Tanya was a motor mouth and talked non stop while Kabir had a close look at her car.

"aap isi gaon ke hain? Thank god aap aagaye...warna is waqt main akeli ladki is tarah raaste me! Ooh so scary... aap aise andhere me akele kyon baithe the? Biwi ne ghar se bahar nikal diya? arre aap ne apna naam toh bataya nahi..

"Radiator" Kabir said.

"kya?" Tanya stopped in her tracks.

"maine kaha Radiator me problem hai..mechanic ko dikhana padega..is waqt gaon me aap ko mechanic milega nahi..aap kahan rehti hain?..aayiye main aap ko apni bike par drop kar deta hoon" Kabir offered her.

In answer she extended her hand with a 100 watt smile.. "Hi im Tanya, pyar se log mujhe Taani bulate hain..main engineer hoon, is gaon me ek project ke silsile me aayi hoon..aap ka gaon bohot sundar hai..chaliye chalte hain, im staying in the company guest house"

She took out her vanity bag from the car and locked it. Kabir started the bike and Taani sat behind him bringing a sad wave of nostalgia to Kabir. He had dreamt that years down the lane Manyata and him would be going for a ride on this bike with their children. Manyata would clutch him from behind and he would race the bike just so that she could hold him tighter.

"Hey stop stop stop!" Taani shouted literally in his ears from behind. He didn't stop. they were just a little ahead of where they had started..what now?

"maine kaha na roko...maine ek zaroori cheez car me chod di hai" Taani said.

She went running back to the car while he rolled his eyes. Women!

"aaahhh!" he heard her scream.

"kya hua? Chilla kyon rahi ho?" he was getting the feeling that the sooner he dropped off the girl, more the better.

"maine na guest house ka address apne purse me rakha tha..aur woh purse.."

"purse kya?"

"meri purse car me reh gayi aur maine keys ko andar chod kar lock kar diya..ab main kahan jaaoongi" she started howling so loudly that Kabir had to close his ears.

"Tanya..Taani..rona band karo..main help karta hoon...aaj raat mere ghar chalo..kal mechanic aayega.." Kabir said.

Her chirpy mood was back to its former self within moments.

"chalo...gaon me jhopde(hut) me, ek raat rehne me mazaa aayega..im so excited!" she clapped her hands together.

"hello..isse pehle kabhi gaon nahi aayi kya? Main ghar me rehta hoon..kisi jhopde me nahi samjhi?..aur tumne zyada baat ki toh yahi chod kar chala jaaoonga..phir tum aur tumhari woh khatara, chanda mama ke saath raat guzarna" Kabir said in anger.

"tumhara naam kya angry young man hai? Jab se mile ho gusse me ho.. Kya sach me biwi se jhagda karke aaye ho?" she prodded.

"tum ladki ho isi liye tolerate kar raha hoon..warna"

"warna kya kar lete? Haaye abla naari par atyachar karte!" she said in imaginery horror.

Kabir guessed that remaining silent was the best solution and didn't utter a word till they reached his house.

As soon as she got down she inspected the place with keen eyes and declared it the most serene place she had ever been to.

He was just going to open the house to let her in when she said something that stalled him.

"tumhare sar ke peeche chot ka nishan hai..kahin tum koi gunde mavali toh nahi..kisi se fight karke hua yeh sab? Tum shakal se achche aadmi lagte ho..tell me the truth..kyon baithe the wahan, road side pe? Taani was very serious now and he could sense it in the darkness of the porch of his house.

How dare Uday kiss a woman like that! And that too when the woman looked so better than she did.

"aap ye kya kar rahe hain? Yeh ladki wahi hai na raste wali? Aur aap mere pati ke saath is samay..kya aap ko pata nahi ab yeh shaadi shuda hain? She said to both of them and took Uday's hands in a possessive gesture, surprising herself and also him perhaps.

"Hey you, listen" Jainandini clicked her fingers and pointed it at Manyata.

"tum kya samajhti ho, just because tumne Uday se shaadi ki toh tumhara us par haq hai?..no ways sweetheart..Uday is mine..and will always be..tum toh uske liye bas time pass ho, right my love?" she said and winked at Udayveer.

He raised his hands in a hi-five and she joined his hands with hers. J began to laugh and Uday watched quietly.

Manyata couldn't stop the hot tears that were threatening to flow out. She covered her mouth and ran back to the sanctity of her room.

A heavy hand pressed her shoulders and she turned back to face the devil himself staring at her as if attempting to read her mind.

"yeh rone ka naatak chodo Manyata..Tumhe bhi pata hai aur hume bhi ki sach kya hai..hume J ke saath dekh kar tum kahin Jealous toh nahi ho gayi? Whoa..tum jal gayi..par yeh toh galat hai..

Dekho..tum agar apne former boy friend ko is tarah openly bula sakti ho, toh hum apni Ex ke saath thodi si flirting bhi nahi kar sakte?" Uday sneered at her.

"yeh aap kya bol rahe hain? Kabir mera Ex-boy friend nahi hai!"

"toh present boy friend hai? Humne dekha tha tum dono ko room me..hum tumhari baatein toh sun nahi paaye par humne apni aankhon se dekha ki Kabir humare kamre me window se andar aaya..tumne bulaya tha na use..aur yeh vase maarne ka natak kyon kiya? Hume sab pata hai Manyata..aur hum tumhe yaad dilate hain woh challenge..tumhe hum is kadar majboor karenge ki!!" he didn't bother to finish his threat.

Manyata felt disgusted in his company and went to balcony to get some fresh air. The sky was blue outside and the stars were twinkling. If the horoscopes and Kundali's were true things, then these very stars had brought this obstacle of a marriage in her life. She felt like throwing rocks at them in anger. She closed her eyes and laid her head on her knees. The weather was cold and she would freeze to bones if she lay here all night. But she didn't care.

It's a fact that confessing to a stranger is easier than to one of our own; Kabir learnt that this was indeed the truth when he narrated his tale to Taani over dinner. He told her about their childhood friendship before Manyata's marriage, how close they were to each other and a sudden storm had changed their life. He narrated her how Manyata had driven him out when he went to get her. Contrary to what he thought she didn't judge him. Instead she heard him with the air of a counselor hearing a confessor.

"Move on Kabir..thats all I can say...shayad Manyata yeh sab accept kar chuki hai..bas tum hi nahi samajh rahe" she said.

"mujhe nahi pata maine tumhe yeh sab kyon bataya..tumhe toh main jaanta tak nahi..ek din nahi hua hume mile hue..bhool jao yeh sab..kal subah mechanic aayega..gaadi theek hote hi apne guest house chali jaana" he ordered her, signifying that there would be no more discussion about him and his past.

Manyata opened her eyes to the bleating of the alarm clock and found that its 6am.

She was wrapped up in blanket and was lying on the bed..

She rummaged her mind and remembered drifting off to sleep on the balcony floor. There was a paper on the night stand which was fluttering in the wind. She opened it with curiosity and read. Uday had written part in Hindi and part in english:

"kal tumne Kabir se hume bachaya..aur hum tumhe thand (cold) se bacha rahe hain..yeh mat samajhna ki humne yeh tum par taras kha kar kiya hai..im a good business man..i don't believe in keeping dues of any kind..hisaab barabar"

So Uday had carried her inside and made her sleep on the bed. Probably, he had even set the alarm so that she would wake up on time. Though he had fiercely stated that it was only a pay back gesture, she felt her insides turn warm. How would it have felt to be carried in his arms? Aah if only she wasn't so under..

It took great deal of tries to get back her mind to normal.
