NEW DELHI: NDTV Limited on Monday announced plans to open a new entertainment channel by the year-end. At a press conference here on Monday, NDTV Chairman Prannoy Roy said the upcoming venture, NDTV Imagine, was a dream-come-true for him. ''For the past 20 years I have been aspiring to open a full-fledged mass entertainment channel that is original in its concept. The Indian cinema and entertainment industries have undergone a huge transformation. I have known Sameer Nair for so many years and I think he will the best person to create something special for our upcoming channel that all of us can be proud about. He is an outstanding leader who with his creative genius has transformed mass entertainment. The channel will be a brilliant one and also extremely sensitive,'' he said. Dr. Roy has also roped in noted filmmaker Karan Johar. ''I have always admired Karan Johar as he is single-handedly responsible for the transformation of Indian cinema. Karan will be a partner in our venture," said Dr. Roy.Mr. Nair said he was really excited to come over to Dr. Roy's channel from Star Entertainment. ''By December we will launch our new channel that will have soap operas, movies and entertainment-laced programmes. We will be working with Dharma Productions to develop new ideas,'' said Mr. Nair. Two more channels would be launched, he said without elaborating.
