The crackling chemistry between the lead pair of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's upcoming Ram-Leela " Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone " goes beyond the passion they share on screen. It reflects when they make way for each other, when they share their food, when they talk together, compliment each other with their eyes locked and yet make no bones about displaying their comfort level in front of flashing cameras. On their recent visit to Delhi to promote Ram-Leela, Ranveer and Deepika displayed it all.
"We are complementing energies. She is yin to my yang," Ranveer pointed out. While one is outgoing with facetious nature, the other one is a silent observer. Still, they complement each other. Probably this is the reason why playing reel life characters of Ram and Leela came so easy to the two.
"It is definitely tough to keep up with his energy. I am someone who speaks less, I am more of an observer and an absorber. I like to watch and analyse people and just be on my own sometimes. But he is the complete opposite. He wants to talk and engage with everyone. I think we are very different people and this made it easy for us to portray Ram and Leela," says Deepika.
Another common factor between the lead pair is their love for love stories. Four films old, Ranveer has done only love stories in his three-year career. And for Deepika, a script should have a love angle to get a nod from her.
"It is amazing because Manish Sharma, who directed me in my first and second film, said that with your natural way of being, your home genre should be action. It is funny that you are making your debut with a romcom when you should have been launched with an action film. Then I signed on some more love stories. Hopefully, I am going to break this pattern with Gunday, which is an action drama. However, I stick by the choices I have made. I have done some wonderful things that I am proud of and Ram-Leela will be a memorable one for ages," says Ranveer. Deepika adds, "I believe in the old school form of love that I have seen while growing up with my parents and extended family. When it comes to love, marriage and relationships, I think I am very, very traditional because I don't know any other way. Even in the films that I do, it is mandatory that there is a love story."
And Sanjay Leela Bhansali added one more love story to her kitty. However, it was not easy to work with him. "Sanjay sir is always termed as a magician. He is someone who makes cinema an experience. He works at a certain level of efficiency and he expects people to deliver at a certain level. And if you fall short of that, anyone would get upset. But that is also because he really takes time to make his movies. Every director is very passionate about the films he makes. But Sanjay sir takes it to a whole new level. He is involved in each and every aspect of the film. Even my costumes were designed by Anju Modi and Sanjay sir together. It was a learning experience to work with him," says Deepika.
At present, the duo is enjoying their fast-paced life. Ranveer, on road to recovery after a bout of dengue, is giving his heart and soul to the film promotion. "I am sick of being in the bed with a sore back and feet. I just can't rest and want to keep working. I am very excited to be back now. But I feel mujhe nazar bahut jaldi lagti hai. It's uncanny that every time I take my shirt off, something bad happens to me. So, I am planning to keep it on for sometime," he says.
For Deepika, juggling three movies at a time was not an easy thing, yet she enjoyed her hectic schedule. "My only regret is not spending time with family. The amount of work that I am doing and the pace at which I am working, I love it. I am almost a workaholic. There is not a single point of time in the day when I am not thinking about work or something that is related to work. If I don't think this way, I feel I am not doing anything. However, after Cocktail, the only movie that drained me is Ram-Leela. I am completely exhausted after working in a film with such grandeur," ends Deepika.
