Prithvi Raj – Sanyogita This Painting artistically mirrors the scene of bloody battle that took place between the ar my of Prithvi raj Chauhan, the ruler of Ajmer, and that of Jayachand , the ruler of Kanauj in north India. Because of Prithvi raj's growing power Jaya chand was extremely jealous of his valour and extending Kingdom. The bitterness in Jaya chand's heart against Prithvi raj's fast growing popularty power was further hightend and because of romance between Jaya chand's daughter Sanyogeta and Prithvi raj . Sanyogita had already wooed Prithvi raj's as her would be husband. This situation was naturally intolerable for Jaya chand. In order to do away with this romantic relationship between the lover and the beloved Jaya chand firmly made up his mind to hold Swayamwar in which Prithvi raj was not invited as one of the aspirants to win the hand of his daughter. The sole purpose behind this swayamwar was to subject Prithvi raj to dire humiliation and shame ful direct insult of Prithvi raj. To add fuel to fire Jaya chand put an ugly statue of Prithvi raj at the gate of Swayamwar Hall. Being faithful and devoted to her lover Sanyogata had aired her father's malicious plan and secretly invited Prithvi raj for her elopment during the ceremony of Swayamwar. Consequently Prithvi raj accompained by his handful fighters reached in time, eloped Sanyogita on his horse back. There upon Prithvi raj was hotly pursued by the horse men of Jaya chand. But it was all in vain because their advance was checked and obstructed by the fighter of Prithvi Raj. It is this dreadful . Mean while Prithvi Raj made away with Sanyogita reaching quite safely his royal palace. It is this dreadful combat between the two forces that has been depictedi in this painting.
