Why do the Scindhiyas want their bahus (daughters in law) to do all the house and kitchen work when they appear to be so wealthy and have domestic help?

Some people despite of being rich, prefer to cook on their own. It's just that some families follow the tradition they have seen in their families for ages.

Here in Scindia house it's not like DIL has to cook, they are fine with the thought of servants cooking the food. But all they want is their DIL must supervise everything at least, be around always, take care of their in-laws, husbands, kids needs and for that they must be present in the house all day. They are of a thinking that managing the house is the core job of all DIL's, of their house at least.

i think they belong to the old rich, usually these folks are do-it-yourself and traditional in values..now we see the nouveau rich paying anyone to do things for themselves and really living like sky is the limit😊

Well I dont think its a great prob for the DILs.What is wrong if a family wishes that their DILs take care of their hubbies and children personally.Here in Scindia's it is only supervision not the whole work.

It's all bcoz of their tradition and a girl must stay within the house as a respectful girl after her marriage.

For some of the families, the kitchen/cooking is, for the lack of better word, "holy". So the servants do everything but the cooking.

Also, in the old times, it was done so because food would be the easiest way to poison a rich person. so a competitor/enemy could send in a servant loyal to him as a cook. thus the tradition of only the women of the household cooking..
