Pakistan cricketers heading home

A number of Pakistan's cricket players are expected to return to the country on Tuesday after the murder of coach Bob Woolmer and shock World Cup exit. At least two players, Younis Khan and Mohammad Yousuf, have already landed in the southern port city of Karachi. All the Pakistan team members were questioned by Jamaican police in connection with the murder of Woolmer. Woolmer was found strangled in his hotel room after Pakistan's surprise World Cup loss to Ireland on 17 March. Mounting troubles Pakistan team members stopped over in London en route for home after leaving the West Indies at the weekend. Most of them are expected back on Tuesday, although some could arrive later on Wednesday, a Pakistan Cricket Board spokesman told the Associated Press (AP) news agency. "Some players will come to Karachi, while some will reach Lahore," the spokesman said. Angry fans greeted vice-captain Younis Khan and Mohammad Yousuf in Karachi as they walked out of the arrivals terminal late on Monday, AP reports.

The team are said to be 'traumatised' by Woolmer's murder
While Mohammad Yusuf was able to get away, Khan was involved in an altercation with slogan-chanting fans. "Bring a donkey for him and ask him to sit on it and roam around the city," AP quoted one irate fan as shouting at the airport. Pakistan's troubles began with the early exit from the tournament at the hands of minnows Ireland. A day later came the shock of Woolmer's death. The former England Test cricketer was found unconscious in his room and died on the way to hospital. Police later confirmed that he had been murdered. Their investigation is continuing. 'Traumatised' There has been speculation that the murder is connected to match-fixing allegations which have haunted cricket for the past decade. Several Pakistan players were fined and banned from the game after being found guilty of match-fixing by a judicial commission in the late 1990s.

Woolmer was coach of South Africa's cricket team when four of its players were also fined and banned for similar activities. One of them, Hansie Cronje, then captain of South Africa and Woolmer's close friend, was banned for life and later died in a plane crash. Meanwhile, the Pakistani government has urged the international media to take a softer line on the Pakistan team. "Our players are already traumatised and they have lost somebody who was very close to them, who was very dear to them," a foreign ministry spokesperson told AP.

The Pakistan team was allowed to leave Jamaica after being questioned. So far no suspects have been named by the police.

u know wat yesterday i saw younis at the airport on the news!!! u wont believe how the ppl were pushing and shoving him!! he was sweating so much and panicing! it was a bit funny cuz the news reporter kept on running after younis and younis kept on talking fast cuz of the situation and tried his best to run away from the ppl! 😆 but, i felt bad in a way but the scene was a bit funny........ poor younis was waiting for his brother to pick him up and he had to go thru all that crowd and it was bad! ppl were pushing him on purpose and he was all alone as he came earlier than the rest of the team, and as soon as the car came he ran as fast as he cud..... 😆.. i never even saw him panic lyk that! omg, it was sad and a bit funny cuz the news reporter made it sound so funny!

the reporter was like, everybody back off, back off.. younis is our hero... and the ppl kept on saying no hes not! no hes not 😆 the ppl were acting like children! .... and kept on saying negative things.... so it was a chaos at the airport for one pak cricketer! but at the end i felt bad, cuz its too immature!

oh boy! i wish the rest of the pak players cum home safely, cuz younis's situation was a bit scary!

Thats really funny. But people should not behave like this. Who told the reporters that he was coming? Could not they go without anyone knowing about them. I tell you, the reporters are the worest. All they want is sell stories and situations like this.

But they shudn't be so immuture...afterall he is not the only one to blame for loosing.... just wondeing wot has been going through in the player's life... they lost and they havn't even came out from bob's death...this has been a traumatic year for them... and now they have to face media and the crowd.... ....
