CHAPTER : 6 : SISTER - SISTER !
"HIGH RISK PREGNANCY"- that was what the doctor told Uday. He could not shake the feeling of guilt, he had in his gut. This is your fault ; his conscience kept telling him. Viraat & Manyata's lives are still in danger, BECAUSE OF YOU! , it hammered on. Urghhh! , he shut his eyes tightly; trying to ignore the pounding pain in his head. * A tiny hand on his cheek, made him return to reality. Paapa - Mamma? , Udita asked for her mother. The child was in Uday's lap , in the front-seat ... whilst Manyata occupied the back-seat ... and had even turned it into a bed of sorts, as she lay horizontally ; fast-asleep! Look Baccha , Mamma is sleeping. When Mamma wakes up ; then u go by her! , Uday explained to his daughter.
The driver of the car smiled, when he saw Udita nod her head in understanding. Manyata had a contented smile on her face, as she wandered somewhere in Dreamland. Uday couldn't help but wonder, the reason behind her smile : Was it because she found out that Jai got married? But then , why would THAT make her so happy ... did she feel Jai to be a threat to their marriage? Surely, that's NOT the case ... so Manyata was overjoyed for something else , he continued pondering.
Aahhh, of-course ... she found out that Shivani was NEVER intimate with me! He shook his head : That means u never believed me, Princess! You were still waiting to cross-examine Shivani ... and now that , that is done - YOU'RE SATISFIED! I'm very disappointed in you Princess - I'm sad that u didn't trust MY WORD!
Achoo! Achoo! , Uday looked worriedly at his sneezing baby whilst she tried hard to breathe through her blocked nose. Paapa is so sorry that u have this unbearable cold, sweety-pie , Uday whispered his apology into her ear.
He held Pinkoo close to her, but she moved away from the teddy. Well, Pinkoo was a bit damp (even now) and he was smelly ... not to mention that he had turned brown; due to the beach-sand and salt-water. Pihu - ba, ba, ba! Uday burst out laughing before replying : Sure Darling ... your mamma will do it when we get home! The driver's mouth was opened in amazement ... How could Yuvraajsa, possibly understand; what little Rajkumari was trying to say , he wondered to himself.
The driver was brought back to reality, when his mobile rang. Ji Maharajsa , was all he said, before handing the cell to Uday. Promptly, he pulled off on the side of the road, enabling Uday to get out of the car to talk further.
Yes Dad - thanks! The car came just in time. You saved me from accepting a lift from Shivani & Rahul Singh!
Giriraj : Who?
Uday : Nevermind, Dad. Tell me, how's Uncle Brij now?
Giriraj : He's not good ... but he's not in the danger-zone either. He's back home; so, tell the driver to bring you'll to RajMaata's place. BTW ... how's Manyata handling the news?
Uday : I haven't told her yet.
Before Uday could say further ... Udita tugged on the phone. She loved talking on the phone ... and wanted to do so now also. It's your DadaSahib ... do u want to talk? , Uday asked her and she answered with a wide smile.
Halo. Hello my sweet girl ... u sound so grown up! How are u my Baby? How Daasa? , she asked but got silence from the other end. Giriraj could not answer her as he had no clue, what in the world she was asking. How Daasa? , she asked again ... but by then Uday understood the problem and took the mobile from her. Dad - why didn't you answer my baby ... she wanted to know : "HOW are u DAdaSAhib?" , he suppressed a laugh.
Uff Uday ... just get my grand-daughter home. I'm sure after spending some time with her; I'll learn her short-form language! Now come fast - see you soon ; with that , he disconnected.
As Uday got back into the car ... he glanced at Manyata; who was still fast-asleep on the back-seat. How do I break the news about Uncle Brij's health to you , Princess? , he pondered.

Mmm , Manyata grumbled before waking up. Just as she opened her eyes ... she found 2 pairs of brown-orbs fixated on her ... 1 large pair and 1 smaller pair. Wakey, wakey Wifey .. look ; we're home! She quickly wiped away the bit of drool that had seeped out of the corner of her mouth ... in a bid to make herself presentable; whilst Uday chuckled at his wife's antics.
Why are we HERE?, she asked upon seeing DS's mansion instead of Uday Niwas. Seeing Uday's "serious" expression, she knew that something was wrong. What is it Uday ? Please , tell me. Uday's hesitation started to worry her ... Uday - you've been acting strange from the time we were at the hospital. In fact ... you've been acting weird from the time the doctor spoke to you. What did she say? Did she hit on you? No Princess - she didn't ... she just wanted to tell me that YOU NEED TO CONTROL YOUR BLOOD-PRESSURE; BECAUSE THAT COULD AFFECT THE BABY! , he lied. But our Virat is fine ... right? He nodded.
Okay , then ... why have we come here? Is DS alright ... has something happened to her? , Manyata began panicking. Sshhh Princess ... DS is fine. It's Uncle Brij that's sick. Sick? What sick? What happened to Daata? Please Princess - calm down ... you're panicking, it's not good for our Baby. Uncle Brij suffered a BRAIN-STROKE. He has a bit of paralysis on his right-side - BUT HE WILL BE FINE! His voice-box was also affected ... so , he won't be able to talk to us , he said in 1 breath ... fearing that if he stopped; he won't be able to continue.
Manyata was greatly disturbed by the news , but put on a brave-front : Are u sure, he'll be fine? Uday nodded with a smile ... let's go see for ourselves!
The first person to welcome them back was Unnati ... Dada , Bhabhisa - it's so good to have you'll back! Ooh look at our Baby - she's gone so big. It was only then that she noticed Manyata's stomach ... OMG - I was right! Bhabhisa IS pregnant! Wait till I tell everyone! Unnati ran off with Udita , leaving an embarrassed Manveer behind.
After the normal greetings of "WELCOME BACK" and "CONGRATULATIONS" ... not to mention the numerous hugs and kisses - it was time to visit the patient. Uncle Brij showed slight signs of happiness; but could not put his elation into words. His weak murmurs were not comprehendible to anyone, but Doctor Uncle reassured them of a 100% recovery; making Manyata feel some ease.
Chotti - what are u doing here? , Uday finally asked the question that was bothering him, from the time he came there. Dada - I came to see Jai, I hadn't seen her since she got married! U mean , Jai is HERE? Ya - she's here ... when she heard you and Bhabhisa were here ... she ran off to her room. At once, Manyata upped herself and moved to her sister's room.
Can I come in? , she asked after knocking. Jai silently opened the door and led her sister in. What! NO HUG?? , Manyata teased after getting a poor welcome. Jai obliged with the hug ; but half-heartedly. Jai ... we both have come a very long way; and we both have grown so much - don't u think we should give our "sister" relationship another try? , Manyata said warmly as she extended her hand of "friendship" towards Jai. Silently , Jai complied and even pulled Manyata into a second hug. Manyata felt her dress dampen as it absorbed Jai's tears.
Hey - why are u crying?, Manyata asked as she rubbed Jai's back. Jiji - I'm so sorry for everything I did to you. I even tried to kill you - I'm a horrible person, yet u still want to be a sister to me! I don't deserve you. Jiji - if u get too close to me ... I'll end up hurting you again. It's best that u stay away from me , Jai sobbed and attempted to walk away.
Manyata held her and forced her to look at her : Look at me Jai - I've forgiven my Baby Sister ... it's time u FORGAVE YOURSELF. And ... I don't like you looking away from me or looking at the floor, when you're talking to me ... I want u to face me proudly.
Jiji - I don't have the courage to face you , she looked to the other side. Uff - not again , Manyata complained as Jai remained in her "sulky" mood. She cupped Jai's face and tried to explain once more : Look Jai ... there's a little girl out there, dying to be acquainted with her maasi; the only way THAT's going to happen, is if YOU AGREE TO BE MY BABY SISTER ... manzoor hain? Jai smiled and agreed.
BTW Jiji - looks like Uday Jijusa was putting in a lot of extra hours during his honey-moon , Jai teased whilst gesturing towards Manyata's swollen tummy ... forcing the elder sister to blush crimson. Congrats Jiji - I'm so happy for you ... you deserve all the happiness in this world! , Jai wished her sincerely.
And so do YOU Jai - now tell me ... why did u elope? ,Manyata questioned. Actually Jiji ... when I was getting engaged to Uday - YOU came in-between; when I was going to be crowned YUVRAANI - YOU took that away from me ... so , I thought ; what if something interrupts my wedding to Jaggat - I DON'T THINK I COULD'VE SURVIVED THAT! So , I decided to run away with him. We had a small but beautiful wedding ... & I'm so happy Jiji - I really am! Jaggat is the best thing that could've happened to me. I'm lucky to have a partner like him , she stated with pride. And where exactly, is my new brother-in-law? , Manyata asked. I was very worried about Dad, so Jaggat said I could stay here for a few days. He is at our home.
Aah, so there u 2 sisters are! Unnati exclaimed with hands on her hips. Not fair Jai ... u can't keep MY BHABHISA all to yourself! , she pouted. Jiji - I think you should fill in your nanad about all the things you and HER BROTHER did on your honey-moon ... GIVE HER ALL THE DETAILS! , Jai giggled.
Unnati quickly covered her ears with her hands and began singing : La - la - la - la - la ... I don't want to know ... La - la - la - la - la. Both sisters hi-5d each other as they followed Unnati into the living area. Udita was silently sitting on Komal's lap ... almost as if she was in shock. The environment was very new to her and it scared her. To make matters worse - her father was out-of-sight ... talking some serious business with DS in the study.
Upon seeing her mother, her long-lost smile AND VOICE returned. Happily, she crawled into Manyata's lap and made herself comfortable there. She then went on to tell her mother about something immensely important to her : Mamma - Pihu ... Ba-ba-ba. To Manyata , the words made no sense. Manyata felt that Udita wanted her teddy - so , she presented it to her ... unfortunately , that was pushed away. Pihu - bababa , she told again, but to her disappointment ... her mother , maasi , bua and naani ; remained clueless!
She twisted her body angrily in Manyata's arms , in sheer frustration ... feeling helpless at the same time. But it was her mother that felt more helpless - not to mention; embarrassed that she could not understand her child's needs. It was only when Uday returned ; did the riddle get solved. Just see what she wants Uday - I don't know what she's asking for! What u want Sweety-Pie? , he asked the Baby. Pihu - ba, ba, ba , she answered ... this time confident that her Paapa wouldn't let her down. Oho Princess - she wants u to give Pinkoo, a BUBBLE-BATH! Udita happily kissed her father's cheek as Manyata smacked her fore-head : Now, why didn't I think of that? It's simple Princess ... you're not as smart as u think! , he whispered to her.
