HEY guys! Back with another dissected analysis...This time it's the Lag Jaa Gale scene from MahaSangam episode Part 1. The scenes are in black, the lyrics in green and my analysis is in pink.
Yash is sitting down and Aarti comes in, Lag Jaa Gale song starts. "Lag Jaa Gale ke phir yeh haseen raath ho na ho. Shayaad phir is janam mein mulaaqat ho na ho." Here, Yash turns around and looks at her whilst in the background, Asad and Zoya come out and sit on the stairs. (It truly is a beautiful night for both couples, for ArYa they have gotten their son back whilst for AsYa, they have escaped from the troubles and are together, when they least expect it. Love is eternal, even if you don't get the one you love, you will get them in your next life. I'm not exactly sure about this but when in a Hindu marriage, don't they take 7 pheres symbolical of staying together for 7 lives? Similarly both couples, even if they aren't together for whatever circumstances, they will ALWAYS end up together. The fact that "Shayaad phir is janam mein mulaaqat ho na ho" is saying that we may not meet again, I think generally this just means to make up for what you already have: this beautiful night, and your loved ones. Because such night never comes again, so make good use of it. Enjoy it).
Asad walks down and Zoya abruptly does to. She hurts herself and takes the dupatta off slightly to show the blood. "Hum ko mile hai aaj yeh ghadiyaan naseeb se." (As soon as Zoya makes that hurt face, Asad keeps on looking at her hand right until she shows the blood and that's when he looks at her. I guess in some way this means that Asad will always care for those hurting no matter who that person is! He may not like Zoya openly but he does care about her!) Zoya looks at Asad and he looks away. (To me this is like he cares about her but his ego and his view on her gets in the way, hence he can't even have a proper conversation with her. The lyrics say that they have been given this day by destiny - symbolical that only God controls destiny hence no matter what Asad and Zoya are destined to be together. In link to the previous line about making the best of this beautiful night, maybe AsYa have been given this night to start anew. Remember how everyone thought they were a real couple? Maybe this is a link? Could this be the start of a new relationship?) Aarti and Yash going around, her smiling, him not looking away from her. (I quite like the contradiction; there's ArYa who have fallen in love after their marriage, and after problems and there's AsYa who have not yet fallen in love but their passion and hurt is pretty much evident. The way they are sat, with AsYa looking over ArYa, it's much like a future scene as if AsYa are looking at themselves. You could argue that Zoya is smiling, happy-go-lucky like Aarti but Asad as calm and passionate as Yash).
Asad pulls his hand with Zoya getting hurt. He slowly puts his hand down realising that she's hurt again. "Jee Bhar ke dekh leejiye hum ko kareeb se." (again a juxtaposition because the lyrics say one thing (to look closely) but Asad and Zoya are looking away. The lyrics are saying that to look at me closely to your hearts content, perhaps to get to know them? Ironic in AsYa's relationship because the most important thing they need is to know each other's pain! Asad needs to learn about Zoya and Zoya needs to learn about Asad! But here they are turning away, maybe they aren't ready yet. As they say, love just happens, but here trust is needed first which is difficult to get. They need to trust each other And THEN know each other in order to fall in love.
Yash pulls Aarti's dupatta and she turns around. "Phir aap ki naseeb mein yeh baat ho na ho." (Just a random thing, according to the promo Prashant asks Yash to give him Aarti for the sake of Ansh. Maybe this line is symbolical to them rather than AsYa? Because they might not see each other again.)
Zoya looks at ArYa whilst Asad then looks at Zoya. "Lag Jaa Gale." (It's like Zoya is watching a fairytale. You know the one with the girl and the prince. It's like she's looking for her prince charming which is THEN when Asad looks at her. Asad is her Prince Charming? As soon as she looks back, he turns away...This just shows that Yes, he is her Prince but there'll be a long time before both will have trust, both know each other and both be able to look at each other and confess.) Zoya stares at Asad whilst he looks onto the ground. (Again, like she knows that he's her Prince and she is trying to find ArYa in them).
Yash twirls Aarti and she falls into his arms. "Paas Aayie ke hum nahin aayenge baar baar." (The lyrics says to come closer to me as I won't be able to come to you every time...It's like Yash wants Aarti to be the first one to come to him, as in love wise. He wants her to love him openly just as he does, makes sense if you watch PV and he confessed before her and romances with her). Asad and Zoya look at ArYa whilst Zoya pushes her dupatta up with their handcuffed arm showing. (I quite like how this is shown in linking it to ArYa's part. AsYa are not looking at each other like ArYa are, which is you know, justified but it's the way their handcuffed arm is shown that linked very well to this line. Both are bounded together albeit through the help of the handcuff but what does this show? That they will be together, hand in hand, through the rest of their lives.
Yash pushes Aarti's hair back. "Baahein gale mein daal ke hum ro le zaar zaar." (The lyrics say put your arms around me and lets cry our hearts out. I wasn't quite sure what to say about this but then looking at the next line, I just have to say YES this was a ArYa line. They are husband and wives in true sense, they are together hence its justified for them to hug each other openly and cry their hearts out as opposed to AsYa. I'm not quite sure about why they have to cry but I think for the supposed separation track.)
Both Asad and Zoya look at ArYa. "Aankon se Phir yeh pyaar ki barsaath ho na ho." (again I'm not exactly sure on teh meaning of the lyrics but it's something along the lines of how from our eyes tears of love fall.) Asad and Zoya both look at each other. (I love how this is directly in line with the song just as "Phir Yeh Pyaar..." part starts, somehow I think about how much love there is within both of them, both Zoya and Asad are loveable and caring people but there's still a long way for them to fall in love with EACH OTHER. I somehow can't help but think about how there is so much the other needs to know about them and this is THE night to find out, to actually become friends - see previous points and lyrics-) Both ArYa and AsYa shown. (The way this is done is pretty clever, there's ArYa in the foreground and AsYa in the background but why? Because ArYa's love is shown whilst AsYa's is hidden). "Shayaad phir is janam mein mulaaqat ho na ho." (I know many of you have said what is AsYa are the ones that never see each other? But I don't think so. Firstly the first part of that line shows both of the couples together and then with AsYa looking at ArYa, for me this just shows that AsYa may not see ArYa, justified?)
Yash pulls Aarti in when on the bench whilst Asad accidently pulls Zoya in. ( I love this! He totally didn't mean to do this but yet Zoya came onto him, just shows that whatever he does - he will always be connected to her! You know what I said about looking for AsYa in ArYa? I couldn't help but think this about the pulling thing! "Lag Jaa Gale ke phir yeh haseen raath ho na ho. Shayaad phir is janam mein mulaaqat ho na ho." (I don't know exactly what to say about this line, because for me the whole "seperation" not being able to see again part is intended for ArYa as I've said before but maybe it's more along the lines of seeing the truth about each other, opening things up that is linked to AsYa. They need to "Lag Jaa Gale" because it's symbolical not to hug but to open up! That didn't make sense but whatever... I've read somewhere that when Asad finds out about Zoya's reason for replacing Mariam he will see the other side of her, could this link to my point?) Lag Jaa Gale again with Asad pulling Zoya's dupatta over her and staring at her. (I think this was such a small but essential step. It's like he's protecting her, by putting the dupatta on her which is a way of keeping your modesty, he does that for her! It's like he's symbolically saying that she is his! He keeps on looking at her, Asad is infatuated with her and yes, the way he looks with such intent, it's like he wants to know her but it's Zoya who turns away. Maybe he will be the first one to fall in love?)
