ARSHAD WARSI: Only Shahrukh Khan and sex don't sell in Bollywood

The month of January is set to be one of the most critical ever in the career of Arshad Warsi. He has two films lined up in back to back weeks with MR. JOE B. CARVALHO followed by DEDH ISHQIYA. While former is pitched as a clean family entertainer, latter is an adult drama.

Meanwhile it is quite apparent that MR. JOE B. CARVALHO is as goofy as it gets.

"Well, for starters it is not vulgar. I have heard that only Shahrukh Khan and sex sells. Perhaps for many out there it is right too. However, I would really like us to move out of this thought because I personally feel that isn't the case. I will tell you something. As a kid, I remember watching ANGOOR with my dad. We could watch it comfortably as a family affair. However today, I can never take my son out for a film unless it is a cartoon film. There is absolutely no Hindi film where all family members can watch it together without seeing the other way. However MR. JOE B. CARVALHO is one saaf-suthri film," says Arshad.

One does get an impression of it being on the lines of Austin Powers and Johnny English films, albeit sans crudity.

"No, that's not the case," defends Arshad, "See, I will tell you the truth. If you look at it, pretty much everything has been done in the world of movies. To come up with something brand new is practically impossible. So whatever you do, there will be some similarity and comparison. It cannot be avoided."
