awww! Don't apologize, you're allowed to feel differently. 😆 It's an Oscar-worthy movie and a lot of people are divided on Aishu's performance. Time Magazine film cirtics hated her a lot in BP and Guru, but the late Roger Ebert loves her to death. He even tweeted once that she mesmerizes him. He didn't like Provoked b/c he held her acting was too "BW" as in over-emotive than it should be. But it was still a strong performance. She still got a debut award for it at some critics award despite the divide, but like I said it depends on the person.

You need to watch all the recent adaptations. You can find them on YT, but if you're a die-hard fan (like I am) you'll love them a lot. Emma (2010), Persuaion and NA (2007) are REALLY good.

And if you like BBC dramas then check out North and South and Jane Erye and Little Dorrit.

Heyya thanks a lot for the suggestions!! I am a super duper uper fan😆 myself. But , I am a little reserved when it comes to watching her adaptations on screeen, ye know with all the images I build in my head of all the characters and then they not matching of what I dreamt is a BIGG downer for me That's the only reason I havent watched her most famous adaptation where Colin Firth is Darcy till now. I know everyone just loves Firth as Darcy, but am not sure I will too. Just absolutely no one fits in my eyes and not only Darcy but Lizzy too. Oh I love her to death and just cannot bring myself to accept any on screen portrayals of her.

Hmm Interestingly I have really liked Aish's performance in Provoked. I would rate it so much above the B&P one anyday!
And funnily enough my fav adaptation of any JA novel has to be AISHA till now. Maybe its because I enjoyed the movie so much keeping in mind that this was a bollywood adaptation. Also I am more of a Sonam Kapoor fan than Emma Woodhouse, that also made things easier for me. But in anycase I really loved the movie.

@WhiteNights: Sorry girl but I just realized I wrote it's an oscar-worthy performance when I really meant to write it's NOT. 😆 I guess I was uber tired.

aww hetal u didn't like tht rain scene in the 2005 PnP...
I dunt like matthew Mcfayden either but I liked the scene in the movie...the location, the mood...it captures the tension of the scene well...if only I could plonk matthew out of it and put firth in...😆
Im not exactly a purist when it comes to jane austen,...just as long as they dunt destroy the plot or characters...im fine with minor changes like that...

^Nah babe. I didn't really like it. I guess Colin's Darcy had way more intensity in him than Matthew's so that could be the reason. But when I read it, I knew the characters clearly had A LOT of sexual tension b/w them (in a subtle Victorian british way but it was there 😆) and matthew's proclaimation wasn't how I thought it should be. I don't know, even Colin Firth in Bridget Jones Diaries was way better as Darcy than Matthew...I'm clearly bias.

But no I agree with your last sentece...like Clueless and Bridget Jones Diaries and Lost in Austen are some of my favorite loosely adapted versions.
