You depict Khushi being unwanted and sidelined so beautifully...
Then literally being foisted on a man who does not want her and ignored by said man turned husband. Yet Khushi has survived by adapting and making the best of a bad situation, by making her place among his family. She has every right to ignore her husband. Now he feels 'left out'. 😆

What will he do to get some attention?

Part-3

This is only because you asked, Shi. Love you babu <3

Even if one superficially observed the elder Raizada bahu, our very own Khushi Arnav Singh Raizada, they would see a happy-go-lucky woman, who could put every bad situation to shame with her never-say-die attitude, who could light up a whole dark room with her bright smile without being in an advertisement for happy dent white, someone who could bring colours in every life, smile on every face. But dear sisters, I really doubt someone ever, ever tried to look beyond that. A child who wanted to get her parents back to her, even if it meant she had to go school daily without any excuse. A teenage who in her own way had learnt to be happy about the fact that she had a roof above her head and a family who would tend to her if she fell ill. A girl who beneath her cheerful facade kept hidden a deep rooted yearning of being accepted, of being wanted. And like every adolescent girl, she had put all these hopes on her future husband, who would love her, who would cherish her, take care of her and most importantly, would find impossible to live without her.

Her marriage was fixed quite suddenly, but her nature helped her in getting accustomed to the fact pretty soon, and she gave a face to her dreams, a face which was of Arnav Singh Raizada.

On the joint engagement day of both couples, she had received the first blow to her dreams, to her hope of happy and being wanted.

Payal jiji was sitting on a royal settee alongside Akash jijaji. Her naturally bashful jiji was particularly shy that day, and by the looks of it, jijai wasn't helping much with it. Every now and then he would murmur something in her ears, and jiji was turning redder with each whisper, trying to glare but failing miserably.

Khushi couldn't stop the giggle which escaped her lips on watching that particular scene, which suddenly attracted the attention of a few aunties to her.

"Aree khussiee bitiya!! Tumhare dulhe raja kahan gaye?? Itni jaldi akela chhod gaye apni dulhaniya ko?? " followed by sniggering.

"Are nahin auntyji, wo chhote ko ek zaroori call attend karna tha isliye bahar tak gaye hain, abhi aate hi honge.Par aap khadi kyun hai, aur aapki plate bhi khaali hai. Waiter, wo paneer wali dish layiye yahan, kya karte hain aap, ye sab khaas mehmaan hain inka khayal rakhiye. Auntyji aap refreshment lijiye main bas abhi aayi." The ever cool and graceful Anjali had very tactfully handled the absence of her chhote that evening, right after the engagement. And her kind and a bit apologetic smile had done nothing to lift the huge boulder which had settled in khushi's chest.

This feeling had continued and grown stronger with each rasam, and finally when after 2 days of marriage her husband had told the family, and she had got the info along with them only, that he was going abroad for indefinite time period, Khushi had finally lost hope. Hope of a loving and caring and besotted husband. Hope of being cherished and wanted.

But our heroine had another big quality, resourcefulness.

Some people will find this term crude in context to what I am going to refer, but dear forum waasiyo, this is the acute word which can define the situation. After a few days of crying in corners and hiding her tears behind her smile, Khushi decided that enough was enough. That she will look towards the bright side of the picture. Since forever had she wanted a big family- saas, sasur, nanad, devar, devrani and every other relation she could imagine. She of all people knew what a family meant, for she had lost her own once. Hadn't this been the first reason she had been grateful to gupta family for every little crumb of affection they threw her way. But this time, these people actually loved her. She might not be old enough to be called mature, but she had enough understanding and love in her heart and eyes to recognize the same in others. So instead of lamenting over the loss of something which hadn't been hers to begin with, she focused on getting and giving love to every other relation she had got as a bonus package. And love she got, in truckloads and tons. She felt that Raizada household was indeed waiting for her only, ki kab khushi aaye aur wo use pyaar ke samandar mein dubo dalein.

Naniji , after performing aarti would first look for her khushi bitiya so that she could give her aarti before everyone else. She would very lovingly caress her hair when Khushi bended every morning to touch her feet, with a warm and loving "Jeeti Rahiye, yunhi khush rahiye aur sabko khush rakhiye".

Anjali ji...sorry, Di had taken upon herself to teach the little Mrs. ASR every rule of the society they ruled. She would take her shopping, introduce her to people, take her to parties, everthing...but never ever she let Khushi feel that she was a misfit in their society. Instead she always encouraged Khushi to know the basics of everything and then give her own unique touch , for her creativity was "refreshing", as di had once mentioned in front of some guests while praising her new Bhabhis.

Mamaji was a walking talking encyclopedia. Kabhi bhi kuch bhi pooch lo, jawab haazir. Mamiji had shown quite a disliking towards her and jiji in initial days, but with passing time, she could read the protectiveness and love for the family, underneath the layers of makeup. And gradually, she had made herself a part of the family, automatically putting her at the receiving end of her curt affection.

Not that Payal jiji ignored her or something, but she and Akash jijaji were too busy in themselves, first going for honeymoon, and then spending most of their time with each other only-candle light dinners, late night drives and walks and the whole "romance package". Khushi was happy that her jiji was happy, and she was even happier that she was getting the love of a family, a family which truly considered her as one of their own. She was happy with the life she had built for herself. Now she will live happily ever after. Only, she had forgotten a very tiny detail.

She had a husband.

A husband who re-entered her life after she had spent blissful 3 weeks with her new family, like villains who re-enter after the commercial break.

Now how to deal with this quite big problem?, her brain murmured.

Simple, ignore him; her heart always gave the best and practical solutions.

WHAT!!!Are you mad or something??? You will ignore your pati parmeshwar. Your ardh nareeshwar. You are his ardhangini. Your farz is to fulfill all wifely duties. You have taken and given wachan in front of the holy pyre. Her brain was not having any of it.

Exactly, TAKEN and given, not just given. Aur babuji ne sikhaya tha na, ki agar saamne wala apni baat poori na kare, to sauda khatam ho jata hai. As usual, her dil was always right.

Means????? Shaadi Khatam?? Brainji was scared.

Nahin re buddhu. Shaadi nai khatam, sirf wachan khatam. You don't have to love him, you don't have to care for him and you certainly don't have to bear his children. Just take him as another family member. Take care of his needs as you would do for anyone else. And keep living your life. He has his own, and he is definitely not going to miss being in yours, Dil ji gave the final verdict.

So for the next few weeks, the household saw khushi as happy and chirpy as ever. Her routine never wavered. She would look after the meals everyone had, and by everyone I mean everyone. 2 lunchboxes were sent to AR office every noon, the evening tea was served with traditional gusto and dinners were like always sumptuous. Every member was afraid that arrival of Arnav might bring down Khushi's khushi, for they had sensed that he wasn't going to make things easy. But nothing of that sort happened. The post-dinner crochet lessons, evening sessions with Naniji, chatting with Laxmiji, everything kept happening as if they were always a part of Raizada mension's daily rituals. The inhabitants of Shantivan were confused, why wasn't the showdown taking place?? They wanted to get over with it.

On the other side, the man in question was himself very much confused. Why wasn't anyone asking him questions? Why wasn't he pestered anymore to give attention to his family? Why wasn't anyone being angry with him for leaving for a month, that too just after his marriage? "Anyways, good riddance!" had been his initial thought, but he couldn't help himself in not feeling a bit bad.

The lunch box routine was another thing which caught his attention. Prior to marriage, his di used to prepare tiffin, send it to him and would call him constantly, first to tell him to eat, then to ask him whether he has eaten and then to remind him for medicine. But these days nothing of that sort happened. While previously those calls used to irritate him no end, these days he was silently being jealous of Akash. These days, two big tiffins arrived every day, one with a chit of paper on the top (which never failed to bring smile on Akash's face), while the other one never had to carry that extra weight. Then one of the cellphones would ring right at the end of lunch hour with Akash smilingly going to balcony, whispering "Aaj khana bada teekha banaya Payal ji.." while the owner of other tiffin didn't get the privilege these days. Even the taste of food was different, and again he couldn't help himself but accept, really mouth-watering. He would wonder, did his wife prepare his lunch?? But he couldn't ask anyone, pity.

Even in his room he never saw any major differences. When he returned home after his tour he had expected a vanity table cramped with cosmetics, bathroom shelves loaded with body and hair care products, wardrobe lined with colorful saaris and dresses and what not. Only he had received a jhatka to find maximum things of his room untouched. Only a pillow on recliner, a single shelf of his wardrobe occupied with a few saaris , a sindoor box, a comb and a kajal pencil in front of mirror. That's it!! He was really really surprised for a moment, then shrugged his shoulders and went with his routine.

Gradually he started observing more changes. Naani's interest in his work, ordering a sari from his collection for Khushi, Di's chirpiness, unraveling of Mamaji's hidden wisdom, and amongst all this the one person, who was responsible for all these changes was not making any effort to make him a part of all this. Heck, she never even tried to draw his attention towards herself. All she did was rising before him and coming to sleep after he slept, and slept on the recliner. She never asked for anything, never demanded anything, heck she barely spoke a sentence or two to him during whole day. Sentences like "Khana lag gaya hai , di aapko bula rahi hain" or "Jijaji has asked you to come to study room for some discussion". THAT'S ALL WHAT HIS MARRIED LIFE WAS!!! But wait! Wasn't he the one, who vehementaly tried to stop himself from getting bound in this thing called marriage. He had actually voluntarily taken the foreign trip so as to get away from all this. He had come back with a resolve that if his wife will try to take over his life, he would put her at her place in his own style. He had decided that she wasn't worthy of his time and attention. He had thought he would tell that to her the first chance he will get. He had no intentions of spending his life with that woman. He would tell her to mind her own business, be at home, twiddle her thumbs or go back to her parent's home. He would continue living his life as he wanted.

Afsos, yahan koi unka intezaar kar hi nahin raha tha!!! The woman in question was least bothered in making a place in his life, but had instead made a life for herself, in which he was nowhere featured. Arnav never found the chance to tell her that he didn't care for her, because he was too shocked to realize that she herself didn't care for him. She was happy without him. This was not going as he had planned.

. Confusion.Surprise. Realization. Frustration. Anger.

And finally after 3 months of marriage, the volcano erupted.

Note: I accept defeat. More than 2000 words and still the story is nowhere near completion. I have to make it an SS. You guys win, hands down.

Please send me buddy request if you want pm's for updates. Finding every comment and then sending message to the owner is a bit, tiring.

My eyes are red since yesterday and to top that, I have to clear a computer exam in next few days, so I cant even rest my eyes🤢. unres!
Lo agayi Shikha!🤓
Can I just say I LOVE YOU TOOO to begin with?🤗 Thank you... Muahh!
And what a beautiful update yaar! The way you portrayed Arnav and Khushi's reactions... I could almost put myself in their shoes! I'm very happy that Khushi kept strong and made her life of her own, but I'm not going to blame Arnav either, because he had also been tied in an unwanted marriage and he did not know Khushi at all... And usually we have the instinct of flight that is stronger in 'fight or flight' situations which he followed. He's just a human being after all. And I loved the way he was totally surprised by Khushi's aloofness. I can't say about the romance, but it clearly looks like Arnav and Khushi, in your story, are going to have this zabardast emotional connection in the future!😛
Hayye! I just love you yaar!🤗
