Tap.. Tap..
Aap kabhi galath nahi ho sakthe
You can never be wrong
is ghar ke niyam
The rules of this house
Nahi dekha usne apne baba ki baath maan li
didn't you see how she obeyed her father?
Shaadi di ke baad, use sikane ke liye aap to hai na
You are there to teach her (manners) after her wedding
Mera yahan dambh ghutha hai
I feel stifled in this house
Ahhh... that lunch at the Agnihotri mansion.. spoke volumes...We were all coming to the conclusion of Anjali as the controlling factor.. but the dark menacing shadow creeping over the Bright White Mansion is actually someone else...
Control of one son by disdain & contempt
Control of another by expectation of absolute love
Control of wife via fear
Control of daughter-in-law by not even acknowledging her presence..
... unless I miss my guess.. this is more Rebecca or Wuthering Heights than Pride & Prejudice...
the romance at this point.. is a non-factor... and I hope they stick to it... the darkness that instinctively troubles both Astha & her father.. should be the current focus of the story...
But will the audience stick with it???
This is no Saas-bahu... the TRP aunties (my mom for ex.) is already not liking this darkness..
This is no M&B romance... will the tween.. teen.. early twenties even understand the dark complexity??
Will wait & watch...

Initially I laughed.. and showed my hubby the scene joking don't you wish you can do that & his response of "that is one dangerous man" started making me think a little more into this aspect...
Yes, it shows the most dangerous of man.. a calm, collected yet with the ability to control all & everyone around him without any remorse.. a subhuman being... this character played very well by the actor.. the control is coming across fantastically...

My gut instinct, of course it is early days yet.. is that she has been brain washed by a controlling husband that she is almost robotic.. and now she is the one who is in charge of brain washing the DIL... BTW... if this is the case.. then the actress is portraying it perfectly... the contrast of the dysfunctional marriage between Shlokh's parents is in stark contrast to Astha's parents marriage of mutual respect & regard..

Niranjan is a military type of person...he has that calm and diciplined face that can make one mistaken him for a good guy...After this refusal dark times awaits for ashta and her familly,. but her father is one interesting char too..he actually taken a risk in protecting his child,. nd am sure hes prepared what it comes...his thoughtfull expressions promise that..
There isnt much darkness in Shlok, he isnt what he wants to show..there are many contradictions in his behaviour! The story and concept gives us many times food for thoughts..i think it will do good as every char is well skeched by the writers..
The books u mentioned,. i m familiar with last two...only the male leads are in a way similar with Shlok...

Hmm, one question, whats age got to do in dealing with the story?! its only abt ones power of understanding and processing of the infos every epi provides..

Myra.. yes it is Shlok that needs to be properly fleshed out.. the difference with the 2 genre of books is that in Rebecca & Wutherheights there is an underlying mystery below the surface of normalcy whereas in P&P it is about more straightforward differences in the 2 types of personality...
The draw of Ashtha to Shlokh's dad was the obedience to her dad... unfortunately he doesn't realize that it is because of love and respect for her dad and not fear as in Agnihotri household...
I too loved that Astha's father putting her welfare first... I think he suspects the darkness in Niranjan.. and he knows that the refusal might have recurpression on his job...
As for the age groups.. I apologize.. it was a very generic assumption on my part.. yes it is about the audience regardless of age group understanding the underlying nuances of the story.. if one is looking forward to a straightforward love story, I don't think this is it.. if one is looking for Saas berating Bahu.. this isn't it.. so far.. and I hope they keep it so...

Today watched the whole one week in one go . Agree with Aviation with your point of view about Niranjan , i think Misti has already said the same about Niranjan . He is in control but living together for so many years with Niranjan kind of person either you give in or rebel . Anjali is just following him without contradicting him . When in the room she gave her opinion about Astha not liking her for Shalok, but after Niranjan,s reasoning she just kept quite but her expressions were telling something else the way she dropped the hanger . This is the first time saw this tapping thing on the dining table .
But i find Shalok is soft also when he hugs her niece or is with her brother .His agony when he opens the study . Father is manipulative and as you said , he has turned Anjali what he wants where he is just smiling and Angali taking all the burnt . you never know whatever happened in Shalok,s life , it might be his father indirectly .
As i have seen , i just feel its because of girl , he became bitter and not trusting women as was shown in flashback , he also torn some card threw in the fire and then the picture with bitter expressions. if you love or care for some one you will not throw that person,s picture in the fire . may be betrayed ,as he tries to runaway from the laughter , screams in the flash back
Story is good , can be strong as it has all the seasoned actors . Avinash excels when he has to potray his inner turmoil , not saying a word , his inner suppressed pain . I always liked him in sarcastic , emotional scenes .
