Raksha Bandhan

The relation of a brother and a sister is very deep. Elder or younger, a brother (perhaps its in the DNA of being a brother) always protects his sister. There is almost a propriety right attached with this relation that no other man can avail. Not even boyfriends or husbands or fathers. They are the best friends and yes fighting with them is birth right (especially physically). While a girl maintains decorum with every other man, a brother gets to see the best and the worst side of her. And a friend recently said, when embarking on a relationship, one must put one's worst foot forward not best and that way a relationship will never see the loss of expectation.

For a brother and sister, that never happens unlike a boyfriend or a husband for they have seen you since your birth or theirs, seen you throw tantrums, unwaxed legs, no make up and of course make the first meal in the house to grow into a woman who is calm, sensible, authoritative even and can handle every situation. They have seen you not being able to finish your homework, to scraped knees, untied laces and of course, hair all askew and so they don't judge you for what you look like but what you are to them, a sister.

A brother is a bond every sister can depend on. An ad comes to mind (but then lot of ad comes to this writer!). Ye Fevicol ka joad hai.

Of course, all brother-sister relations are not blemish free, like every relation, it is an invisible thread, that could get knotted or broken. However, working on this relation or for that matter any is something one can either choose to do or not to do.

Today, on Rakshabandhan, we urge you strengthen that bond, smoothen the thread (yeah with sweets, gifts and what not, bribery works ) and lot of love.

Tell us how you celebrated this day. And yes it is today. We got this confirmation from Indian Express article that has this quote, "The celebration of the Raksha Bandhan depends on the moon. It is supposed to be celebrated during the hours of the full moon and the timings for the full moon tomorrow starts around 10.30 pm and would end the next day at 7.15 am. Since 7.15 am will be too early, the celebration is on August 20, because, technically, after the completion of the full moon on August 21, the celebration will be considered inauspicious. Therefore, auspicious events like tying rakhi should be avoided after that time."
