I dont have any issues with Daya Mai's potrayal in the show and there are various reasons to it.
1- Do dil ek jaan is strictly the story of Raghu and Antara so all the characters shown influence Rantara in one way or the other.They Cant carry a story of their own as that would take away from the plot itself.
2-Do dil ek jaan is essentially a LOVE STORY so the writers have to somehow stick to it and Cant show too much of Daya Mai's individual activities which donot affect the love story or concern Rantara.
3-Daya Mai's character has been shown of highest regard in basti.Her one Word is enough.As she says in one of the scenes "JO KEHENA THA WOH KEH DIYA AUR JO KEHA HAI WOHI HOGA".
4-Daya Mai understands Manohar and Rasika's mentality but she is not worried about them as they fear her alot and are harmless.Raghu on other hand is fearless.She wants to remain his god as he is a powerfull follower.Antara has hurt DM's ego and so now whatever she'll do will be wrong in Daya Mai's Eyes.I like Shilpa Shinde because of her subtle acting unlike usual tv negative characters.There is something very mysterious and scary about her.
5- Be patient Guys!! the track has just begun...give the character time to evolve and come out completely in light.
