Prompt: "I wanted this to happen after Dilshad leaves Asad. Asad falling sick Dilshad comes to check him and he gives a cold shoulder to her"

Dilshad stood outside the house that had been her home for so long. And today, she was not sure if she had any right to step a foot inside or not. She stood outside for some long minutes and then wiping off her tears, she pushed the door open and entered.

From where she stood, she saw Zoya flitting about the kitchen and preparing what looked like soup, and failing miserably.

How could have I left my children alone? Dilshad choked back a sob and a sniffle.

Zoya looked up at a muted sound and saw her Phuppi. Her eyes widened and then she rushed to dive into her embrace.

"Phuppi!" Zoya cried. "You are here! Ya Allah! What--you?"

Dilshad smoothed Zoya's hair and said, "I heard Asad coughing and sneezing on the phone when you called me last night. How is he?"

Zoya shook her head, "Would have been fine if he was not so stubborn."

Dilshad nodded. "Can I go and see him?"

"Of course, Phuppi. Why are you even asking me?"

Dilshad walked to Asad's room and opened the door. He was lying on his bed with his arm thrown over his eyes. Dilshad chuckled at his "I am sick" posture - it hadn't changed over the years.

She padded over to his bed and sat down by his side. Sensing that he was asleep, she ran her fingers through his hair in gentle, soothing manner.

His eyes opened at once at his mother's touch.

Dilshad gave him a tentative smile. His eyes locked on her face. She saw the play of emotions on his face as he went from relief, to love, to confusion, to realization and then finally his face hardened and he moved himself away from her hands.

Her empty hands stung.

"Kaise ho, Asad?" her voice was timid.

Asad scooted off the bed and stood with his back to his mother, his fists clenched at his sides.

Not getting any response she continued, "I heard that you were unwell. I was worried"

Asad turned around and in a broken voice said, "Worried enough to come back to me, Ammi?"

Her tears ran down her cheeks as she looked down at his questioning look. Her silence was loud and clear.

Asad cleared his throat and moved towards the door of his room. He opened the door wide and locked his hands behind his back, his eyes hardening even further.

"Don't worry, Mrs. Rashid Khan. I will not use my ill health to lure you to me."

Dilshad's head snapped to his face and she looked at him with a pleading look, "Asad!"

He motioned towards the door with his hand and said with resolution.

"You can leave, Mrs. Rashid Khan. I don't want faux care from Janab Rashid's wife, but if you see my Ammi anywhere, tell her that her son needs her."
