Mami...Sheilamami

We have started seeing seasons of popular shows like KMH season 2 & NBTMKK season 2. Now, one of the popular general entertainment channels which pioneered saas-bahu sagas centered on kitchen politics, which made viewers forget about real world politics, wants to start a new trend in the spirit of its tagline. They have decided to introduce Indian viewers to the concept of spin-off series which is well-explored in the Western TV world. [In media, a spin-off is a radio program, television program, video game, or any narrative work, derived from one or more already existing works, that focuses, in particular, in more detail on one aspect of that original work (e.g. a particular topic, character, or event) (Source: Wikipedia)].

This idea originated seeing the rising popularity of the character of Sheila Diwan in a prime time show. Sheila who is mami of the main protagonist has surprisingly turned out to be a crowd-puller. The show runs around Sheila mami's antics. Remaining characters run hither-thither to escape the web created by Sheila mami. Her charismatic screen-presence, acting prowess and mysterious smile has won over viewers. Observing this interesting phenomenon, the channel has decided to launch a series of shows with Sheila mami as the main protagonist. Different shows in the series will concentrate on different time-periods of Sheila's life.

First show will concentrate on Sheila's childhood. Her childhood friend Kammo, who makes occasional appearances in the current show, will play a strong supporting character in the show. The show is tentatively titled 'Dholpur ki Sheila'. The first episode is supposed to be about how Sheila with help of her friend Kammo saves her town Dholpur from aliens.

Another show will concentrate on a teenage Sheila – 'Sheila aur Kammo ke karnaamein'. It is 'inspired' from Nancy Drew series. Viewers will come to understand how and when Sheila developed her detective skills, resourcefulness, cunning, and her daredevil attitude.

And, the final show in the series will tell story of Sheila who enters Diwan mansion as a new bride, finds it quite different from her expectations and vows to fix every wrong in her life. Tentative title is 'Sheila ki Kahani..Sheila ki Zubaani'.

Rumour has it that the music director duo Vishal & Shekhar ('Shiela ki Jawani' and 'Chhoti ungli pe nachayengi tumhe, Ye hain small-town girl' fame) have been roped in to compose title songs for all the shows.

The series will launch of April 1^st.

My daughter would love Sheila the Alien fighter and Sheila as Nancy Drew. I think the last spin off...how Sheila became the Dewan Bahu will be a big TRP puller Hindi Serial...
