CHAPTER : 9.1 : LESS THAN 7 DAYS ...
Uday was gone for 3 days and Udita was very confused about his disappearance. He had explained everything to her before he left ... but there's only so much , a 55 week-old, would understand. Uday did make it a point to call her everyday - maybe 10-12 times! Ud-Veel Singh , come ome! , Udita commanded her father ... but she was just a mouth-piece for her mother - who was getting desperate to have Uday back.
Manyata Bhai - this MMS clip of Udita walking ... can I just ask why Uday banna let Udita fall there? , Vijay asked in an attempt to make light-conversation. However his little try back-fired, when Manyata "chewed him and spat him out": How would I know ... go ask your brother-in-law!
It seems Vijay was assigned by Uday to do 1 specific job ... that was - to be Manyata's shadow. He was supposed to be behind her, AT ALL TIMES! But to Manyata ... he was a "royal pain in the ass" - becoming more annoying as each second passed : Uday - you are so gonna pay for putting a tail on me! , she threatened her husband in her mind.
Manyata Bhai , she heard Vijay call for her ... quickly, she got into bed and pulled the blanket over her head, pretending to be fast asleep ... even going so far as to fake - snoring noises. But Vijay was onto her trick, and had his own method of waking her: Oho Manyata Bhai ... you're sleeping! Uday Banna wanted to surprise you - so he returned early ... he's down-stairs!
In a flash, she removed her blanket ... Uday's back? Vijay stood with his arms folded across his chest : Pretending , huh Manyata Bhai ... very bad , I tell you! Baad mein Vijay Bhai , please ... Manyata told and rushed towards the door, when Vijay was forced to burst her "happy-bubble" - Sorry Manyata Bhai - I lied! Uday Banna is still in Jaigarh. You were trying to fool me, so I called your bluff , he explained patiently ... but Manyata looked like she was ready to tear him to pieces, and refused to accept his apology.
After things cooled down a bit, Vijay began again: Manyata Bhai - do u know why Uday Banna SUDDENLY accepted ME to be a SUITOR for UNNATI? I know , I know ... , Jai jumped up and down in excitement, waiting to give the answer to Vijay's query. Great! Vijay Bhai ... Jai will give u your answer; in the mean-time , I'm going to check on my daughter , Manyata walked off, leaving the cousins behind.
As Manyata walked pass her parent's room, she noticed Brijraj struggling to grasp his ringing mobile. She quickly went to his assistance, and took the call herself. Oh Yuvraani Manyata ... THIS MUST BE MY LUCKY DAY! I don't normally get to talk to the CROWNED PRINCESS OF DEVGARH! Stanley Phillips - what do u want? Why can't u leave my father alone? I'll HAPPILY leave him alone ... as soon as he gives me what he owes me. What! What does he "owe" you? Aha ... looks like Brijraj is keeping secrets, huh ... well, my dear - your DAD owes me $25m!
The phone fell from Manyata's hand, as she stared with shock at Brijraj : Daata - u owe Mr Phillips, money? He nodded ... with tears full in his eyes. Is THAT the reason why you're in this condition now? Again he nodded. His sorry state brought tears to Manyata's eyes also. When do we have to pay it? Brijraj held up all 5 fingers on his left-hand and his thumb on his right hand. 6 ... Daata - are u saying , we have 6 months? He shook his head in a "NO". 6 weeks? , she asked slowly and again, he shook his head. 6 days? , her voice was now a whisper ... and to her horror; Brijraj nodded in a "YES". But that was only half the problem ... Manyata did not know that if they'd NOT PAY Stanley back - he'd be taking over Devgarh!
Every family member assembled in DS's study ... but there was a pin-drop silence. Brijraj had 8 months to raise the capital; but in that time - all he accumulated was $6m. The shortfall of $19m weighed heavily on their minds ... how could they possibly raise such a massive sum ... that too , in 6 days time. At this point ... climbing Mount Everest looked easier!
None had a clue what to do ... even the mighty DS , couldn't come up with any ideas. Right now, she wanted to bombard Brijraj with questions - but she knew he won't be able to answer. A loan? Would they get it this fast? No way - as they didn't have the collateral to put up!
Insurance policies, fixed-deposits ... calling in favours - were the ideas, the youngsters came up with. Unfortunately , the target of $19m was still out of their reach. Hell ... they wouldn't even make half the amount!
Jai excused herself to answer Manyata's phone, as she was too tensed to take Uday's call herself. Hey Jijusa. Hi Jai - where's Manyata, is she sleeping? No - she's with DS. Where's my Baby? TINY is sleeping. "TINY" - how did u come up with THAT name? Well , she's quite tiny for her age ... therefore I'm calling her TINY! Ummm , OK - can I speak to Manyata now? Jijusa ... actually, baat ye he ke ... ... ... , Jai began telling everything about Brijraj , his debt ... and their lack of time. Jai ... knowing Stanley Phillips - I'm certain that there's a contract somewhere, that was signed by Uncle Brij and him. U need to find THAT ; FAST!
If Stanley does not get his money on time ... we need to know , what HE'LL BE GAINING and what WE'LL BE LOSING!
Jai immediately started searching for the contract ... but only found it the next day. DS read it out : I, BRIJRAJ SINGH , co-owner of the gold-mine in Devgarh - agree to buy out the shares of my partner, STANLEY PHILLIPS ... for the sum of $25m by the 25th of September 2014. Failing to do so ... I give up my only asset ... DEVGARH - to him. DS couldn't read further, she couldn't believe that Brijraj made such a deal with Mr Phillips. He had signed away their legacy to the Devil, himself!
CHAPTER : 9.2 : TICK-TOCK, TICK-TOCK ...
Wait, wait, wait ... when we shut down the mine in Devgarh, then ..? .. I don't get it, Uday , Manyata was confused and it was difficult for Uday to explain over the phone, but he did his best ... Princess - we told Uncle Brij that we'll be shutting down the mine. However Uncle Brij was not the only owner, Stanley Phillips was the joint partner. Uncle Brij had to buy Stanley's half of the business - in order for us to do what we planned.
That means ... we're in this mess , because of us! No! We're in this mess - because Stanley Phillips took advantage of Uncle Brij. He made up this contract, whereby DS will lose Devgarh, if Uncle Brij couldn't buy out Stanley's shares by the allocated date! But that's unfair right? Of-course Princess, but I'm confused as to why Uncle Brij signed ... first of all , Devgarh IS NOT HIS , to give away! Maybe Daata thought - he could get the money ... and Devgarh would be safe! Perhaps! Uday - what are we gonna do about the money? Well , we have 5 days ... we'll think of something , he said assuringly. Uday - do u have that much? Would u lend us the money? I do have it ... but it's in the form of fixed-deposits and bonds - it'll take time to get out. As soon as I come back to Mumbai - I'll arrange something. Will we make it on time? Trust me Princess! Thanks Uday. Princess - what's mine , is YOURS! You don't have to thank me for it.
Manyata smiled in relief. You need to keep smiling like that Princess! Huh! How did u know I was smiling? Awww Princess - don't u know ... I KNOW EVERYTHING WHEN IT CONCERNS YOU! Humph! , she snickered in tandem with rolling her eyes. But , it seems Uday knew THAT also. Manyata scanned her new cell, which Uday bought her, a week ago - for a hidden camera, because it looked like Uday was secretly watching her every move. There's no hidden surveillance-system in there Princess - I JUST KNOW YOU REALLY WELL! Oh really! Hmmm , for example ... remember when we first met on the beach, I could tell; u were immediately smitten by my good looks ... and the second time we met in my restro-bar - you were charmed by my towering persona! UdayVeer Singh , u better shut-up now before YOUR GIGANTIC HEAD SWELLS EVEN MORE, AND EXPLODES! Both laughed.
Okay Princess - Vijay Banna tells me , that you refused to move into the room downstairs ... why is that? You know it's not wise for you to be climbing steps in this condition! Uday - I like my room, I'm comfortable there ... and as for climbing steps - I think it's a good form of exercise for me. Uday listened but wasn't convinced - Manyata was taking too many risks and he didn't like it 1 bit! By the way - your CHAMCHA is getting on my nerves! , Manyata complained about Vijay to Uday, who couldn't stop laughing, upon hearing Vijay's new name.
Oh God Princess - u got a name for everybody! Ya - u are my HALKAT VEDA .. Vijay Bhai is UDAY KA CHAMCHA! And that bloody Stanley is SUWAR KE AULAD! , Manyata's tone became angry. Whoa Princess - calm down. I don't want your blood-pressure to sky-rocket! Just don't think about Stanley Phillips ... when I get back - I'll sort him out!
Now promise me ... you're gonna stop worrying - you're not gonna get tensed about Stanley or ANY OTHER REASON! Hmmm. Don't "HMMM" - say the words! Fine! I promise I will not worry unnecessarily . Promise me - you are gonna take extra care of yourself. Yes Dad , I promise , she said sarcastically. Goo-gal! , Uday imitated his daughter's version of "GOOD-GIRL" , making Manyata smile.
I bet , you were wishing you were in my arms right now, isn't Princess? ,Uday teased. Oh God Uday - you're too much! Ummm - is THAT another way of saying : YES UDAY ... I WISH U WERE CUDDLING ME NOW! Shut-up Uday ... ab rakthi hoon , BYE! Bye Princess - I love you. Love you too , come fast - remember , we're relying on you! Yep , see you soon.
DS was not proud about accepting financial help from her grand-son-in-law; but she had no other choice! She did have 1 condition however ... she'd only accept the money, if Uday agreed to treat it as a loan! A verbal agreement was reached!

O come on Jaggat - do it for me , Jai fluttered her eye-lashes and Jaggat could not refuse. Jaggat got down on all 4 limbs : But do u think it'll work? Do u think Udita will like me after this? It's worth a try ... we can't have her being frightened of you . till - FOREVER! If she remains scared of you ... then she'll never come to our house for holidays ; nor will she come to baby-sit our children!
"Children" - ummm Jai , EXACTLY how many kids are we going to have? 2 ... a boy like you and a girl like me , she answered proudly ... making Jaggat smile like a fool. OK - now I'm going to get TINY!
Jai carried Udita and brought her to where Jaggat was ... but as soon as the Baby got a glimpse of him; she started bawling! Sshh Tiny , don't cry Baby ... ssshh Sweety ... see there , that's your new horsey , Jai pointed to her husband, who was pretending to be a "human-horse". If you stop crying ... then the horsey will take you for a nice ride, Jai was bribing Udita. Pihu? Ya sure ... the horsey will take Pinkoo for a ride also. Udita smiled - she was very intrigued about the "ride" , she was going to get.
Jai walked beside Jaggat, as he paraded the Baby and her Teddy around the living room. She held Udita steady as the child waved to her mother who was watching from upstairs. The Baby smiled and blew flying-kisses as if she was doing a victory-lap after winning a horse-riding competition! Jai's little activity proved to be a resounding success as Udita became a little fonder of Jaggat ... and by the end of the day - Jaggat was her new best-friend; and she (re)christened him: Hossy!

Early the next morning ... Hello - is that Mrs Singh? and unknown male asked Manyata from the other end of the phone-call. Yes - it is - who is this? My name is Nirmal ... I'm calling from National Bank of India. I'm unable to reach your husband, Mr UdayVeer Singh , can u please tell him that we won't be able to cash his fixed-deposits! It's a vast sum of money - we'll need the managers authorisation ... and the manager is on personal leave for 2 weeks!
