayan while still married to dilshad.. later, he brought ayan to dilshad, while she was pregnant with najma. D was sick as well as angry, so asad (he was some 7 or 8) was the one who took care of toddler ayan. (that is how the brothers bonded)
on the day of najma's first birthday, there was a problem at one doll factory and rashid was framed of murder.. and blackmailed by Siddiqi saab into divorcing dilshad and marrying shireen.. (shireen is mamujaan's mooh-boli-behen)
shireen loved rashid, had ayan (that part is still unexplained, but it was obviously an affair) .. she accepted that rashid loved dilshad and allowed ayan to be taken when he went back to dilshad.. she does not know about the blackmail.
she thinks rashid came back and married her because he loves her ..shireen had 2 more kids.. for 20years (i think) they lived like that comfortably.
in the beginning of the serial, it was shown that the stepkids did not talk to each other, rashid had absolutely no contact with dilshad.. but asad-ayan used to meet every day..then one day asad got hurt while defending ayan.. and the rest is the story.
