Recently, at IF, we had a huge debate over Shahrukh's lines at the Award Function Night. Some argued that his behaviour wasn't pretty good, some argued that he shouldn't have insulted Amir Khan like that on stage, some argued over his lines for Vinod Chopra and some argued about the word 'Darinda' that he used for Amar Singh and this- Amar Singh's issue has been highlighted. I got this article in a mail from a friend. But this news is widely spreaded and this was even showed on Television. The article:

Shah Rukh should apologize!

Samajwadi Party activists on Monday demanded an apology from film star Shahrukh Khan for allegedly abusing Amar Singh at a recent film awards function.

Khan light-heartedly described Amar Singh as a Darinda or fiend at the Filmfare Awards function here. This, however, irked his supporters.

They gathered outside Mannat, Shahrukh's bungalow, and shouted slogans against him.

"During the Filmfare awards function, Shahrukh Khan abused our leader Amar Singh, who is the president of the Uttar Pradesh Vikas Parishad in the most absurd way. We condemn this. We respect him a lot because he has made Uttar Pradesh Uttam Pradesh.

The people of Uttar Pradesh condemn this and ask Shahrukh Khan to say sorry, or else we will come out onto the streets and organize a mass movement against him all over India," said Rama Shanker Tiwari, the President of the Uttar Bhartiya Sangam.

Shah Rukh is reported to have apologized after the function, but according to the Samajwadi Party activists, this was not enough. This led to the police arresting some of them.

Now the question arises-

Was it fair for Shahrukh to apologize even though what he said was a part of the script?

According to me, people shouldn't have made such a fuss over this issue as Shahrukh was also cracking up jokes at himself.

Any public figure, by nature of their profession, opens themselves to criticism and ridicule. People need to learn to laugh on themselves.
If every politician demanded apologies for such trivial reasons, all cartoonists would be out of business and so would comedians n editors of newspapers.

I don't say that abuse public figures and cross all lines of decency. But this is making a mountain out of mole hill.

Shahrukh has no reason to apologise for such frivilous stuff.

That's stupid...no apology needed...by doing that you only prove to politicians that they have more power over the 'junta'...I am mad about this...same thing happened when aamir tried speaking up...India is supposed to be the biggest democracy...which means free-flowing ideas are allowed...which means that actors should be allowed to criticize without having their names and pictures burned which to me just sheer idiotic behavior...I mean grow up...learn how to take a joke...India's political system needs a dire change and it needs it now...changes need to made...people like that should not just rule the country and decide everyone's fate for their own good...grhh they make me so mad 😡 ...kay i'm done venting 😃

I think the question is not that Shahrukh should apologise because he cracked a joke on an Indian political figure... An act does not become right of wrong because it is directed at one particular section of the society and not others... If something is wrong, its wrong for all, whether it was directed towards Amar Singh the politician or any other common person...

Now coming over to whether what happened was right ot wrong - yes we all know that much of that was part of the script, but a lot of that was spontaneous also - like the situational comments on Vidhu Vinod Chopra.. I personally think, that whether it was the script or Shahrukh's own comments, the line was crossed on that day... Its always easy to crack a joke on ones own self, but its not easy to hear it coming from others... and most of the one-liners that day and the earlier KWK show really further projected already bloated ego image of Shahrukh... That is not good for any artist for whatsoever field... The moment you start thinking too much about yourself and think that all others are no good, the downfall is surely approaching...

So, in all - what happened on the night was not in good taste... as for whether he should apologise or not.. well forced apologies are no good.. I would rather stress on a mellowed down and a sober attitude of him in the future

I did not see it and I doubt I missed anything. I have lived in the USA long enough to just say few general things.

1. Certain things star say are over-rated, mmost are misconstrued and over publicised

2. The Indian society involved in such brawls and debates and heated argumenst could use a litle humour and living up and shed this constant demanding RESPECT crap. Utter rubbish!

3. Why should everyone be politicaly correct just because they are in lime -light? they did not demand to be idols and trendsetters. Let them be who they are. Not everyone aspires to be a politician! Instead, some people could LEARN to appreciate sarcasm and dark HUMOR!!

4. If Bush supporters start protesting against words used for the persident of the USA by every Tom, Dick, & Harry, this nation would have stopped functioning. When everyone is grown up, such comments can be looked at in a different and fun sense.

See wat Shahrukh did, though a part of the script was something he was well aware of... So he had to face the consequences though he did not script the speech himself..

Btw... How did he insult Aamir Khan?? Can someone plsss tell me??

I think people in India give more love affection and time to celebraties then in anywhere else ..So we are more concern about-how,who,what,why....and so on about stars and all famous people. They can say things on stage when so many people are watching them but there should be some limits and it should not hurt other person feelings.

Was it fair for Shahrukh to apologize even though what he said was a part of the script?

"what he said was a part of the script?" - don't agree with it, isn't the script given in advance? anyways old saying in hindi I heard - "Agar koi kue mey jaakey girney bolta hai, toh kya tum kue mey gir jaaogee " 😆

No I am not saying he should have apologized either, it must be all in fun. Ppl talk about him too, so all squares out.

Edit - Font attributes changed
