The actress talks about Saif, Ranbir-Katrina, and pairing up with Hrithik after a decade
Has life changed after marriage?
This life changes after marriage is a myth. Look, Saif and I were together even before we got married. I was in a live-in relationship with him. Marriage was something I needed to strengthen the bond. Moreover, Saif is my best friend too. He understands me perfectly. We were in love, we are in love, and we shall remain in love. Inshallah.
But arent people at their best when theyre dating?
(Laughs) As of now, I haven't experienced the worst. I am still experiencing the best.
You have decided that you shall not dance at weddings anymore
Yes. Saif and my father (Randhir) were not comfortable with the idea. Also, there is no need for me to dance at weddings. Life is not just about money.
Your father had a few health scares. How is he now?
Heart problems and diabetes run in our family. He is now on a strict diet and has to go for long walks. And I'm sure he has reduced his alcohol.
What are you doing in a male-dominated film like Satyagraha?
I am the conscience of the film. Five men start a revolution and I put that revolution together. I become their voice. To cut a long story short, I play a journalist. Its a very performance-oriented role. Song-and-dance roles are much easier. But I never find it difficult to slip into the characters I play.
With Deepika, Priyanka, Anushka, Sonakshi and Parineeti breathing down your neck, has life in Bollywood become a bit difficult for you?
Why only my neck? They are breathing down everyone's neck. 😆 Talent always speaks. Whosoever is gifted, will stay. Everyone likes to see young girls dancing around trees.
Let me ask this straight. Are offers as many as before?
I am not going to do a two-scene-two-song film anymore. I am taking up projects that really interest methe ones I really want to do. I wanted to work with Emraan Hashmi and I doing a Balaji film with him. I think there is something very raw about him and the chemistry between us will be great. Ekta thought I was perfect for the role. Although, the producers contacted Deepika for the role, but they eventually came back to me. Again, I wanted to work with Hrithik Roshan and I am doing a Karan Johar film with him (Shuddhi).
What? You wanted to work with Hrithik?
Yeah. He is an actor and that too one of the best in the country. Our pair has been appreciated in the past. Why shouldnt we work together? Its just that I never got a chance to do any film with him for quite some time. KJo came up with a lovely script and I immediately said yes.
Did you take Saifs permission?
I dont have to ask Saif anything, more so, if it is about my career. As a rule, I don't ask him who he works with, what films he is doing (pauses). We dont discuss Bollywood at home, not even on the dinner table.
Recently, some pictures of a bikini-clad Katrina Kaif have come out with your cousin Ranbir Kapoor. What are your views on paparazzi journalism?
Holidays are a private affair. Also, if you are on the beach, what else will you wear if not a bikini? But at the same time, it is difficult to give the paparazzi a slip. Moreover, they are just doing their job.
Have you ever faced any such incident?
I am sure I have. But it is ok. I cant really do anything about it. Sometimes we know we are getting clicked, but Saif plays it real cool. His chilled out behaviour has rubbed off on me, in more ways than one (laughs).
Did you think that Ranbir would become a star so soon?
Who else if not Ranbir? Acting, performance and success runs in Kapoor genes. He truly deserves it.
