Part Ten
"Why are relationships so complicated?" Aarti asked.
After a pause she continued, "How do I read his poker face? I wish I can get into his head and find out what he is thinking. "
Vidhi laughed. "Laugh all you want, I could end up single and alone all my life," Aarti said annoyed with her friend's reaction and slumped herself into the sofa.
"Aarti you always make a mountain out of a molehill, maybe he is just not ready yet," Vidhi said.
Aarti gritted her teeth and said, "Maybe he just doesn't want to marry me."
Pankaj walked into the room, "Aarti... I overhead what you were saying, well you were quiet loud. Here is the thing, Yash's parents and mine were keen to get Yash and Ishita married but Yash wasn't interested at all."
Aarti listened attentively to this new piece of information and he added, "Obviously the reason was you and when his parents found out they threw a fit because you are a ..."
"A divorcee," she answered for him.
"His father threatened to disown him but Yash didn't bow down," Pankaj said.
Aarti was totally bowled over, she took her keys and immediately left Vidhi's place.
"He must really love me to fight for me," Aarti said to herself. "He has done a lot for me and now it's my turn."
Aarti tried calling on his phone but was unsuccessful, she decided to go to his house and look for him. She rode her scooter and mid-way it rained heavily. She carried on until she reached his place feeling a little bit awkward seeing her condition all drenched. A servant opened the door and later went to call Yash when she asked for him.
He was surprised to see her nevertheless he pulled her in and took her to his room. He took out a towel and gave it to her to dry herself.
"You know Aarti sometimes you do the craziest things," Yash said.
"You act impulsively and you always tend to let whatever that is in your head come out without thinking about the consequences," he added.
"But you like me just the way I'm," Aarti threw back at him.
He sighed and gave a loop-sided smile. He took the towel from her and started to dry her hair. Aarti eyes roved slowly around the room and caught a picture frame on his bed-side table. She went towards the table and picked up the frame.
"This picture is during Pankaj-Vidhi wedding, how come it is here," she asked.
He took the frame from her and put it back, "It is mine I asked the camera man to take a picture of you. You looked amazing on that day."
"Why didn't you tell me so?" Aarti asked.
"Some things should be felt not spoken," Yash answered.
"You see that is the problem, when you don't say anything I start assuming things," Aarti said.
"There is only one way to shut you up now," he said.
She saw him getting closer and felt her beating so fast as his eyes were pinning her down. The room door opening broke their bliss and they moved away from each other.
"Yash bhaiya," the intruder called and then surprised to see Aarti said, "Oh! I'm sorry I didn't know you had a guest." She said, all the while sifting her gaze back and forth between Yash and Aarti.
"I know you must be Aarti bhabhi, I'm Paridhi. I saw you at Pankaj bhaiya's wedding." Aarti blushed at the mention of bhabhi.
She saw how Aarti's wet clothes were clinging to her body and said, "Bhabhi, come to my room I will give you a change of clothes." Aarti followed her.
After Aarti changed into dry clothes, Paridhi asked, "Why don't you stay for dinner, maa and bauji are out they will be back by then?"
"I don't think that is a good idea," Aarti replied.
No amount cajoling worked on Aarti until Yash came by and told her to stay.
"The ball is in your court, you do something win them over if you can," Yash smirked at Aarti to take up the challenge.
Aarti surely took that challenge and it was a difficult task initially, slowly but surely she managed to make a place in their hearts. Finally the pros outweighed the cons, they discussed with her parents and set the wedding date.
On the wedding day, Vidhi was helping Aarti to get ready.
"Can you believe it three months ago you were in my place doing this for me and now ..." They were interrupted by a knock on the day.
"Aarti... please hurry the panditji is calling," Shobha said anxiously.
Vidhi quickly put the dupatta on her head and used pins to keep it at its place. They were almost done and about to leave when someone barged into their room.
"Prashant... How did you get here with all this people around and why are you even here?" Aarti asked and gestured at Vidhi to stand guard at the door lest anyone should come in and find her in a compromising situation.
"Aarti... forget about marrying Yash and come with me," Prashant said.
Aarti looked at him in disbelief and chuckled at his audacity.
Meanwhile Yash who was getting anxious got up from the mandap and headed to search for Aarti. He saw a fidgety Vidhi at the door and knew something was wrong. He went in and saw Prashant holding Aarti's hand. Aarti didn't want Yash to misinterpret the situation she pushed his hand away and moved away from him.
"Aarti ... Both of us are so alike, we had so much fun together. Do you think you can be happy with Yash?" Prashant questioned her.
Aarti looked at Yash after which Yash said, "I'll wait outside for you."
Aarti held on to Yash's arm and said, "No...No... We are going out together."
Then she looked at Prashant and added, "All my life I was looking for that something extraordinary and I have found it with Yash."
Vidhi was relieved to see Yash and Aarti coming out together. She led the way and the three of them walked to the mandap.
Yash whispered to Aarti, "Are you ready to be Mrs Aarti Yash Schindia?" She nodded.
