Chapter-22:
As he stood leaning onto his car, outside the porch of the Eat-See-Sea Restaurant, with his one ankle crossed across the other, he just looked on waiting, observing the events in his view, even as he found himself being lost in the various train of events that occurred ever since he landed in the Cavelossim beach, Goa.
As the early sunny morning sea breeze greeted him, his messy hair creeping onto his fore-head, as he lazily ran a hand through them, his thoughts instantly triggered back to the weird yet intriguing conversation of the night before...
He looked on, his voice conveying the challenge with much determination, yet his eyes pouring out hope, conviction as well as, a well figured out plan...
He looked on, into those very hazels, standing on that cliff with the sea breeze creating its own ambience around them, as her hair danced away from her face, while all she did was look back to meet his eyes questioningly, yet searching for something else and ironically enough, he knew what it was...
Because it wasn't something foreign to him anymore...
It wasn't something termed as unknown emotion to him anymore as well...
For, he had crossed that path already, he had crossed the ignorance already...
And in the end, acceptance is what he was left with...
Turning around and for a change, not to run away is what he could really do...
He was and had been oblivious and unaware or rather he was aware maybe, but just plain ignorant of that very feeling which she was searching in his eyes at that moment.
He had been ignorant of the familiar Why's' which his sane mind had been asking him, even before she voiced that very question, a reason which he was determined to become even more ignorant, if that really makes some sense.
He had been ignorant...
--------When he felt the pull and unfamiliar yearning, even as he walked away from her in that hospital after hearing out her confession about the stranger she knew...
He was ignorant...
-----When he found himself calling Angad, his doctor friend, even more number of times than required, trying to gather everything about her progress...
He was ignorant...
-----When he found himself keeping track of her improvement, through all these seven months, anonymously even, he knew it all...
He was ignorant...
--------When found himself agreeing to attend his family event this time for a change, something which his brother-in-law was skeptical about, for he was the one, who helped him who constantly dug information about a certain Khushi Kumari Gupta, back in Mumbai...
But what he didn't knew, what he didn't plan was his sudden, yet surprising meet with her in this very restaurant a few days ago. She was in Goa, yes, he knew, but the information was only limited to that. He landed in this place, with an idea to take a day off before he would have to leave and trace her out, just to have a look at how she had been doing----- again he was ignorant of the reasons for his unusual stalking about which even his sane mind had been ridiculing him.
And once he came, in face to face with her in a much more destined way, going by their history, he was yet again lost impulsively and instinctively, this time, the underlying forbidden emotions only swore to strengthen with each passing invasion of each other. The rest as they say is history.

"I'm not gonna jump stranger---"
He knew it back then, after that, throughout the investigation and even when she was being questioned. He just knew it she wasn't planning to jump; like his instincts had been always telling him and he believed it, very much. She was right; she could count on him in this, but then...
"I---I lost my balance while trying to get down"
Yes that was very much possible and that actually should have settled all his inner turmoil. Although in that very moment, it kind of did rested all his doubts but in that same impulsive moment he had this nagging feeling that she might be lying. He had see it in her eyes, but Arnav Singh Raizada didn't really have enough reasons back then to ponder on this little instinctive nagging feeling.
But the past few days have given him more than a reason to ponder on that doubt. The moment a random tall building brought back her nave lie into his mind, he knew, she mattered to him; or rather he knew it was time to not be ignorant' of it all.
She mattered to him, yes but the moment this thought brought with it, an unexplainable, mounting protectiveness and fear for her as well, the realizations and confessions have become something that he was least bothered about.
Arnav singh Raizada cared about Khushi; more than he thought he would and more than she would ever know. So much that he was almost close to give the entire emotional turmoil, a name----a meaning. He knew somewhere deep down she hoped the same from him as well...
*
He just knew it, at that very moment, as her hazels looked up into his honey orbs, with confusion, hope, uncertainty, determination to prove him wrong on his own challenge, yet scared but still holding the very same yearning look-------and he just knew it.
But then,
The need of realizations and confessions was no longer his concern.
She lied that she fell...
And he knew that she didn't jump deliberately...
This only leaves him with another dangerous realization that someone tried to kill her...
After he had left her alone on that damn terrace wall, all alone...
Which brings him to the realization that, if he had stayed, instead of leaving...all that she has gone through in the months that followed, might have been changed? He could have changed it? Or probably ended it, whatever was her past? For once and for all?
The mere possibility of it made him all the more anxious in such negative way that his insides spiked up with raw rage. Fury, on him, on her, on the person who apparently still existed, or so he thought.
Coz, for all he knew, she was still running away from someone or something..
That brings him to the conclusion, that she isn't safe...not here, not probably anywhere else as well, until and unless he could be with her?
And with her weird ways of leading life and facing things, it wouldn't take much for that apparent person to harm her yet again---------- and his assumptions, mighty mind conclusions which almost seemed appropriate went on.
The fact that she isn't letting anything on or rather being oblivious to whatever harm was haunting her irked him even more. And the mighty ASR had to use his tactics, yet again. And so, he did what he always did best.
And for reasons which he is still trying to figure out, she said yes.
"Is that challenge-----?"
"You dare doubt!"
"You really want me to come with you?"
she had asked, after communicated a lot through her eyes, a surprising boldness making its way into her hazels and he just nodded, not trusting himself to utter anything sensible in that very moment. And thus the decision was made.
Although his ways were weird or rather calculative, his intentions were almost right. He didn't want to challenge her with their physical proximity, the coward blame game would have worked, but then it was yet again an impulsive moment, or rather his inner true reasons---------- he definitely wanted her to overcome the fear for his proximity.
*
And so, he really didn't know what it was that made her agree, but she did...
And here he was, waiting, as he looked on at her, offering her good-byes to the restaurant staff and his face turned into another thoughtful frown, or rather masked with a robotic expression as his mind ruminated his other part of his so called mighty ASR plan.
The late night that followed after the little conversation at the beach, saw Arnav making several calls to his investigators, but all in vain. He knew what he needs to find out, but he didn't know where to begin. Amidst his thoughtful slumber, even as his mind continued to flash images of him talking to Khushi at that building all those months ago, trying to recollect if he had see anything suspicious, his mind triggered with an instant idea.
"Try and check if there are any CC cameras in that hospital, and if they have, I need the footage of that night-----"
"Sir-----"
"And make sure no police are involved in this, it should be entirely a private investigation"
"This is risky Arnav----" he heard his brother in law speak, as he hanged up the phone, throwing the blue-tooth away and looked to his side to catch Shyam looking at him pointedly.
"What's risky is she hiding it all!"
"But there might be a very personal reason and even more private past, at which you are heading it, she wouldn't appreciate you digging in Arnav, not this way-----"
"Cut the crap Shyam! I wouldn't have intruded if I don't sense any danger, don't you get it, and someone is apparently back of her!"
"I get it Arnav, you can discuss this-----"
"No! You don't know her! Actually you do, it was you who gave me information about her hysteric behavior, her physiatrist sessions, the way she have gathered herself back in Mumbai? Or did you forget?"
"I know Arnav----"
"And reminding it will only push her back into it, if she doesn't want to talk about it, then be it, we can always find alternate ways! For god sake! She is in danger Shyam!"
"You are only thinking about the danger in hand Arnav, what about the heart ache she might have if she finds out your well-sketched plan?"
"It doesn't matter okay?" Arnav snapped getting impatient.
"Don't do this to yourself Arnav---" Shyam said looking at him earnestly, as Arnav turned around showing him his back. "She is fighting with a lot, give her a chance to trust you Arnav----"
"Shyam, one last time, will you or will you not help me? Just one simple answer and you are free to buzz off from my room----"
"Did I ever say no?"
"I'm honored! Now take these hospital details and get your staff at Mumbai to work now!"
"But I don't get why do you have to take her along with you?" Shyam asked truly confused, as he took the file from Arnav's hands flipping it to study instantly.
"Because I can't stay! Being Arnav Singh Raizada has its advantages to even turn back an almost lost deal! Do I have to explain why I have to go now?"
"So?"
"So what Shyam? I cant leave her alone!!"
"And so you trick her into coming with you everywhere you go? So,you can peacefully work?------"
"Shyam? Just----"
Shyam just looked at him with an unreadable expression. "You are insane" he added after a brief pause, before turning around making his way out of the small study room finally leaving Arnav alone.

And thus, a decision was made; or rather a plan was sketched. Even as he looked on, observing her distantly remembering a different time when he had been doing something similar, being the distant observer, a stranger rather, he realized, they have always been running into each other in some way or the other and he ends up running away. But even as his insides nagged him with uncertainty, guilt to an extent and anticipation even, his protective instincts surpassed everything else, and right now, nothing else mattered.
He smiled, or rather smiled to despite his disoriented mood, at Sheethal who was walking right towards him. "Heard of Ghee seedhi ungli se na nikle, to ungli tedi karni padti hai"
He chuckled despite himself, and nodded, even as his eyes were completely attuned to that of Khushi who had been busily instructing things to newly promoted manager. "She agreed herself, don't give me that look-----" he said not quite meeting Sheethal's knowing gaze.
Sheethal sighed, folding her hands across her stomach, shifted her glance away briefly before locking them with determination at him""I'm telling you Arnav-----"
"She will be fine! I promise----"
Her words were stuck in her throat and she just looked on even more expectedly.
"She will be fine-----" he said again, his voice pouring out all his determination with honesty. "And safe" he added looking straight into her eyes and looked on, as a look of hope and trust finally registered in her eyes.
"You owe me a coffee----" she said shrugging.
"It's your best friend, who happens to be my di, made the last two days the most dramatic ones"
"------because of which you get to take my another best friend away"
"Shee!!!!" they heard Khushi call and they together shifted their attention to her, as Arnav observed her walk towards them in her trade-mark blue sleeveless Tee and three-fourth jeans shorts, her hair let loose falling over her shoulders, her eyes pouring out tangled web of emotions which he could easily read through------ and he instantly had this feeling he was doing the best, despite of the heart ache the results might be proven to the both of them, or may be it might all turn out to be good in the end.
