Unfortunately violence against women not only happens in the Indian subcontinent but also in many other parts of the word. In some African contries r*** is used as a weapon of war. Even in the USA it happens in some areas. But the saddest part is that many of these atrocities againt women are done by other women. Take the case of Pratigya. In that household it is Amma that mistreat her the most. And also when women stand up for themselves it is other women who try to put them down. In my POV ,unless we as women support each other these atrocites are going to continue.

Agree with you, word for word. I live in the UK so know violence against women happen all over the world. I was referring to the black face (first I knew of from the show) which denotes shame, usually the sub-continent....I've heard of acid on the face though..😔...again prevalent in the indian sub-continent...😡😡

I also learned of this for the first time from Pratigya. In my POV the friendship day violence has more to do more with politics. India has become of a melting pot that the conservative feel like it is loosing its identity. Many view these kind of celebrations as a western custom. So the politician are trying to incite the conservative for their own selfish political reasons. Hoping to get their votes.

I completely agree with you such atrocities against women is prevalent throughout the world, This issue has always shocked me though how it is usually the women in any society who are prepared to blame each other for being kidnapped, raped, beaten etc. I have found that most men sympathize with the women who have been subjected to violence, while women taunt them. Of course though the men are usually the reason behind the woman's pain, and most feel no regret while there are also women like us(though very few) who are able to understand the women was not at fault and had no control over the situation. I find this aspect very realistic in this show amma represents the proportion of women in most societies who beleive that no matter what the situation the women was somehow responsible for it, and find pleasure in crushing their already faltered self respect. I agree women should first be able to understand one anothers pain and be willing to help each other before anything can be done about this issue.

@ Binny, That is the sole reason why I support the character Pratigya. See when women brand goons as heroes and thinks that what they do is the product of their up bringing makes it even more difficult to fight against such perceptions.

The reason I watch Pratigya. is because it shows a woman fighting for her selfrespect. But I am very surprised at the bashing she receives for it.
