Another interesting year is on the verge of ending with a lot of changes and repetitions that took place in the Telly town.
TRPs changing to TVTs was the major shift that took place in 2013. Like last year, this year too saw a fire out burst on the sets of a popular comedy show.
Producers kept on experimenting with concepts while audiences still rule the roost when deciding which show to accept or which show to show the door. TOI once again compiles a list of those shows which ruled millions of hearts and few unnoticed shows which went off air.
Let's start with the shows which created a niche in the Telly world this year. The first show we would like to mention is none other thanComedy Nights with Kapil. The show clicked with audiences since its conception but grabbed headlines only after a fire outburst chapter that took place, followed by the exit of celebrated character Gutthi. Despite major changes, the show is still enjoyed and appreciated by the audience and is expected to continue ruling millions of hearts for a longer term.
Post non-fiction comedy show, Comedy Nights... lets move to fiction shows and one cannot forget Ekta Kapoor when it comes to daily soaps, isn't it? Once again this year, Ekta Kapoor proved that her concepts though tried once can be appreciated by the audiences again. She presented the story of Jodha Akbar as 'old wine in a new bottle' and it worked.
The next show would be Mahabharat, the tried and tested concept once again worked with this show resulting in the highest number of rating in its opening episodes despite less promotional activity.
There are few other shows on TV which continued to rule the roost with their charm like Diya Aur Baati Hum, Kaun Banega Crorepati, Dance India Dance season, Bigg Boss 7, Pyaar Ka Dard Hai Meetha Meetha Pyaara Pyaara, Nach Baliye and Devon Ke Dev...Mahadev.
Now let's take a look on shows which failed to grab eye balls and bombed due to low TVT ratings.
One cannot forget Bollywood sexy siren Mallika Sherawat's much talked show The Bachelorette India-Mere Khayalon Ki Mallika. In spite of having big fat promotions, it failed to garner good numbers. The show though made headlines as one cannot ignore Mallika Sherawat and her blunt statements but The Bachelorette which was an Indian version of the international show failed to match up the Indian audience.
The next show would be Chhanchhan which was launched with much pomp and fun fair considering the show marked the return of popular TV actress Sanaya Irani. But it proved that its not always the actor who attracts the audience. Punar Vivah season two too failed in the TVT race as compared to its season one ratings, starring Gurmeet Chaodhary and Krutika Sengal.
The much hyped Connected Hum Tum anchored by Abhay Deol kept the audiences glued with its engaging concept in its initial episodes, but failed to grab attention in the latter part. SimilarlyTota Weds Maina which was considered as the return of Kavita Kaushik to SAB TV after she exited from her acclaimed show F.I.R, failed and didn't sustain for more than three months. This show which also starred Gaurav Gera, gave an opportunity to other channels to rope Gaurav, who was not visible on the small screen for a long time. And that's how Pammi Pyarelalhappened to the actor. However, the show for which the actor had put in a lot of efforts to fit in the character, bombed and made way for Bigg Boss season 7.
Nautanki Theatre, a show judged by Tushar Kapoor and Neha Dhupia ended soon due to no response from the audiences. For the uninitiated, the Comedy Nights...sets which caught fire was none other than the set that was earlier occupied by Nautanki Theatre.
There are few more shows like Khoobsurat, Hum Aapke Hai In Laws, Junoon which completes the list of unlucky shows. They were dumped and bombed this year.
