How saiyara became hit
I agree completely that Mona should not have to remarry Adtiya, as he is her brother-in-law, and I believe that this "rule" is morally 😕 and emotionally 🥺 incorrect. .. but fact remains that traditionally, widows in Hinduism were required to follow one of the following in order to serve their penitence:
1. Sati ritual (self-sacrifice into the last cremation pyre) 🤢
2. Remarriage with their brother-in-law (to provide an heir to their husband's family, if they haven't already had a son) 😒
3. Life without a soul (complete penance by becoming a nun and giving their full attention into serving God) 😭
In my opinion, a better storyline would be that Mona moves on and establishes her career 🤓 and focuses on helping her family stay strong-hearted in Anukalp's abcense. This could help teach the conservative people in rural India to become more open minded about modern day widows. 😊
