i think it is bec. pratigya wants her own identity, if she wants to be called by her name then no other name can be forced on her. if she asks the family members to call her pratigya and they refuse, then it will be wrong.

I agree a name identifies a person, but with circumstances, people change and adjust accordingly...Maybe they can call her pratigya bahu..but knowing what the environment is like at the Thaukur's place...she should perhaps take it slowly...her name is Pratigya,, she should do Pratigya like things and fight for Justice..

New people give new names, new nickname...your husband might start calling you sweetpums all the time instead of your name...sometimes it just shows love, shows a different attachment, different relations..get what i mean?

that is different, do you think she is being called by this name out of love? No.
it is because like SS said, bec. women don't have any identity in their home and no woman is known by her name. this is exactly why Pratigya should stick to her name, see what has happened with Kesar. will you accept to forget your name after marriage?
