Today, our hand was forced, literally so, by events unfolding in other parts of the world, to address this delicate subject matter.
Today of all the days, we have a teenager at the centre of a ravaging storm in Kansas City, who tried to take her life post the traumatic rape that she was a victim of on Jan 8th along with her best friend. Anon News Network mentions that she could may be have a brain injury from her suicide attempt. Daisy Coleman is a brave young woman and we wish her all the best. It's only due to the efforts of Anonymous with #justice4daisy that her case was taken up. Here is her spirited letter in her own words: http://www.xojane.com/it-happened-to-me/daisy-coleman-maryville-rape
Closer home, in India we've had the Nirbhaya case that has taken the nation by storm in recent times.
It's not like the incidence of rape is new in India or the world over, a United Nations report from government sources showed that more than 250,000 cases of rape or attempted rape are recorded by police annually in over 65 countries with United States and India sitting at the top of the heap. National shame!
What shames us is that the incidence of rape is still treated as some taboo and the burden of proof still seems to lie with the victim in most cases, and in a few cases it seems like there are forces at work to pin the blame on someone or the other without any sort of real effort in finding the real culprits and in some cases the rapists go scot-free as either they are protected by the powerful or familial love.
Ek Boond Ishq
In the show, the central crime seems to be that of RAPE and MURDER and it's also being shown that Mrityunjay is not the real culprit and that he is taking the blame for someone else.
Now, here comes the crux of the matter. This "sacrifice" is no-sacrifice. We all know in film and literature, how the chief protagonist or the hero is shown to have one big flaw or Achilles Heel. This then is the Achilles Heel of Mrityunjay. This injustice to the real victim due to his fanatical "love" or "obsession" to protect someone due to some promise he has made or is forced to make to his adopted mother, which has made him lose his perspective and integrity to truth.
Mrityunjay's real problem is not Tara or what she is doing. It is actually what SHE STANDS FOR, which is truth and the truth of his being. He knows that he is in the wrong because of his excessive love and that he is not standing on the side of right by protecting the culprits and TARA is being the mirror to his soul and is his conscience keeper that is questioning his conscience, which is not willing to accept this flawed thinking in him. He does not want this reality check as his hand is played by forces that are more powerful than his conscience, that of misplaced loyalty and misguided love.
But for Mrityunjay, it will ultimately be his fight against his emotions towards his adopted mum versus his own righteousness and willingness to stand for truth, which is represented by TARA's spirited defence of him. Jaag uthega uski mann ki awaaz...tab tak hai intezaar...for justice, truth and fairplay to come into play and for emotional atyachaar to make way...until then, keep watching Ek Boond Ishq at 8:30 PM IST on Life Ok TV
