HAPPY DEEPAVALI

world is changing but we indians will always be proud of who we are

DEEPAVALI

Deepavali or Diwali is the 'festival of lights' refers to the array of lights or clay lamps, symbolizing the victory of 'good over evil'.This is one of the most popular festivals of Hindus.People in different regions in India celebrate Diwali on various dates as traditional lunar calendar is interpreted in different ways.In Tamil Nadu Deepavali is celebrated in the tamil month of Aipasi. Here Deepavali commemorates the victory of the
Lord Krishna over the demon Narakasur.

Typical Deepavali celebrations begin with waking up early in the morning, before sunrise, followed by an oil bath. The bathing tradition involves massaging of warm til oil containing pepper corns, betel leaves etc.New clothes are worn as a part of celebrations.A home made medicine "Deepavali Lehiyam' is consumed, which is supposed to aid in digestive problems
that may occur due to over eating.😉

People decorate their houses with rangoli, flowers, garlands, scented candles etc. In the pooja room betel leaves, betel nuts, bananas, flowers, sandal paste, kumkum etc are kept.Crackers and new clothes are placed in a plate after smearing a little kumkum or turmeric. Pooja is performed for the deities.A variety of mouth watering sweets and savories are prepared and are distributed to the friends and relatives. In the evening array of small clay lamps are lighted and crackers are bursted symbolizing the killing of demon narakasura.

In the north Diwali commemorates the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after his exile .Diwali celebrations begins two days before the actual Diwali day with Dhanteras. On this day most Indian business communities begin their financial year. The day after Dhanteras is celebrated as choti Diwali.Diwali in south India takes place on this day.On Diwali day,Lakshmi pooja is held. The next day is the Govardhan pooja. The fifth day is Bhai Dhooj. On this day sisters invite brothers to their home.

Though Diwali is known as festival of lights, the significant meaning of it is awareness of the inner light , waking up from the slumber of ignorance. The celebration as 'the victory of good over evil', refers to the light of higher knowledge dispelling all ignorance .

Though Diwali is celebrated in different manner in different regions , the essence is the same--to rejoice in the inner light, attain illumination of the soul, enjoying the eternal bliss of the soul.

Happy Deepavali to you all.May you all attain full inner illumination!!! May the supreme light of lights enlighten your understanding!!!!!
