Yeah, Saathi Re (Star One at 9.00 p.m.) has a far better story line than the current trash they are dishing out in KS. It may not have high TRPs but definitely it is much more watchable. For those interested here is a gist of what has happened in SR so far.
The story revolves around Suman who is a simple and loving girl - a little indecisive though. She has a sister Chaitali who supports her in everything. Suman falls in love with Prem. She is too scared to reveal this to her parents, particularly her father who is very strict. A chance meeting with the family of the Rawals in a holy place leads her family being invited to attend the wedding of the Rawal's daughter. During their visit, Rajiv who is the son of the eldest Rawal, falls for Suman. Now Rajiv is a large hearted, loving character (Aamir Dalvi who plays the role is really very cute). Suman's marriage is fixed up with Rajiv and Suman does not have the courage to break the truth. The few occasions she tries to tell Rajiv about Prem, circumstance don't allow her to.
On the wedding day Suman tries to run away from the mandap when she overhears a rishi tell her mother that due to some problem in her horoscope, whoever Suman marries will die in 6 months. Suman is too dazed to react and ends up marrying Rajiv.
Prem who had gone to the U.S. for higher studies returns to India on hearing about Suman's impending marriage, but is too late to stop the wedding. Suman and Prem meet on her wedding night when Suman begs Prem to take her with him. But when Prem comes to know of her horoscope he asks her to stay married to Rajiv so that after his death in 6 months they can get married and live together all their life. Suman unwillingly accepts.
She tells Rajiv that they cannot consummate their marriage for a year since she has taken a vow in front of the diety that enabled them to meet. Rajiv being the sweet character accepts this and asks her to be his friend till then.(There are some very cure scenes between Suman and Rajiv)
Prem in the meanwhile in consumed by jealousy wondering about Suman's integrity. He returns back to U.S. but keeps pestering her through calls and letters. Suman is slowly seeing his true character and contrasting it with Rajiv's considerate, loving nature.
The Rawals are a big joint family of three brothers, their wifes and their children. One of the daugher-in-law, Shalaka, dislikes Suman since her sister could not get married to Rajiv. She never misses an opportunity to put her down and is out to find out the truth about Suman. Prakar, the son of the Rawals' sister who has been estranged since she married outside her community enters the family with his mother. He pretends to be a goody guy but is out to take revenge by splitting up the family. After the death of Suman's father, her mother and sister, Chaitali also come to stay with the Rawals at the insistence of Rajiv. Love is slowly booming between Chaitali and Aadesh, Rajiv's cousin.
This is where the story is right now.
The serial may not have great names or power house performances but is immensely watchable and the story is definitely more believable than the current KS track.
So viewers here's an alternative you can consider. Oh, by the way I have nothing to gain in advocating SR which I starter watching only recently and that too out of sheer boredom with KS.
