Divya was back to being honest - to herself, to Gaurav, to Raj and Kamla. That got me wondering - was she ever dishonest even when she lied to Raj (about Sarita's impending death)? We all know that her intent and her feelings were always honest. We all thought her lying to Raj was against the character and morally wrong. But today when I thought back I realized that maybe she did it because it was the right thing to do. Being honest is not exactly a function of speaking the absolute truth always. She wanted Raj to confront the guilt and accountabilities he was ignoring for a long long time. We also know that Raj values life and understands physical hurt and danger far better than emotional abuse. So, maybe lying to him is the only thing that would have worked and since Divya honestly wanted things to work out, she lied.
I faced something a little similar last week - I needed to start my 2 year old kid in playgroup. First 2 days were a nightmare, he howled and screamed and I was in tears myself (listening to his cries from outside his school gate) and picked him up pretty quickly. I had almost decided to drop the idea for now when his teacher asked me to stay with him at school for next 2 days. I did that. After those 2 days, I told my kid that I was going to use the washroom, even handed him my car keys (which his teacher later smuggled to me). We continued this way for next 3 days - my kid was very secured thinking I was close by and happily mingled with his teachers and other kids. Yesterday, I told him I needed to go for grocery shopping and would return pretty quickly to get him - he was completely okay with that. So, that little lie prevented a lot of sorrow and tears both for my kid and me. It was lying but was it a betrayal and morally incorrect?
Isn't that similar to what Divya did. With purest of intentions, she did what would work. I personally don't think she was ever dishonest. And I absolutely loved when she broke her Gaurva's engagement. It would have been very dishonest to marry him in her current state.
Coming to Sarita - from a woman blinded by her own pain, immersed completely in her own goals, she became this new person who acknowledged others, was decisive and no longer afraid to face the world. Though her world continues to revolve around Raj and her asking Raj to select a groom for her does not sit well with me, I can live with it. After all, evolution is life long process, you can't have all of it in a day.
She wants Raj's happiness, no two ways about that but I don't think she is disregarding Divya's feelings either. Haven't we all accused her of being oblivious to Divya's pain - well today she wasn't. Hasn't Divya herself given enough hints that she is not over Raj (by confessing to Sarita how tough it was for her, by rushing to Raj's first-aid when she saw him in pain, by multiple slips about how she and Raj used to be)? I think Sarita was trying to do for Divya what Divya had tried to do earlier. She wanted to give back their lives (exactly as it would have been if Sarita wasn't there). Her disregard for Gaurav was jarring, but so was Divya's lack of concern when she had walked out of her wedding without any prior explanation. Maybe, since Gaurav is not a main character, CVs consider his fate and feelings inconsequential. So, both female leads act accordingly 😊.
I also loved that she voiced what she wanted and is no longer trying to hide anything from others - out of fear or embarrassment. This Sarita is far easier to fall in love with. In fact, I had always sympathized with Sarita - today I really liked her.
Since I am in admiring and forgiving mode, I will not talk about others including Raj of course 😃
