I have to get this off my chest, forget the love story I just want to analyze these characters as respecitve Jalal as King and Jodha as Queen.
Jalal might not be akbar yet, but we know he is progressing towards that. We have seen proof of that with his acknowlegement of uniting the country and people, having religious tolerance, having mercy on those that commit crimes so is to get a second chance, admiring true bravery in others and having councelors from other races because he is a good judge of character.
Ok now coming to Jodha in history she is supposed to be one of the best queens Mughals have had, not mumtaz like who is known for Taj Mahal or Nur Jahan who more or less many considered her a scheming wench. Jodha more or less whatever her name might have been is seen as a great political mind. So far in this show we have seen no sign that she is capable of such governance.
Starting with understanding her marriage in general to the Jalal. This is the 16th century being a princess of her time she should be used to such barter, so it coming as a shock to her is silly to begin with. But I will attribute her shock to her cheating parents to not show or say who the real groom is, I still can't believe she forgave them for that it was the the most cruel thing they did compared to anything Jalal as done so far, he only one the enemy who was honest with her. But she acts like a tantrum throwing child by burning his dresss in front of the whole court without any thought of political ramifications. The game would have ended then and there if again if it wasn't for Jalal possessing sense, unfortunately his soon to be wife has none.
Ok her first political bargain, I will force him to say no to this marriage by putting forth such conditions that he will be forced to say no. Duffod Jodha no brain cells, if Jalal is as cruel as she thought he was, only two things would have happened he would have said yes and refused her when they got to agra or he would have said no and laughed in her face and she still would have to marry him. Ok if I remember the movie correctly AR Jodha put forth such conditions as a sincere request to live her life as she chose not to stop the marriage. It was Jodha good fortune that option 3 was avaible for her because if she understood politics at all she would never have thought the marriage could be stopped.
As she gets to Agra she continues with her tantrums, not fully comprehending she is in alien territiory. She comes into the marriage vowing to hate not very princess like, singing rajput song in a mughal court hahaaa not smart move on her part. Her brothers and maan singh came with a much more positive attitude and understood that even death of her sister's x fiance was political play. She contines to hurl abuses against him with her maids. I am sure if she had any knowledge of how court worked then she would know there are spies everywhere you can't get away with talking like she did and the emperor or his subjects putting up with it.
The biggest argument against her being a good queen is her trying to commit suicide. All we saw was angsty wife. What was her reason her mommy refused to take her back, oh helllooo did she think that would happen to begin with and thinking her husband hates her helllo again if he truly hated you he would have her thrown her out by now. But instead he acted king like and husband like by giving her a choice to leave and allowing her to stay and saving her life. Her explanation that I want to die because I can't live my life as I chose, confused again because she has always done what she wanted to do. I don't get how thinks it is her right to do what she wants to do to begin considering the time period. But her mother's refusal to take her back was because the family reputation would be ruined, I guess jumping in the lake isn't exactly going to glorify anyone either.
Why does Jalal have to keep reminding her who she is. I want to see her transition into her responsibilities and what is expected of her. I don't care if she doesn't love him but her character lacks serious depth. Jalal seems more dynamic than she is in his abilitty to love his family plus fulfill his role to be a ruler. Her running to him trying to shoo him off to agra because her sister wedding is in jeopardy is another in a long list of her inability to see the bigger picture. I thought this was not a family drama there is a larger political landscape behind. Jodha characterization makes her so far out of place and depth, when she enters a screen we don't get the feel a queen is coming.
