There is a popular perception that the wife of Akbar, mother of Jahangir, was known as "Jodha Bai".

Her name as in Mughal chronicles was Mariam-uz-Zamani. This is why the mosque of Mariyam Zamani Begum was constructed in The Walled City Of Lahore, present day Pakistan, by her son Jahangir. Tuzk-e-Jahangiri, the autobiography of Jahangir, doesn't mention Jodha Bai. Therein, she is referred to as Mariam Zamani. Neither the Akbarnama (a biography of Akbar commissioned by Akbar himself), nor any historical text from the period refer to her as Jodha Bai.

According to Professor Shirin Moosvi, a historian of Aligarh Muslim University, the name "Jodha Bai" was first used to refer to Akbar's wife in the 18th and 19th centuries in historical writings. According to the historian Imtiaz Ahmad, the director of the Khuda Baksh Oriental Public Library in Patna, by Lieutenant-Colonel James Tod, in his book Annals and Antiquities of Rajasthan.

According to Professor N R Farooqi, a historian of Allahabad Central University, Jodha Bai was not the name of Akbar's queen; it was the name of Jahangir's wife Taj Bibi Bilquis Makana the Princess of Jodhpur, whose real name was Jagat Gosain.

Marium uz zamani sounds like a title more than a name. She must have had a more commonly used name which might have been concealed for a reason. Was a dominating woman the issue or religion who knows? But sounds like Mughal kings gave a lot of importance to their wives. She has a mosque. Mumtaz has a Taj Mahal. Wow! Wonder what Noor Jahan has?
History is what is documented. Things not documented never happened.😉 Who really knows what happened behind closed doors. Who ever wrote Akbar nama was definitely not inside their room. Was he?😳 I am sure husband and wife will have their own different views of their life too. The movie version had a another version of the story. I like both versions.
who really cares. We are here to see RAJAT and Paridhi and the beautiful bath tub with rose petals. Even if they rename the show with the their real names we will see it.

You are right. Mariam uz-Zamani was a title given to Harka Bai/jodha Bai/Hira Kumari after her marriage to Akbar. It means Mary of the Age. I had read somewhere Maryam is an important title for women in Mughal Courts, glorifying their chastity. Titles meaning Like Mary, Stature of Mary or belonging to Household of Mary were often given to influential women of the haram. I have read, in Akbar's life, there was two Mariams, one his mother, Hameeda Banu begum, who was given the title of Maryam Makani, meaning Equal in rank to Mary or dwelling with Mary, posthumously, as she was considered, 'epitome of innocence' by Akbar and other one is his third and first hindu wife, princess of Amer. In my opinion, title proves that she has some influence in Akbar's life.

Well, this is by far the most believable extract I have come across that makes Jodha, Jalal's daughter in law, @red

Although, the truth will forever remain a mystery😆😆

Marium Uz Zamani, was definitely Jalal's wife, and he gave her that name, to in a way show her commitment to him (one could argue) or his respect to her (as was the case back in the day) Hira Bai, the Rajput princess! I was reading a book that was written by Abdul, and overlooked by Jalal himself, (a manuscript of it to be precise, is what i read) and in there, Akbar's wife was known as the Rajput princess, and it also goes on to say Jalal married various other Rajput princesses!

Truth will remain a mystery, especially with so many scholars ruining it for us, with their own perspective! Thanks for sharing!
