Part 14

No proof read!

Nandini stumbled behind trying to register if she was seeing right things! Was the area before her really on fire? Hell yeah!

The fire from the garbage was spread to nearby dry grasses. It was just a small thought, but nandini had guessed right! The fire spread like a wind. Nandini heard screams from the basement of the chemistry wing. And she recognised the voice! It was yash's. he was frantically slamming the huge door to the chemistry lab at the basement. Nandini could clearly hear the noises and screams. There was one more scream that made her freeze! -Kriti!

Kriti was trapped inside, nandini's instincts asked her to run and rescue her dear friend but her brains had registered one more thing. There were kids at the roof/terrace. And the terrace was on fire. Credits to the freaking-stupid-workers for putting the wooden logs at the top floor! Wood and fire what a match! Nandini wondered sarcastically.

Nandini shut her eyes to calm down her nerves. She still felt weak and tired. She hadn't forgotton to take her medications too, wow her fate or whatever freaking thing it was, was just awesome!

The kids continued to yell for help and their screams mixed with Yash's making nandini shiver. "I sorry kriti.. you have yash.. but probably no one knows the kids are stuck.. forgive me.." she whispered to herself. And ran at the direction of the hostel. There was a bridge that connected to the new chemistry building from the 1^st floor of hostel.

She stopped to take few breaths, her bp was running low. She was turning pale but she didn't care. For now all she thought was the kids who were surrounded by wild-fire. And she had to save them at any cost!!! Nandini reached the top floor and saw the kids at the edge on the other side. There was huge fire in the middle and that was crawling towards them like a monster. To their right was the oldest and biggest tree that was also on fire. Nandini cursed under her breath. Due to the fiasco infront, the kids were unaware of nandini's presence. They were taking back steps to move away from the fire and they had already reached the edge. Any moment they would fall of the building, nandini wondered frantically how to draw their attention.

Her eyes fell on the 3 sacks of sand at the corner. Some part of her brains wasn't giving her permission to use all of them on the fire, other part of her brain was thinking hard to find some alternative solution. 3 sacks of sand would be really less seeing the fire infront of her! It would no where be enough extinguish the fire. Nandini searched around the place to find something. Nandini found a huge rod at the corner. Her mind worked at a lightning speed, she held the rod and separated few logs of wood from the heap. Finally she had their attention.

"Listen sweethearts, I am gonna get you out of here! Do not worry.. stay where you are Don't Move!" nandini yelled. The kids nodded and clubbed together holding each other tightly, they kept crying and yelling to save them. "I am there.. don't worry dear.. I am there.. I will get you out okay? Trust me and stay where you are!"

Nandini tried to open the sack, but the cover was way too hard for her nails. Cursing under her breath she searched for any sharp objects! There was none. She took a breath and tried to do a worst things! She bit the bag trying to make a hole. The tiny hole she created was so small that, even her small finger didn't pass through it. The kids screamt as the fire neared them. nandini frantically looked here and there to find something and then here eyes laid upon her wrist! She had 2 glass bangles. Closing her eyes she banged her wrist on the floor, the glass bangle broke into pieces. It also cut her wrist and she started bleeding. Nandini was amazed when she didn't feel a tad bit of a pain. Her hand was bleeding and she didn't feel any sensation. Ignoring the blood oozing out of her wrist nandini took one of the pieces and started scratching the bag. Finally a huge hole was made, enough to draw out the sand. Using a small paint can that was next to her, nandini filled it with the sand. She then threw the sand at the small log of wood she had separated. After sometime the fire was down at that part. Nandini smiled at the kids panting.

She placed the paint-can upon the log and asked the kids to pass through to avoid the heat. The kids came running towards her one after the other. In few seconds she had all the kids by her side. She followed them out but stopped as suddenly her heart asked her to do something. She pulled in another sack of sand along with her, one of the kids helped her in carrying it. For some odd reason even she didn't know why she did that!

"aren't you coming with us?" one of the kids asked standing at the bridge that led to the hostel. Nandini looked around the half-constructed building and then smiled at them "not yet.. be safe.. call for some help okay? There must be guards at the entrance.." the kids nodded and ran off.

Nandini descended downstairs, exactly knowing where she was heading to. She thanked god that she was wearing pant top and a jacket. It helped her in this freaking chaos! She was continuously having a bad a feeling. Something was wrong. Something was going to happen! Her mind constantly warned her. Ignoring all the pleas of her brains nandini finally reached the first floor.

She was losing her senses, her bp was taking toll on her. She felt so weak that she would faint any moment. She walked towards the other corner of the stairs and sat down upon a platform. She tried to relax but her fate was completely against her. Did her fate f**king hated her to bits?

She heard a huge crashing sound and next thing she knew was the building was crashing! The stairs she had used didn't exist anymore. The roof was slowly falling down! The walls started shaking and ready to fall off! Nandini hugged her knees moving into farthest corner, she hid her head between her knees and started chanting all god's names. This wasn't the way she planned. She vowed to strangle all the workers, the engineer, manager and everyone who are involved in the construction of this f**king building! if she was alive, they would be dead for putting so many lives in danger! To make it worst she head an explosion from basement. Praying that kriti and everyone else was fine nandini peeped to see her sourroundings. The sounds had reduced. Whatever had to fall had fallen off. She knew some more was on the way, but before the whole building crashed down she had to reach the basement! Her instincts told her that kriti was still stuck out there!

Taking careful steps she walked towards the area which had collapsed. There was no stairs to the basement anymore. Nandini wondered how to get down. She searched for a ladder but couldn't find one. Tears rolled down her cheeks. But she had to be strong! Yes she had to be strong. She checked her phone. For the first f**king time ever, she had a network in this part of the college where usually she never had one! Nandini dialled the emergency number for fire & safety. By the time she thought of dialing to the police the network was gone! But she thanked god atleast a rescue team would be here!

Nandini found a wooden pole at the corner that was used as a support to hold the ground and the ceiling. She withdrew it from its position and placed it down making it as a ladder to get down. She threw the sand bag down and steadied the position of the wood. Once she was sure the pole was in its place she slowly slid down. She landed down with a thud, but safely that is!

And finally she was there at the basement! Carrying the sand bag along with her nandini passed the lecture hall and reached the huge doors that led to chemistry lab. She could hear the explosions even though screams weren't heard anymore. For a moment she wondered whether anyone is inside. As on cue there was banging on the door followed by the screams to open the door! She recognized the voice- Yash! "Open the door please!!! We are STUCK!!! Please open the goddamn door!!!!" yash yelled and banged harder.

Nandini rushed to open the door but no luck. The door was jammed. f**k the builders!

Hearing the clicking sounds from the other side yash continued to yell "hey.. please.. please help! Lab is one fire.. please help.. there are 12 of us here.. please help.. open the door.. please.." his was vulnerable. Nandini felt a pang on her heart. She continued to try but this door was stubborn!!!

Nandini looked around to find any other way. There was a window to her right. She broke the un-fixed glass of the window, but the grills in the window were unbreakable. Her wrist started bleeding even more as one of the glass pieces brushed the wound. Nandini yelped in pain. She had lost lots of blood. She was turning pale and weak. She had to maintain her energy. There must be someway to break open this f**king grills!!! Nandini thought in frustration.

Nandini recalled that previous day there was some welding work going on in lecture hall. She ran to the lecture hall searching for anything that she could use to break the grills. At the far corner she would welding machine. HELL YEAH!

She reached it and ran towards the window. She searched for the switch for the electricity! But damn her luck she couldn't anything but a switch with no plug-ins. It was emergency switch where you just stick wire edge to the pin and electricity would pass through. Biting off the material from the wire, nandini smoothened the wire and with shivering hands she placed it inside the pin. She felt a shock pass through her veins, nandini immediately fell back. Her whole body numb, her eyes suddenly read. She had a freaking electricity shock, thank her stars it wasn't too high! But her already weak body was carving for rest and medicines.

"KRITI!" she heard yash cry and then there was an explosion. Nandini froze!

Let me confess. i suck at thrillers! 😆 i mean this is not what i had planned initially, but this is how words and scenes poured out of me 😛

and for all those who are wondering, this story that started off which a small crush-heart-break thingie has reached thrilling climax, hell yeah guys! i wanted to make such a disastrous climax since long.. howz that 😉
