I will answer reffering to The Vampire diaries

Its like a vampire bite a human = he dies if the wound is fatal.
vampire just takes some blood = only a wound will appear on the person.

the human feeds of vampire blood and dies within 24 hours = he /she wud b converted to vampire

now u will b confused how can a human drink a vampire blood .
The answer is tht the vampire have to either compel the human (in TVD vampires have a power to compel humans) or else the human willingly takes vampire blood ..like during love bite etc etc .

What I understood after watching Twilight is:

If vampires drink all the blood in the body then the person dies, if the vampires just bite them and allow their poison to dissolve in human blood then the person becomes a vampire.
