Last few days have been sort of great storytelling to bad storytelling that is oversimplified, with way too obvious analogies from mythologicals.
We least expect this of a good storyteller that they are too obvious. All good stories are based on the premise that the consumer is "intelligent" and very much "clued-in", so instead of just dumbing it down and drilling it in dialogue after dialogue that "yes, we want our chief protagonist to be xyz" or that "our story is now borrowing from xyz story of the past", a good storyteller always leaves it to the end user to use their brains, fathom it on their own and draw conclusions on their own.
No one, and I emphasize, no good storyteller makes it so cut-and-dried or so plain to the end user, it becomes boring when one tries to shove it down people's throats as to how their character is ONLY THIS.
You ought to always leave room for the viewer to keep on guessing. A good storyteller never, NEVER stops playing a game with the viewer's thought process. That is why it is called ENGAGING.
You have to engage the user, engage the user's consciousness, engage their perception, engage their mind, heart, soul. That is when your story reaches their heart and soul and dances (naach re basanti) on the edge, periphery of their consciousness and seizes control of it.
That is how Ek Boond Ishq started off, that is how it captured viewer interest, that is how it sort of created a space for itself in the viewer's mind and heart. That is how it sustained and continued to sustain interest.
Now, off late, that is what is missing. That is what has gone "tel lene."
A too-obvious reference point, a too-oversimplified STORY DEVICE has really taken away the punch and fizz from the champagne that was bubbly, lively and a worthy concoction that was the viewer's delight. Now, it seems like just dry days once again...though, Ek Boond Ishq still retains the essence and the colors that can make it a bubbly froth again. It's time for the makers to put some heart and soul in their storytelling and remember the fact that "the CONSUMER KNOWS the SCORE" don't try to teach them something new pouring old wine into new bottles...fresh up, and revive the magic...even if you feel that vintage wine is the best wine, yet, still, caution tells us that only bottled wine of some years from some wineries is considered to be vintage and NOT all old wine is considered vintage.
Also, may be, it's not wine that is everyone's favorite drink and may be your original bubbly was something else.
What if, you originally promised to deliver and setup yourselves with providing Highend Champagne but then got sidetracked into the wine business?
Gettitt now! Move on to your original tagline and stop trying to tap into trampled markets, no matter what your marketing whizzs forecast. Learn that it is not those that follow the herd that manage to create a niche for themselves but those that buckle the trend.
Ek Boond Ishq is not set out to follow the trend but is setup to be it's own master. Let it loose...
