I am a huge huge HUUUGGGEEE Jane Austen fan. She is the mother of all romance as far as I am concerned, so I think all heroes need to be stacked up against her characters. Like with Arnie, he was definitely Mr. Darcy with a temper.
Here's my question to other readers who might have read Austen's work like Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield Park, etc. Which Jane Austen hero or villain is Shlok closest to?
I think it is Mr. Knightley. He gets upset and frustrated with his girl quite often. He is said to have been taller, more mature and not very good with words. He could hardly propose well (eh?). He often reprimanded his heroine to the point that she had no idea he ever liked her (hmm). He also played games with Emma to see if she liked anyone else. I think Shlok is Mr. Knightley from Emma.
What do you think? Is he Mr. Knightley or someone else?
FANTASTIC discussion! I agree, he's more Rochester and Healthcliff than he is Knightley. But girls, he ain't no Darcy or Thornton. Neither of those would ever hit a woman.
