Dear Kunchu,

If this was a chapter in a book, and I was illustrating the book, I would show a lot of question marks floating in the air, like the keys in the last part of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.

1) Aisha is facing a question mark re: Adi (and Arjun, with Sameer too vaguely in the background)
2) Sakshi is facing 2 question marks; one re: Adi and Arjun, and the other re: Rishabh.
3) Arjun is facing a question mark as to whether Adi is missing not only his mom, which is a given, but a mom in his life.
4) Adi too is facing the same question, though he does not acknowledge it to Arjun, because he wants, with a maturity way beyond his years, to spare his father more worry and stress
5) Sameer is facing a question mark as to whether his nudging Aisha towards Adi and Arjun was the right thing to do.

Well. Kunchu, I am sure you will be catching hold of each of these keys one by one, and as you do so, I look forward to these tangled relationships being untangled and smoothened out in your inimitable style.

PART 25:

Sakshi was in her cabin sipping her coffee. Even when Aisha walked in, she didn't know that. Aisha was already messed up in her mind. She needed to think out a lot, but she needed someone's help too. That's how she thought of Sakshi. But a look at her, Aisha felt that she was in some trouble too.

Ai: (taking a seat by Sakshi) kya hua? Kaha kho gayi ho?

Sa: huh? Kuch nahi. Bas aise hi... (she gave out a fake smile)

Ai: agar koi problem ho tho discuss karne se achi lagthi hai.

Sakshi smiled at her again and then looked down. Aisha knew she was battling with herself if to open up or not. She gave her some time.

Sa: Aisha, mom firse Rishab ke bare me puch rahi thi...

Ai: ok... problem kya hai Sakshi? Don't you like him? agar aise bath hai tho seedhe mom se kehdo. She will understand.

Sa: bath wo nahi hai Aisha. he is a good guy. I know him well. Par...

Ai: then whats the trouble?

Sa:I don't know why I'm not able to decide over him...

Ai: ek bath bolo... do you like someone else?

Sakshi becomes a bit frustrated. "why do all think that? even mom ko laga ke..."

She stops abruptly.

Ai: kya laga?

Sakshi sighes and then composes herself.

Sa: mom ko lag raha hai ke ... mujhe Arjun ke aur kuch feelings hai...

That was too much for Aisha. Again another twist in her own confusion.

Ai: and...

Sa: and... what? Kya tumhe bhi aise lagthe hai?

Ai: I don't know. I never saw you having such thoughts.

Sa: mujhe bhi kabhi nahi hua tha. I mean... jaan bhoojke tho nahi. Pehle mujhe kids se bohot problem hothi thi. Fir Adi se mili... aur mere state badalne lagi. I started to like him. And then jhatka laga ke wo Arjun ke beta hai. I don't know what I feel now. I am very proud of him. Aise apne bete ko akele paal rahe hai. I admire him. Lekin uske aage tho nahi socha tha. Patha nahi mom ko aisa kyu laga.

Ai: Sakshi, think with clear mind, keeping all your confusions aside. Tumhe tumhare sawal ke jawab mil jayenge.

Sa: yeah...

Ai: Rishab se bath hui?

Sa: no, aaj rath ko call karna hai.

Ai: ok, good.

Sa: khair wo sab chodo, tum ithne pareshan kyu ho?

Ai: kuch nahi yaar.

Sa: bath ko share karna chahiye', right?

Ai: (smiling) yeah...

She too takes some time.

Ai: well, Rathod sir mujhse ek bath kaha, kal rath ko...

Sa: what?

Ai: no... wo wali bath nahi, jo tum soch rhi ho. kuch aur...

Sa: aise kya kaha?

Ai: yahi ke... shayad Arjun sir, aage bhadne ke bare me soch raha hai...

Sa: aur...

Ai: I don't know yaar... Rathod sir puch rahe the... ke kya mien sachmuch Adi ke Maa ban sakthi hu ke nahi...

Sa: WHAT?? Par mujhe laga tha ke...

Ai: that's what confusing me more. Ye actually ho kya raha hai?

Sakshi and Aisha are silent for a while.

Sa: Waise... Sameer ke soch galath bhi nahi hai...

Ai: you too, Sakshi? You itself told that he...

Aisha was silent now. "you are not helping me in my confusion Sakshi."

They sit silent for a while. Sakshi moves to the window and saw Arjun immersed in some files and signing a few. It's been almost 2 hours that he was catching up what he missed.

Sa: in sab ke beech kuch aur hai Aisha, jo humne socha hi nahi...

Ai: kya?

Sa(turning to her): what does HE actually want?

She knew the reference was Arjun. As far as they knew he was not ready to move on.

That time Sree knocked and peeped in. "sorry to disturb your gossip, ladies... Aisha, Rathod sir is asking for you."

Ai: ok...

Sree leaves.

Sa: now what?

Ai: I don't know.

She leaves for Sameer's cabin, knocks and enters. He was on a call. After call, he turns to her.

Ai: sir, you asked for me?

Sam: yeah. Commissioner sir ke office se call aya tha. He wants to meet you. Kuch officers ko tumhare wo purane Nadiya wale undercover operation ke briefing chahiye.

Ai: ab? Ithne time baad?

Sam: yeah, koi naya case hai. They needed some old first hand information.

Ai: ok sir. I'll go now.

Sam: yeah.

She was about to turn, when Arjun walked in with some files.

Ar: Rathod, I have seen those files. Aisha, Vimal ke accounts ke sare details complete hai na?

Ai: yes sir, Sree is completing it all.

Ar: good. Rathod, I'll take leave now. Adi ko aaj ek aur din mere zaroorath hai. Zyada der bachonke sath nahi chod sakthe.

Sam: ok. Sure. Aur jathe waqt Aisha ko drop kardo. Commissioner office me.

Now that was the last thing she needed.

Ai: its ok sir, mien chali jaungi.

Ar: its ok, I'll drop you.

It was a casual offer from Arjun as he knew nothing about Aisha's state of mind and Sam's background work.

Sameer also said it, so Aisha had to leave with Arjun. She walked out of the hall, and Sakshi saw them.

Sa(in mind): Sameer ne teekh hi kaha hai, shayad.

In the SUV:

Aisha was unusually silent. It was late when Arjun noticed it.

Ar: Comm office kyu jarahi ho.

Ai: purane undercover operation ke kuch briefing.

Ar: ok...

That ended it for a while. He noticed her fidgeting over her mobile absently.

Ar: any problem?

Ai: hm... nahi. kuch nahi.

He was not happy with the response. "baath kya hai?"

Ai: wo... wo...

She was not sure how to answer it. At last she dicided to take on Sakshi's advice.

Ai: Rathod sir ne kuch kaha...

Ar: kya?

She was again silent now, that gave him negative vibes.

Ar: (in mind) dammit Sam, what did you say? Kyu aise situations create karthe ho tum?

He could almost think what might have been the matter.

Ar: kya kaha Rathod ne?

Ai: wo... aap... I mean...

Now he was sure of it.

Ar: speak up Aisha. When did you start to stammer?

Ai: (taking a deep breath) it's relating you and Adi... aur...

Arjun sighed. He took some time while driving. She was trying not to look at him and also wanting to know his reaction.

Arjun knew he needed to speak now. He thought for a while and decided to break the ice.

Ar: mere duniya bohot khush tha... Roshni pe shuru, Adi pe khatam. Patha nahi kiska nazar lag gaya... aur ab aise hai.

She was shocked with his sudden start of talking.

Ar: par abhi bhi hum khush hai. lekin patha nahi kyu, Sam ko ye lagtha hai ke mien bohot selfish hu. Ke mien mere bete ke khushi ko ignore kar raha hu. I can see him happy... and trust me that's the only thing that I want.

Silence for a few second. This was yet another new face of Arjun for her.

Ar: I know har bache ko ek Maa chahiye. I know it well. Aur unki kami kabhi bhi mien puri nahi kar paunga. And if I wish, I can bring someone too. Par bath waha khatam nahi hoga.

Aisha waited again with eagerness.

Ar: Adi ke Maa ke jagah bharne keliye kisi ko le aau, tho wo mere liye... mere wife bhi hogi... har kisi ke kuch na kuch sapne hothe hai. aur wo sapnon ko mein thodna nahi chahtha...

He was silent now. She was understanding him... she too felt proud of him for being honest.

Ais: tho kya... aap abhi bhi aage nahi bhadna chahthe?

He thought for a while. Did he wish for that?

Ar: kisne kaha ke mien aage nahi bhada hai? agar nahi hotha... tho ussi din, ussi hospital corridor mien... aur ussi jagah jaha Roshni ka antim sanskar hua tha ... wahi sab khatam hotha... par nahi... aaj mien hu... aur mera Adi...

The voice was trying to be strong. But she could feel a crack some where.

She didn't know what to voice out. She lowered her eyes, not able to stand the pain that she felt for him.

Ai: I didn't mean that...

Ar: patha hai. Aage bhadna... I don't know Aisha... I don't know what to expect from me...

She knew now it clear. If it was confusing for her, then it was painful for him.

She kept her silence. Both of them needed it very badly. He drove off to the comm. office and stopped at the gates. She turned to him while he looked ahead through the glasses.

Ai: Sir, I'm sorry if I did hurt you. I never mean it...

He turned to her.

Ar: its ok Aisha. mien maantha hu ke tum ek achi biwi aur Maa ban sakti ho. par kuch bhi apne zindgai ke bare me sochne se pehle ek bath zaroor yaad rakhna ... ye zindgai tumhari hai. isme faisla karne ka haq sirf tumhari hai. not me, not Adi, not Sam. Apne aap se pucho ke tumhe kya chahiye. Shayad jawab mil jayenga...

She sat there for a while. "ek bath puchu sir?"

He nodded.

Ai: did you try to ask yourself? Anytime?

He knew he was trapped in his own trap. He smiled feebly.

Ar: nahi... abhi takh nahi pucha hai... sometime later... maybe...

She nodded at his words and got down. She took a deep breath and walked off to the office. He sat in the seat for some more time. He was feeling blank. She did ask a question that had made him to think...

He sighed and leaned back to the headrest for a while and then drove off to the camp.

Adi was out of the fever but still weak. So he sat by Nani while others played. As Sofia led Arjun to the hall, he could see his kid leaning onto Nani and cheering for his friends who were playing Musical chair. The smile on the kid's face did light him up too. That was enough for him to take away all the pain.

Adi saw his dad watching him at the door. He rushed to his arms. Arjun took him up from the ground and held him close to the heart. The hug was gentle, but it showed how much they needed each other. Nani was silently observing them.

Na: (in mind) they are just made for each other...

Adi looked up from his dad's chest. "kya hua dad?"

He nodded nothing. But Adi raised his eyebrows.

Ar: kuch nahi beta. I was just missing you...

Adi smiled and kissed his cheek. "mien tho yahi hu... ghar chale?"

Ar: haan, chalo.

He bid bye from Nani and drove off to their home. Their sanctuary.
