Chapter Six

(Two weeks later...)

After that day, Jin Yeon kept popping up everywhere, disturbing me nonstop and trying to get me to listen to what she had to say. But I evaded her time and time again it was the only way to just ignore and just pretend as if everything was okay.

"Perhaps it's not a dream."Jin Yeon said.

I kept contemplating it over and over and everything was too real.

I finally decided or rather I finally accepted that it wasn't a dream.

But I decided that maybe I imagined the whole accident. Maybe everything was just a figment of my imagination.

"But Shraddha that is not possible. Everything happened. Just that I sent you back," Jin Yeon said.

"You keep saying that you sent me back. Sorry if I find that really, really, hard to believe," I questioned.

"It's okay if you still find it hard to believe but I did send you back...approximately before everything got screwed up between the two of you," she said.

"You mean between Kunal and I?"

"Come on now, if you know what I'm saying don't repeat it, we need to figure out where she is and if she made contact with him yet?" she murmured the last half of her sentence.

"What, who are you talking about? She? Who is she? Who made contact with Kunal?" I said annoyed and confused.

"Nothing...I said I sent you back ten months before the accident. It's not your imagination and it's not a dream. This is real. This is your life Shraddha and what you do here and now determines how long you want to continue enjoying that life with Kunal and Dhruv. If you don't listen and if we don't do anything, in ten months you will lose Dhruv and Kunal all over again. This time I won't be able to intervene," she said sternly.

I wanted to deny the logic but the date couldn't lie.

It was January, January 25 of 2013 and it was true.

No matter how hard it was for me to understand for me to realize and rationalize everything, things were playing out largely how I remember it. All the things that were happening were happening the exact same way if not more so.

It was almost ten, ten months before anything happened, before the fighting, before the accusations I had about Kunal...

Oh God...this was too much...

My sanity was...there wasn't much left and it was too much to handle.

"I know it's hard to understand everything...but we don't have time. This is serious Shraddha, very serious," she said.

"If that woman is already close to Kunal then we must find a way to stop her before things happen, before she does anything to Kunal," Jin Yeon said.

Hearing what she said and understanding what she said were two different things.

There was a part that was willing to agree and go along with what she saying...but the other part...with everything that was happening...things were just too messed up to believe what she said.

But if I can just accept everything else, why can't I just accept what she is saying as well?

Ugghhh my thoughts were betraying me.

I sighed and Dhruv started tugging my arm.

"Come on mama, we are going to be late. Ishaan uncle said he got the new game," Dhruv said.

It was a weekend and Dhruv and I was visiting mata ji and papa ji because Dhruv wanted to "desperately" play a video game with Ishaan. Kunal wanted to come but his assistant called him for a last minute contract.

"Please mama...Ishaan promised that he was going to play video games with me," Dhruv said.

He was looking at me with the same puppy eyes that Kunal always wore when he always wanted something or when he was trying to pacify me when I was angry at him.

"You are picking up too much from your father..." I murmured.

He just turned it up even more and couldn't resist.

"Okay, okay we will go visit unless you promise that you will finish your homework and you will clean your room," I said.

He pouted.

"But mom I won't have time to..."

I looked at him.

"Then I guess no video..."

"Okay mama I will clean it plus I will finish all my homework," Dhruv quickly said.

I smiled and kissed him on the head.

"Okay then, hurry up to your room and I will come help you take a shower," I said.

In less than an hour we were at papa and mama's house.

Once we knocked on the door and one of the servants open the door and I smiled and said hello and Dhruv did the same.

"Is mama and papa hom..." before I could get the words out Ishaan was already running towards us and developed me into a bear hug before he lifted me up.

"Didi! It's been forever since you last came," Ishaan said while he was spinning me around.

I laughed and smiled.

"Okay, Ishaan...put me down," I said laughing.

He smiled and he put me down.

Before Dhruv could say anything Ishaan did the same and Dhruv laughed.

I smiled at Dhruv while squeezing his nose.

Ishaan was looking behind me and his face twisted in confusion...and disappointment.

"Where is Kunal?" Ishaan said while balancing Dhruv while looking at me.

"A last minute call on some contract or whatever...he wanted to come but he couldn't," I said smiling.

"That sucks," Ishaan said

"Where is mama and papa?" I asked looking around.

Ishaan laughed while playing around with Dhruv.

"Papa and mama went out for lunch. Papa surprised mama yesterday so you know..." Ishaan said wiggling his eyebrows.

I whacked him on the arm and he laughed.

"What about Ashish and Anand?"

"Ashish went somewhere with Jaya, while Anand...he is trying his hardest to avoid Kittu," Ishaan said.

At the mention of her name Ishaan...

If I didn't know any better I would say that fear was in his eyes but when I looked it disappeared as soon as it came.

"Where is Kittu?" I asked confused.

"Kittu...she is in the kitchen with Mithra they are both cooking.

"Ishaan uncle lets hurry," Dhruv said becoming impatient.

Ishaan laughed.

"Okay," Ishaan said winking at Dhurv.

"Didi I will be playing with this little guy if you need us just call," Ishaan said winking and walked away with Dhruv playing with him and they were both laughing.

I smiled.

"You will lose them both" Jin Yeon voice echoed.

I shook my thoughts away and I went to the kitchen and saw Kittu trying to balance Mithra on her arm while trying to calm her down, while trying to talk to someone over the phone.

I saw Malika sitting at the table busy peeling vegetables and she looked up and saw me.

"Shraddha!" she said excited that she quickly got up, almost dropping the knife on herself.

"Be careful!" I said quickly.

Luckily the knife landed on the edge of the plate she was using.

"Shraddha!" Malika said and she quickly rushed over and gave me a hug.

"Malika..."I said sternly while pointing at her stomach.

Malika was married to Ishaan and was seven months pregnant.

She and Ishaan were going to have their first child after a year of tying the knot.

Jaya always remark that she never understood how the two ever fell for one another but it was more than obvious that she was able to calm down Ishaan from his impulsive and rash behavior. She was just as goofy and outgoing as Ishaan but she was sensible enough in knowing how to dispel a situation...well most of the time.

"Don't worry Shraddha, the doctor said not to lift heavy objects and not engage in strenuous work, she didn't say anything about hugging family members," she said smiling.

She was a very petite girl with light green eyes with dark brown hair that was tied into a thick plait.

She was wearing a light blue anarkali dress where her stomach was more than obvious.

"Did the doctor say as well to not pay attention to what you doing and almost having a knife fall on you," I said sternly.

"Calm down Shraddha ji it was just a mistake," Malika said.

"That's was very serious you could have hurt yourself or your child," I said.

Malika was at a lost and she looked apologetic.

I sighed.

Don't let your mistakes cause you to start reprimanding others...

My thought teased me.

I sighed.

"I'm sorry Malika. I'm just overreacting," I said carefully hugging her.

She hugged me back and she pulled away.

"It's okay. You are always like that didi, you're such a worry wart Kittu ji used to be like that but..."Malika trailed on.

She looked at Kittu who seemed to be getting annoyed at each second with the person she was talking to on the phone.

She quickly cut the call.

"He keeps on saying that...but it's been three hours," she sighed.

I stepped away from Malika and she went back to the task she was doing when I went to greet Kittu.

"Kittu," I said.

But it seemed like she couldn't see me, one hand trying to rub Mithra's back who was suddenly crying and sniffling while lost in her own thoughts.

"Kittu!" I said again and this time she snapped out of her daze.

"Huh? Shraddha? What are you doing here?" she said while looking at me confused.

I smiled and shook my head.

"I was here less than an hour ago but who could say anything when you are ignoring your bhabhi," I said folding my hands and looking elsewhere.

It was such an obvious lie but of course Kittu was so distracted she paid no heed.

Malika laughed at her spot from the table and she continued in cutting vegetables.

"Sorry Shraddha I just been preoccupied and Mithra have been crying on and off all afternoon and everyone disappears and its only Malika and I that can do everything and..." She trailed off.

I smiled.

"Don't be sorry, it's okay, give me Mithra and I will calm her down while you finish cooking," I said outreaching my hands to get a hold of Mithra.

"Okay come here...it's okay," I said soft sounds to calm her down, patting her back making sure she was burped and continued to soothe her.

I walked over to where Malika was at the table and sat on the opposite end.

"Thanks Shraddha," Kittu said.

"No problem," I said having Mithra in my hands and she was slowly starting to calm down.

"Did you change her diapers, give her a bottle?" I asked even though my attention was still directed at my niece.

She was slowly about to start until I put her on my lap and lifting her by her small arms started to slowly bounce her.

The tears that were starting to fall stopped as her big brown eyes open up wide in fascination. She smiled and she started making cute sounds and started giggling.

I smiled and kissed her forehead aside from the mass of curls that were by her eyes.

"I gave her all of that and she was still crying...I tried everything and it never made her laugh like that," Kittu said at a lost.

"Wow Shraddha you must be some type of super woman," Malika said fascinated.

"No matter what Kittu did Mithra wouldn't stop crying, she kept on and on and on..."Malika stopped when Kittu cut her a heated glance and she continued on cutting vegetables.

"That doesn't usually happen I have been having something on my mind," Kittu said.

I already knew what was on her mind and even if I told Kittu her staying mad at Anand was pointless she wouldn't believe me. Plus they would make up sooner or later without my interference.

I blushed at that, remembering when Kittu told me Anand surprised her for Valentine's Day, she seemed too relieved and a little too chirpy and bubbly.

I smiled and continued to play with Mithra.

Kittu sighed and she started chopping some vegetables before she put the burner on and started cooking.

"It's not a big deal. It's something I used to try on Dhruv when he was younger and couldn't stop crying at night," I said.

Mithra was laughing at this point and I patted her on the back, soothingly until she was giggling even more. I gave her a hug and let her sit on my lap while giving her my car keys to play with.

She was having a grand ole' time as she would try to pick up the key chain, here the jiggling sound and drop it while laughing and clapping her hands.

Her eyes would become wide every time she heard the noise and would giggle in appreciation.

She continued playing with the keys and I looked up when Malika was calling my name.

"Hmm..." I said looking up.

"I was trying to tell you about Ishaan. He is annoying me nowadays," Malika said.

Malika was a sweetheart she really was, but sometimes she was known to chatter...a little bit too much.

But it's been a long while since I heard her chatter.

I smiled.

"I'm sorry how are you going to insult Ishaan now?" I said laughing.

"Not again Malika," Kittu groaned.

"Yes again Kittu this is serious. Now Shraddha I love Ishaan very much and I have tried everything I could to support him and his dreams for music but it's been nine months now. He has been with this makeshift band of his for nine months and they only had one gig," Malika said frustrated.

"Malika give Ishaan a chance he is trying his best..."Kittu trailed on.

Malika interrupted.

"No Kittu, I thought maybe I should support him even when papa ji was insistent for him to join Anand at the company. But now...I think he would realize he need to give up," Malika said.

"He did have that gig." Kittu said.

"It was for a child's birthday party. A child's party, like seriously? Mrs. Sharma's son's fifth birthday party," Malika said frustrated.

"But it's something. At least he invites you to his events. At least he makes it an initiative to make you a part of his plans. At least he is not busy taking advice from some friend of his while at the same time allowing her to hug up on him and touch him like she is his wife," Kittu said while slicing the knife through one of the eggplants she was chopping, causing it to hit the cutting board a little bit too roughly.

She continued on with the cutting and it became louder, sharper, and harsher. I was feeling sorry for the poor cutting board and for Anand who would have to come home with this angry version of Kittu.

"Kittu, what has the eggplant done to you?" Malika said pausing from her heated discussion about Ishaan.

"Huh?" Kittu looked down.

"Oh ...I didn't even know what I was doing..." Kittu trailed on.

Malika shook her head and I looked at Kittu who was trying to clear the mess and looked at her sadly.

Before I could go on with my thoughts, Malika continued the conversation from where she left off from.

Mithra burped and I was distracted in looking at her as small drool fell down her mouth. I wiped it away and smiled at her.

Before I could answer Malika I could hear the front door open and the voice of the one that enter was detectable.

Jaya.

"Jaya's home." Malika groaned.

I laughed.

Since the first day that Jaya and Malika was introduced to one another, neither like the other. On Malika end Jaya took pleasure of her seniority in being an older bahu over Malika and two the height difference.

Malika was shorter than Jaya and for some reason she took pleasure in taunting and making her feel insecure about her height and her weight especially since she has gotten pregnant.

While on Jaya's side, she didn't like Malika because of Malika always responded back to her off-handed comments.

"Malika let it go don't rile yourself up like last time." Kittu warned.

"Ehhh...Shraddha you're here?" Jaya voice sounded from behind me.

I internally groaned but I smiled and turned around.

"Hello Jaya," I said smiling.

"Ehhh what is this why are you here? Did something happen at home? Did you upset mami ji again?" she asked.

It was so obvious she was still gossiping to maa ji and it was more than obvious that she was the always telling maa ji when I came to visit mama and papa.

"Nothing of that matter has happened Dhruv wanted to play with Ishaan and I felt like visiting mama and papa but they left before I came." I said.

Her face looked slightly disappointed but it popped back into that smug satisfied smile of hers.

"You don't need to explain yourself Shraddha, what's with all these questions? Are you the police now? Plus what's with that smug smile of yours?" Malika responded.

"Oh I didn't notice that you were in the room Malika you're so easy to miss," Jaya said off-offhandedly yawning.

"Wow Jaya, if your vision is going bad at your young age then I don't know what to tell you. Maybe you need to get some glasses. Or better yet you need someone to examine that head of yours," Malika said.

I almost laughed but quickly covered it up with a cough while Jaya just dismissed her comment as if she never spoke.

She was looking around and her face scrunched up when she turned back around to me.

"But where is Kunal? Don't tell me you guys are fighting again?" Jaya said. Come on Shraddha haven't you learned anything after your divorce.

"Jaya, haven't you learned after so many times I keep telling you to keep that venomous tongue to yourself." Malika said.

"Jaya that's enough." Kittu said.

"Malika you don't need to comment as you are still a new bhabhi so you wouldn't know. But Kittu, I'm just trying to help her from losing another husband again. How can she keep this one if she doesn't know how to be a good wife?" Jaya said.

I shook my head and soothed Mithra who became unsettled at me removing the keys after getting up.

"Jaya if you were such a good wife yourself wouldn't you be doing more than just lazing around here. Wouldn't you be helping us in cooking? Wouldn't you help in some of the chores around? Also, wouldn't you stop poking your nose into everyone's business and worry about Ashish?" Malika questioned.

Jaya turned to her and folded her hands together as a smirk formed on her lips.

"Malika if you're such a good wife you would advise your husband from wasting his life away into a dead end job. I wonder how he is going to support that child of his." Jaya said.

At that Malika got up and crossed over to Jaya and I tried to pull back Malika but couldn't with Mithra who was on my hip.

"Don't worry about my husband Jaya. We are doing perfectly fine and our child will be fine." Malika said angrily.

"Oh really? If he is only doing children's birthdays and not receiving any other gig how are you guys going to earn a living. Do one thing Malika please make sure your child that you about to give birth to, don't follow into his father's worthless footsteps." Jaya sneered.

"That's enough," I said to Jaya.

"Jaya..." Kittu trailed on but Malika interrupted her.

"Jaya you wouldn't know anything about children as you don't have any. But by God, I will hope and pray Jaya that you will never get an opportunity to instill your venomous thoughts into a child of your own. God help us if you get that chance," Malika said.

"Malika that's enough!" Kittu said.

"Malika don't say that!" I said sternly.

Jaya looked slightly hurt and at a loss of words.

"Don't yell at me Kittu yell at her she doesn't spare a moment to insult me. Everyday its something or the other about me but okay whatever, fine, but she is not doing to talk about didi while I'm here or more less insult my husband." Malika said.

"Jaya just leave please." Kittu said while looking at Jaya.

It was the first time I seen Jaya nod and actually walks away from a situation without a slick remark.

"You didn't need to say that. How can you say that to her? I know how Jaya is but to almost curse her in not having a child..." I trailed on.

"Shraddha..."Malika trailed on.

"No Malika that's wrong you shouldn't have done that. Don't ever wish that upon her or anyone to lose a child more or less to never have a child." I said tears close to falling out.
